How you can stimulate the economy...

How exactly did we go from Buy a car and build a house to listing how many and what kind we have owned. I vote this as Most off Topic thread of the month. It is pretty cool though to see what everyone has had. Carry on...

I've never owned a V-8. My dad had a '73 Chevy Impala with a V-8 and Holley 4 barrel carb. Damn thing was fast.

My S60 would cruise very nicely at 110, best highway car I ever owned.

The Odyssey will do 120 easy. I did it on the way to the lake when the car was new. Hit 120 and started to slow down, my wife asked me why I was slowing down:grin:. I love her.

Sorry, random thoughts. You have to read Frank's and Gary's earlier posts to understand

Gee. I didn't think anyone really read my posts.

I'm late to meet my wife and I'm driving her Mark VIII. I think it was the '94. I'm really late and I know she's going to be ... very unhappy in the extreme. Then, by the grace of God, this Porsche 911 flies past. I jump behind him and pretty much can keep up except when he really gooses it and the Lincoln's @#$! computer shuts down the EFI when I hit the limiter @ 136. Why does the the factory do that nonsense? Fun. Car was pretty solid and easy handling.

More recently I was driving her Jag and I'm passed by an M3 and M5 scooting down the highway. I try to keep up, but the pansy-ass Brits stick the car with a EFI shutdown limiter of 121. Sissies. Next time, I'm getting the Super V8. The supercharged engines get the limiter raised to a more manly area of somewhere around 155.

I did have the opportunity to run a new XKR on the track at the Monticello Motor Club a few months ago. I ran the car first then switched seats with a professional Formula 1 driver and he ran it. We were probably running about 150 down the long straight, but I was paying so much attention to watching for the next turn entrance, that I wasn't paying much attention to the speedometer. That was fun.

"new wife"

So how many wives do you have anyway?

One. I knew that I should not have been lazy and should have gone back to edit in that punctuation.
Oh well.

Best regards,
Frank

Germans limit their cars as well @ 155 mph. BMW, MB, and Porsche all do it. It may be a German/European law. You can get a chip that bypasses this limter easily. My SL55 will do nearly do 200 when limiter is off. I have had it at 140 and was scared to death that they would throw me in jail if caught. Very smooth at that speed and really comfortable driving. I cannot Imagine 190-200 mph on the US Interstates.

Track would be a different story.

1973 VW Super Beetle
1955 VW Bus
1985 Honda Accord
1982 FIAT X-19 Bertone
1985 VW Jetta
1996 VW Jetta
2000 VW Jetta
1997 Saturn (wife's)
2000 Ford Contour (wife's company car)
2001 VW Passat (wife's company car)
2003 Cooper Mini............. NEVER SHOUD HAVE SOLD IT:smt089
2004 Ford F-150 (current vehicle)
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laraedo (wife's company car)
2007 Toyota 4-runner (wife's current company car)

Track would be a different story.

If I had a spare $125,000 and $7,500 annually I'd get a membership at Monticello Motor Club. Very nice F1 track.

But my wife would have a fit. and I don't mean a damn honda, either.

Best regards,
Frank
