Fighting the disease

Yeah...... But those are Australian Dollars. They don't count! :smt043

Sorry, couldn't resist. I drive a 2001 Mitsu Montero w/ pitted wheels and close to 200K miles on her. Take a shot!

Aussie Dollars yeah, which means at present that 57 would be around USD65

Now take a shot..........the wife has the Bmmmr

Me......I bought myself a Mitsu Lancer Ralliart......the 2L Turbo, AWD, dual clutch electronic transmission, with paddleshifts, etc etc................Cheap, but what a blast

just picked up a new 435i XDrive w/ M Perf Pkg....really fun car, but I came out of the last 5 vehicles being 3-X5's and 2- Jeep Wrangler Sahara's and Man am I missing the room and the ride height, lol....I feel like my butt's draggin the ground....the car is white w/graphite front spillter and rear spoiler which really pops the white color....Oh and on the depreciation scenario, the list on the car was 66.7k and two months in, was worth 55k from one dealer and 51k from another.....that's the price of poker when buying any new car and new boats are even worse....

BMW = Break My Wallet, if you are leasing go for it. Turn it in at the end of the lease and walk (run/sprint) away. If you are going to purchase one make sure that you are willing to part with it when it reaches its 5th + birthday. While there are always exceptions, BMWs for the most part, while fun to drive simply do not age well and are extremely expensive to maintain. I work in an industry where I am in and around all manner of automoblies, in all states (from new to beaten to death) and all ages and I can tell you, BMWs outside of the initial "nut" are an expensive proposition in the long term.

The 7 series is getting long in the tooth and is due for a significant make over. When that happens the already below average residual value of that car will get much worse. That said, I have always loved BMW's and my wife drives a 535i so I understand the emotion. I'd buy it used and get an extended warranty. Otherwise you stand to loose $40K+ in 3 years.

One of my friends is BMW service manager and only buy one with factory service contract. The older one will send you broke in repair bills. The other way is to get a program car they have repair included.

I've got a 2014 M5 with 6,000 miles on it. It's a nice car but doesn't really "do it" for me. I suspect after a few months the 7 won't do it for you any more either, Robert. I've started looking at used Ferrari's, 360's and 430's....I've been surfing Hemmings and other collectible car web sites. They're just as bad as the boat porn that is Yachtworld. Wait a few months and if you're still hot to get the 7, buy it.

This was my experience with my 540I Sport. I babied this car and over maintained it. At 100K miles it started to really go. Electronics, trans, and cooling.... = sold..

Hmmm ya'll got me thinking , pretty sure I'm going to take a breth and slow down a bit , it's always nice when you can get great advice from gents like you guys . I do know one thing, a Cadillac is not much better . 2012 SRX , new heater, new heater motor , new AC unit all NOT under warrantee too many miles over 100,000 but no help from GM

Honestly I would put a modern American car in the same repair cost level as most "average" German cars. I will exclude Merc S class, BMW 7 and M cars, and any Audi A6 or above as well as their S models from average. Honestly, a 911 is an excellent bang for the buck car too. They are built to be driven on a track and they are easy and reasonable to maintain.

Oh I forgot to mention the 2500.00 repair bill they wanted to perform on the Cadillac because the low oil light came on , they said it needed a new timing chain , I told them shut the hood and get the hell away from my car .... American dealers , what a bunch of ripoff artists ....

Go with a CPO but get rid of the crappy run flat tires that BMW uses...those things are junk. We have a 2013 X5 that we bought brand new and last week I replaced the Michelin run flats with Goodyear Eagle F1's.... amazing difference in ride and handling.

Hello Boltman-I just wanted to chime in and say that after 3 years with my wife having a 335Ix, Friday I traded it in for a 535ix. I'm a bigger man and the 335 just didn't have the space. Granted, my wife drives this car all the time, I wanted a car I could take out once in awhile. Now she never takes the 460 out, but she does like the Zodiac. I feel life is full of trade offs, so what the hell!

Good luck on the decision. Personally I love the 750! Gorgeous car, but couldn't go for a new one without a Labotomy.

I'm looking into that labatomy but for other reasons , I have 7 adult children , 5 are steps and they're driving me all up the wall with this entitlement attitude . The steps are all losers and yeah can't shoot them.

Tonka, Goodyear Eagle F1s are junk tires for michigan , they do not hook up in cold weather at all , I know this from my SHELBY I just sold , if I ever do get this car , I will change out the tires though.

I don't know Bolt. I recall a final boat ride on the final episode of Season 2 of the Soprano's. Granted it was a Bayliner and only put out 700 HP....BUT it got the job done........

That timing chain failure happened to my BIL's SRX. The dealer stepped up and paid the labor because he had just bought the car like 45 days before.

PM me if you want to talk specifics about any car you are considering. I'm in the industry but NOT in sales at all.

Cars/trucks are such a waste of money but you gotta have at least one. In a couple years I'm going to splurge and get myself a new Chevy. Been getting well over 200K miles out of them with minimal repairs. When I do take them in for service I schedule early appointments so I can be sure I'll get some donuts.

Nick that's just it , it didn't have issues they just thought I was ignorant. It just needed an oil change. As for the 750 everything is electronic which scared me ......even the seat belts automatically tighten , scarey

We have the same, if not worse, weather here in MN and there are a few varieties in the F1 lineup... the Asymmetric All-Season F1's are amazing in the snow and also have excellent sport performance. In my opinion, these should be BMW's stock tires in the northern climates. I would imagine you had the sport F1's on your Shelby.

Either way...the 750 is a great car.
