How you can stimulate the economy...

Best car I ever owned was a Ford S60 2.4 Turbo:grin:.

That's a Volvo for the uniformed.

Second best was a 1998 Nissan Maxima SE.

We now have two Hondas. My wife's Odyssey just passed 100K miles with nothing but routine maintenance. I have 60K on my Pilot that has never been in the shop - no warranty work at all - just oil changes and tires. Hard to argue with that kind of reliability. I will buy American next, if the Hondas ever wear out...

Good luck with that.... We used to have an Accord for something like 11 years and I gave it away because I was tired of looking at it and it would never break... pain in the ass.

My wife had a 2002 Odyssey. The trans failed at 65,000 miles. I learned that they had a high failure rate with the transmissions in the 2002/2003 vans. Honda put a new one in at no cost (good will). If I had to pay for it, it would have cost $3200. So even Honda's break.

We sold it and bought a 2008.

I had a 1987 Honda CRX-Si and the windshield motor stopped working when I had 102,000 miles on it... Honda replaced it at no charge... damn Hondas... piece of crap.

Oh yeah... I had an 1999 Acura TL... the tires wore out with 40K miles... Honda didn't stand behind that one...

Wait... most of my Hondas were made in Ohio... is that not the US? I think my "American" truck was made in Mexico...

My Japanese truck was made in the USA.

Nice malibu, I also like the new caprice. Either one would be on my short list if I was in the market for a car but instead I should be in the market for a mini van having a one year old.

The Honda Odyssey van is made in Lincoln, Alabama. They are great vehicles, if you want or need a van.

The only foreign car I ever owned was a 1968 VW square back. Spent just about every weekend under that damn thing to keep it running. All the rest were Ford, Chrysler, GM except for a two year Kawasaki stint I had.

I've had pretty much the same experience but with GM cars. Stopped buying them in 1985. Since then it has been a new Acura every two years. Having said that Acura sold me a lemon about 4 cars ago. After complaining for 18 months they gave me a brand new one at no charge when the lemon had 44,000 miles on it. Current TL S Type has been flawless and will get broomed out in about 5 or 6 months. I'll get another TL. They hold their value as well.

My wife does the same thing with Audi's which are supposed to be high maintenance. She is on her 5th TT roaderster and has yet to have any service other than oil changes. My only beef with Audi is they are expensive to own and the difference at trade time is always a little higher than I believe it should be. Still, these are fun cars to drive.

Sad to say, but I have not owned an American car since I was 20. that was 34 years ago.

I've owned mostly American cars all my life starting with a 1957 Chevy. For the most part they have always been dependable and it has always made me feel good that I was keeping the profit in the good old USA.

I am also old enough to remember when the only imports were the likes of Volkswagons, Fiats, Peugots, Renaults, etc. and a bevy of undependable British cars. When Japanese cars first arrived here they were pure junk. I agree that the import manufacturers today make some pretty nice cars but I can always find an Amercian car that I like just as well. I have owned a whole string of Musclecars and Corvettes. The only imports I have owned were two MGAs (ughhhhhh...........fun........but only when they ran), a Dodge Colt (Mitsubishi......and a real piece of junk), and a Nissan pickup which was a very nice truck. Everything else has been American..............and that works for me.

Thats when life was simple and gas was 19 cents a gallon for the good stuff.

We're doing lists, now?

1968 Chrysler Newport formerly my dad's, he gave it to me when I got my license. Ran it for years, then my brother ran it and gave it away @ about 140,000 miles Engine and trans strong and original
1972 Dodge Challenger RT (used) 340/4bbl Wish I still had her.
1972 Imperial LeBaron (used) Wish I still had that one too. But the body was too rusted @ 180,000 miles so it went. Engine (nice 440/4bbl) and trans were original and strong.
1983 Imperial (new) Half assed EFI system but nice style for the 1980s.
1978 Chrysler LeBaron (used) bought it as a beater. Beat on it until 185,000 miles when the trans let go. Had a rebuilt put in, but the rebuilt was worse than the original. Went to court. Junked the car after the case was resolved.
1990 Lincoln Town Car (new) 215,000 miles. Never needed anything other than normal maintenance. Traded to the dealer who sold it to a limo company that put another 150,000 on her.
1994 Lincoln Mark VIII (new; wife's lease)
1996 Lincoln Mark VIII (new; wife's lease)
1998 Lincoln Mark VIII (new; wife's) Now mine.
1999 Lincoln Navigator (used) Bought from someone who didn't like it after they had it for 6 months. Thanks for taking the depreciation hit for me! Currently around 294,000.
2005 Jaguar Vanden Plas (new; wife's)
1976 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham (new - passed down) Formerly my dad's car. He gave it to me when he didn't want it anymore. I couldn't let him get rid of an authentic RB block!

Note: Not a 4 banger or 6 popper in the list!

Best regards,
Frank
Blue indicates still in my possession.

The only V-8's I've ever owned are my Dodge Truck (5.7L) and my Mercedes S500 (my current "car")... I actually don't really know what's under the hood of the S500... It just weighs a lot and hauls ass... 0-60 is pretty good... and it'll cruise at 100 mph better than any car I've ever been in...

Heck.. my boat even has 6 cyl engines...

Frank seems to like his Mopar stuff... My "Scamp" really turned me off to that...

you guys buy way too many cars.

73 mustang coupe
Kawasaki 454 LTD
68 VW square back
98 Jeep wrangler
2005 Avalanche

I drive them and drive them until they don't drive anymore. American made cars IMO are more fixable for a shade tree mechanic like myself.
