Gifford's shooting

Agreed Bill.. there is a fine line.

Can we as proud citizens be too vigilant?

My new neighbor (think Slingblade) is pretty weird and annoying. He's a 100% disabled vet (I know because he felt the need to show me his medical records when he introduced himself).

I'm pretty sure if I called the local PD, they would kindly ask me not to call until it was something that needed their attention.

Being weird or creepy is ok. . .being muslim is not so ok.

A very, very fine line.

Geeesh comsnark, I guess I didn't realize the shooter in AZ was a muslim.

Why did you bring "muslim" into this discussion at all? Seems like you're trying to cast a wide net to find some sort of support for your arguments.

Look closer at my posts in this thread. I think you will find I have not been making much of an argument beyond "Don't be afraid".

Here again we can find common ground as we should be vigilant in watching out for our safety and our freedoms.

As long as vigilantes does not take us into paranoia. I don’t stand in paralysis waiting to hear a thump in the night as some may do however when I hear the thump I take action to protect my self and my family.

Profiling is already taking place if we like it or not. Blacks, Middle Easterners, Somalians and well anyone who may look like they are not your A Typical American ( light skin, hair and eyes). So do we know say OK, profile ALL of us, each and everyone one of us???

Where would those resources come from, and would it stop one single shooting?

I am not a Christian, but I am not a Terrorist either. I am a VERY PROUD AMERICAN! I am not what most of you think as the "normal" 50+ year old woman. Yet could I be perceived as a possible threat when profiling? I wish I had a magic wand and could FIX all of this, but I dont. Just like I dont have the answers to fix what is wrong in this Country. I certainly cant blame it on Politics, or Legitimate Spiritual Faiths. To be honest I dont see how "sane" people can blame what is going on this Country on the things I mentioned above.

I just watched the memorial.
Some good words, but I can't help but feeling ill after seeing the event.

Was that a memorial or a rock concert?

I'm happy that Gabby was able to open her eyes after Obama's visit. God Bless Him...

First of all I think the Sheriff, Clerence Dupnik spoke from his rear end instead as a professional law enforcement official. His job was to report FACTS not speculate.....he began this firestorm.

2nd, like just about everyone who breathes and is normal, my deepest condolences to the dead, the injuried, and the familes....this truly was a senseless act of being a crazy coward.

3rd, the Congressman that introduced the new law banning guns for 1000 feet from a political person or rally is a Republican in charge of Homeland Security(Peter King) and usually a good guy. He too has drank the Kool Aid and is pandering as this will NOT stop a person who is hell bent on doing something like this. It only stops the law abiding person from preventing further damage if they get caught up in a nightmare like this........the media fuels this back and forth for RATINGS !

What we need to do is stop making laws and ENFORCE the ones we already have on the books.....NO PLEA Bargains ! :smt038

In the state of AZ, we no longer need CCW's:smt038. Oh how I love my state. Guns don't kill people, people kill people, and I can't believe there weren't more people there, packing to take this guy down, but just like my truck getting broke into in the middle of the day in a crowded parking lot, nobody wants to risk their own neck to help others out or do the right thing.

"Sheeple" would be a good term.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families.
That brings up an interesting point; This was a democrat rally...Had this been a republican rally in Texas, or Arizona, I feel quite sure the number of hand guns present would have been much higher....The body count would most likely have been much lower.....

Completely agree with you. I was taught as a young person growing, "A LOCKED DOOR ONLY KEEPS OUT AN HONEST PERSON"!
