I wish there was a way to get the media to stop promoting these kind of senseless acts of violence by promoting the name, names and or pictures of this and or other individuals, groups that want the recognition. I believe the news needs to be covered and we should be made aware what took place but by deleting the glorification process of individuals, groups and or the like we would help decrease the ever growing trend of these idiots.

I can't help but believe the media coverage, hype and exposure of these kind of nuts does not bring forth more nuts that crave the exposure. If anyone agrees and or knows a way to try and put forth this idea, please speak up.

I believe the coverage encourages more nut cases trying to make a bigger and bigger name for themselves. If I am right then does this not mean the media coverage puts more people at risk?

+1 to Gimme Time's comments about the media. It just makes more of these nutjobs want their 15 minutes of fame.

I wasn't too surprised to see a politician call out for more gun laws. Not too surprised either to find out it was a democrat from NY. Will they never learn? There is not a gun law imaginable that could have prevented this horrendous shooting. The gun was purchased legally.

Add our prayers to those injured and their friends and families.

I think it would be great to withhold the name of the perp. Call him a John Doe right up until the trial verdict. Then give his name when they sentence him to death.

Needless blather in the absence of facts does nobody any good.

And reading more into this than "The guy is a nut case" doesn't do any good either.

I loved the political statement the sheriff gave during his interview with Fox. Real unbiased law enforcement there. Another nut job driving a wedge straight down parties lines. Used his 15 minutes of fame to spread more political hate.

I can knock a buck down from 30 yards with my bow and you'll never know where it came from. I can take out a target at 500 yards with my rifle and I don't care if you see me or not cause I'm gone before you can get to me. Out law my hand gun and I'll turn my .30.30 into a side arm in ten minutes.

Some suit thinks he's going to disarm me and he better bring some help.

You want gun control then KILL the b#####ds that do this stuff and send a message to would be felons. Then law abiding citizens will stay law abiding.

UP to this point I have not yet watched it or anything about it on the TV. I will get CNN updates in my email. It is sad, it is sick, it is wrong. I cant change a damn thing about it, totally powerless. I can however not support the VULTURES of the media. Some of it is so shoddy! My heart and prayers go out to all that are affected.

1+:thumbsup::thumbsup:

There are a few things that take me over the edge and this is one of them. We just went through 2 years of pre trail and trail to convict a scumbag of first degree murder on a young state trooper. Then the jury gives him life because he has a son that needs a father figure. WHAT!!!!

The wife of the trooper who was shot was in the same hospital as her husband giving birth when they brought him in. The baby died a few weeks later of complication and now she is left with nothing.

Two years the media feasted on this. They had to have a change of venue for the scum bag because everyone knew the story.

This scum is in the Chinese mafia. He will rule his drug empire from the jail cell and have all the comforts of home.

There is no arguing with this. There is no right side or left side. WRONG IS WRONG. So why does it get so complicated again? (rhetorical) Where will be the justice for the little innocent 9 year old girl, who's life was ended because she was at a grocery store? As several of you posted to the level of my intelligence, as wrong as you are, I still dont understand this. This man needs to feel the pain he has caused.

I need to be honest with you, Even Fox news went way past reasonable coverage. They had one of his Prof one that couldn't string a complete sentence together.

He was so afraid of the kid but couldn't give an intelligent reason why other than the kid was weird. What does that mean? There were a lot of weird kids in school when I was there and non of them did this. Another 15 minute famer with no substance.

Let get a grip and take a break media heads. Let it develop though police investigation and then report the findings.

Are you ready to observe the "Moment of Silence" planned for later today? I'd bet the victims and their families would rather have a "Moment of Prayer"!

Here is how it will play out.

For those who believe in prayer:
"Dear lord, please hold the victims and their families in your arms as the suffer in their darkest of times. Give strength and power to the caregivers, so they can provide the best care possible to heal the physical and emotional wounds. In your name, Amen!"

