How you can stimulate the economy...

Nope. Just saying that you rained on his parade. Ignorant or not you have your fact based opinion he has his.

In my opinion safe or not your Jaguar Vanden Plas is ugly and overpriced.

...What are these politicians talking about when they say GM isn't producing cars we want to buy? ....It just puzzles me what the media does to this country!!

The Malibu is a very competitive car in that market segment in my opinion. Also, have they driven a Cadillac CTS lately ? that car is awesome....

The 2009 Pontiac Vibe is on our shopping list to replace the admiral's Mazda Protege 5 next year.

"they driven a Cadillac CTS lately"

This from what I hear is their best seller now.

How in the hell does a politician know what we as Americans want to drive or choose what boat we want.

The point is, they don't care what you and I and Gary and Frank and Kurt and Frank and Mike and Alex want. They want to give us whatever gives them power over our lives.

Awful choice in my opinion. Using real-world insurance payment results, IIHS calculates that the 2005-2007 Malibu (no data on later models, but they have not been substantially redesigned since) have rating of 132 for personal injury protection payments, 155 for medical payments, and 117 for bodily injury liability payments. Based on the rating of 100 being average, 132 an 155 are considered substantially worse than average. 117 squeaks out an average rating.

Frank.........the 2008 Malibu is a brand new car. It's not even built on the same platform as the 2005-2007 models were. It truly is competive in every way with Accord, Camry, etc. Look at one and tell me if you don't agree. I have no idea how the IIHS will look at it though.

Oops! Didn't know that. IIHS takes about 2 years to report on a new model. They do perform crash testing immediately, but they group the crash test vehicles in classes by weight. Thus, a 3,000 pound vehicle and a 4,000 pound vehicle with the same rating do not have the same safety profile. They do mention that on their web site. I believe that they use 500 pound groupings having found that a 500 pound weight difference between vehicles is significant from a crash protection stand. The crash tests of the 2004-2007 and the 2008-2009 models both rate Good for front and side impacts when equipped with side airbags.

About ten years ago, there was a government sponsored study of air bags. The study concluded that air bags saved lives and reduced injury... at about the same rate as simply moving up to a vehicle 500 pounds heavier that did not have air bag. The government spiked the study. I can't find a copy of it anywhere on the net.

My opinions are based upon data analysis. What are your based on? You sound like the idiots on the boat/us web forum who say Sea Rays are ugly and overpriced. Coincidentally, they usually are owners of lesser brands.

Frank

I wuv you Frank, but you couldnt pay me to drive a Jag :)

Or a Malibu for that matter :) Then again, I have an Xterra, and many people think THAT thing is ugly lol

The opening comment says it all......140K miles and the tranny is slipping.

In Septemeber 2007, when the newly designed 2008 CTS came out, the admiral and I went to go for a test ride with the intention to buy one. We had a 2004 STS that we were trading in. The CTS was 'W-A-Y' too small inside. With the front seats set back 3/4 on their rails, I could barely sit in the rear seat and my knees were banging the seat in front of me. The car handled great and was full of pep with the tweaked up Direct Injection 304 HP 3.6L motor. BTW, I think the new Malibu uses a slightly detuned version of the same motor. Anyway, we ended up with a new 2008 STS....same peppy motor with a little more room.

Frank, Simply stated i don't like new era Jaguars. To your credit at least you didn't buy one of the supped up ford contour Jaguars. That is my opinion. Not fact based. You stated your opinion this is mine. If i'm an Idiot than so be it.

Just so were clear I drive a 3/4 ton Chevy with a Duramax Diesel. My tank is vastly superior than your ugly Jaguar when it comes to safety.

Back on topic,
Brian Congrats on the new car. Looks good. More refined than you are used ot seeing chevys

I have never owned a full size pickup - I have had a Tahoe & a Suburban

But I'm going to get one before summer (to pull my boat) can't keep begging folks to help me out

I want a 4 door crew cab & 4X4 - Mrs Fetch has even said she would drive it during the week (Bless her heart)- she just goes back & forth to work, while I drive all over - so we will trade her tired Buick - so as nice a pickup & I can afford is in the making

I'll keep driving my Montana mini van that gets 25 mpg

I am just waiting for the deals to get as sweet as possible

I've looked at the big three & Toyota - I actually so far like the ford best

If my '00 V8 4wd Tundra AccessCab with 130,000+ miles ever starts to give me problems, I'll probably trade it in for a DblCab Gen 2 Tundra. Their reliability and depreciation aren't matched by the big 3 trucks. I have to say though, if you're going for towing more than 10,000 lbs, you might want to look at the Ford F250/350 in diesel mode maybe. Now's a good time to buy too! The only thing I don't like about the crew cabs, is you lose your box length, and it's a monster to drive around for other things. The turn radius on the newer Gen. of Tundra is smaller than mine however, which is nice.

Love those new Tundras! Rode in a new GMC Sierra 1500 last week that was very nicely appointed as well. I like what they have done with them.

I was about to chime in, but Dave covered it for me. Did I mention I bought it for $22,000. With this economy, I needed to stay very conservative.

You don't have to lose box length. The long box is available if you want it with a crewcab..