For those who don't believe in prayer:
"I wonder who won the football game between the Packers and the Eagles?"

We can’t say we weren’t warned about shooting

We cannot walk away from this one.
We cannot blame one nutjob for the shooting of 19 people Saturday in Tucson, Ariz., and wash our hands of it.
We cannot pretend that this is only about him and not about us.
Worst of all, we cannot say we were not warned.
For more than two years, sensible people have been pleading with their fellow Americans to tone down the rhetoric, to quit with the demonizing, to end the fear-mongering.
In what kind of country, the sensible people asked, do political leaders across the board not condemn a sign at a rally that reads: “We left our guns at home — this time”?
In what kind of country do people show up at presidential speeches with guns on their hips?
In what kind of a country do callers to radio shows routinely smear those with whom they disagree — beginning with our president — as “traitors” and “un-American,” while pandering hosts say only, “Thanks for the call.”
If we continue this way, the sensible people warned, something will happen.
And now something has happened.
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, an Arizona Democrat, was meeting with constituents outside a supermarket Saturday — a “Congress on Your Corner” event — when a young man walked up, aimed a gun at her head and started shooting.
As we wrote this, Giffords was fighting for her life in a Tucson hospital. Six people were dead. Twelve others were wounded.
What drove the killer, who police say might have had an accomplice? Was it the reckless rhetoric of our times? As of yet, we don’t know. Maybe, though improbably, politics had nothing to do with this.
Only in time will we know if the killer was among those who threatened Giffords with physical harm last year when she voted in favor of President Obama’s health-care reforms. We may never know whether he was the one who shattered the windows of her Tucson office. And it’s entirely possible that he was not among those — the many — who threatened her with death after she spoke out against Arizona’s harsh new immigration law.
But would any intelligent person be surprised to learn otherwise?
The safe observation for us to make now — you will hear it from others all week — is that the angry and irresponsible talk that might lead an unhinged person to pick up a gun is common across the political landscape, from right to left.
But that simply is not true.
Overwhelmingly today, the fear-mongering and demonizing flow from the right, aided and abetted by cable TV and talk-radio hosts. They may represent only the irresponsible fringe of conservatism in America, but they are drowning out the thoughtful voices of the vast majority of conservatives.
Giffords, as she showed by meeting constituents outside that supermarket, dared to believe that Americans can disagree with each other without turning on each other.
Maybe that was a mistake.

Yes, its a "cut & paste" but it says exactly what I am thinking. Maybe we all can learn a lesson from this tragedy.

This is also a cut & paste from my daughter's facebook page: I am disgusted with the tragic deaths in AZ. F***ING crazies thinking their religion, God or anything else gives them a right to kill people. TURN OFF FOX news, Beck, etc and educate YOURSELF about politics and that our differences make us great. Question yourself, your values and don't push them on anyone else!

It is a fact that our differences make this a great country. Lets stop hating each other and start condemning those who continue to fan the flames of division in this country.

I can't help myself but the Sun Times article and the term sheople does come to mind. That and the image of some little short Austrian

Until the murder of anyone is as important as the loss of a political or law enforcement figure, the discussion is going to be politicized. Perhaps this can open the dialog in favor of increasing the impact of conservative, responsible and limited government instead of simply being a knee-jerk opportunity for yapping.

"I long for the day that our political and media figures get as indignant about innocent Americans killed by their own government...as they are about a government official who was targeted by a clearly sick and deranged young man." Balko, referring to the Cato raid map ...clearly not as important to the national discussion.

No trial should be needed but millions will be spent to prove his guilt. The families of those lost will be pushed aside. He should be put to death to set an example and accoutability but millions will be spent to keep him alive in jail. All these facts are terrible and the media plays on. This is what our country has come to. I'm shocked no one in the crowd killed him.....a public beating would have been fine with me. Since a child was killed, he'll die in prison by the hands of another inmate who loves children. I'm good with that. You have seen a miricle though, Rep. Gifford is sill alive...., Mike.
