Guys I want a BMW 750 LI X drive , I've sold my 2011 GT500 Shelby KONA Blue , can't use it in Michigan, with our roads and Winter time.
So I want to get whaty Dad use to call a " sunday go meetin car" I can buy one used with 20,000 miles or so for 50K or this 2014 brand new for 87K

What should I do? I don't need the car , I want the car but the wife isn't happy about it, says wait until after the new year!!!
Damn I should be supported by my wife,I'm 50 years old... Help.

You can buy 9200 gals of fuel for the boat with that savings. And by the time you get the new one home, it will worth the price of the used one.. Hope that's what you wanted to hear.

Robert, you're probably not going to like my advice, but I'd recommend giving it 30 days (at least) and see if the passion is still as strong as it is now. A huge majority of cars are sold to guys who have a woody that was brought on by a car or truck he lusted after.

On the other hand, that is one Gorgeous BMW, and that comes from a BMW driver.

I've never been a big car guy, basically I would drive what ever fit the bill for the time being. A few years ago the "fancy car bug" bit me and I found myself sitting in a Mercedes E320. I absolutely loved that car but my wife hated it. She called it my hoity toity car.

Last year it was totalled and I found myself sitting with a check for a bunch of money from insurance. This advanced my big boat purchase by at least 6 months thanks to my new found down payment.

I now drive a 2007 Expedition EL that I bought used. It has more toys than the Mercedes did and cost a whole lot less. Not having a car payment saves me a bunch of money which can now be converted to diesel fuel for the boat.

Don't buy a new one....the depreciation on those German cars is ridiculous (I speak from experience...I have a CL500 'Benz)......its as bad as new boats.....save huge and buy used.

Yeah guys I'm going to just pause, maybe wait until spring time , I don't mind buying a car with 25,000 miles or so to save 30K , and first class , you know they're a badass car, if you have a BMW , I think I'm going to try to get him down into the 70's of i can if not , they pop up for sale all the time every where , just not sure if I want someone else's car but I will always buy someone else's boat .... No there's depreciation for you.
We have a Cadillac SRX already , I want something better this time ... Keep talking guys it's working

I have had 7 BMWs. My current one is an M5. They are the best driving cars out there IMO. That being said Germans are known for their solid mechanicals and excellent craftsmanship, unfortunately electronics are not their strong suit. So if you get a used one make sure it has a warranty that lasts the time/mileage you plan on keeping it or be prepared for large repairs costs for what seem to be little problems. Most of which are hard to sort out yourself because they are electronic so you need their computer for diagnostics. I would never talk anyone out of buying one, so don't get me wrong they are worth the grief. They are a lot like a boat in that way. If you buy a used one some of the savings you get to keep in your pocket by not buying new will be spent on repairs.

2. BMW's,2.benz's and wife's getting a new E350. Our opinion is the Benz out rides the BMW for comfort but they have performance
I say buy the used one if its certified the warranty is usually longer than the factory and someone else paid some of the depreciation for you. 20k miles on a 7 series is nothing that car will smoke the tires all day!!!! I say put on your big boy pants tommorrow and come home with a shiny fast German car!!!!!!!!

Damn, even brand new, that's cheap.

We paid $57k for my wife's 320d and that was an $8k discount

Boltman - sound like you have made your mind up - but, the admiral and I often get heat from friends given we love our cars even more than boats, until I point out every car we own (and we have what could be considered a small fleet for just the two of us) - we buy after one or two years of life and it sure takes the sting out of the outlay.

I am not a Beemer fan to be honest - even though, I have to say that German cars make up most of our small collection - and that car looks like a beauty.

Wise decadence means buy it after a year, ideally CPO or manufacturers warranty - and put the money iyou save into another car, or boat.

OR - buy it new and sell it to me next year for 60% of your outlay - glad to be of assistance :smt038

As long as you are paying cash for it, then I say go for it. If you are talking about financing either one, then you are outside of what I believe in. I don't finance depreciating assets.

No question - used with the BMW CPO program.
I've owned 3 7's this way and it works out great.
If you think you like the 7 then take a look at a B7, awesome car!!!
I went from the B7 to a 650i and can't wait to get back to the states to get another B7.

I drive a 745li, I had a 750il. We also have a CLS-500 Benz that my wife drives. LOVE the 7 - drives great, but the purchase price is a small part of the cost on Beemers.... they cost a fortune every time you take them in. The CLS-500 drives awesome, looks great and is super reliable.

Regardless - buy used, save the cash for boating! IMHO

I am going to tell you to go big. Forget the BMW and buy an Aston Martin. Really get her wound up. Then take her to dinner in it and enjoy finding it exactly where you got out of it when you pulled up to the valet. All joking aside, don't buy new European cars, depreciation is a nasty hit. Get one a year old certified pre-owned by the manufacturer. The warranty is better(longer), especially if you drive lots of miles yearly. Having owned 4 Mercs and a solid BMW in addition to working for MB, I will say the 7 series is a tricky car for resale. The current body style has been around for a few years now and was pretty trouble free for the get go, but they suffer from a problematic past history from the last two generations. They are fantastic driving cars though and I personally love the current generation 7. The B7 is a great car but it does have quite a few bespoke components and that will drive maintenance and repair costs up substantially as well. If you would like to spend a little less and still get an amazing car, find a 535 or 550. They come in all wheel drive as well and are just as fun with a few(not really game changing) gimmicks missing.

I say buy used, light mileage with CPO coverage and all is good. Wife and I both have BMW X's and really like the comfort and German engineering. Yep they are expensive to take in to the shop, but so was the Lexus... So I don't notice too much of a difference... YET! Both of ours were used and I shopped around to find one I liked with the options I would have picked. Took a little while but was well worth it. Found mine 200 miles away in another state and brought it... Enjoy!

I can't afford the entry fee to your playground but feel the need to jump in here having lived in Europe. I drove a 528i for 3 years. Euro cars by design do not even get comfy until 90 and really settle down until about 110. That's MPH, not klicks. The facts are, you are just not going to do that too many times in this country. Get cought doing it and it's ta-ta driver license. That said, if you must have it, go CPO or used. You will take a smack in depreciation.

What TMC209 said about maintenance is spot on. My ex BIL had a Benz. The glass came loose on his driver side rear view mirror. He brought it in to the shop to get the shop to re-attach it with the "proper" adhesive (if there is such a thing). Long story short, he dropped the glass. $160 for a new one. No auto defrost...Nothing. $160 for a small mirror. That was over 20 years ago.

BMW is not Bavarian Motor Works..... It means Beyond Mere Wealth.

Caveat Emptor.

Yeah...... But those are Australian Dollars. They don't count! :smt043

Sorry, couldn't resist. I drive a 2001 Mitsu Montero w/ pitted wheels and close to 200K miles on her. Take a shot!

Then don't get the car.

Get the used one, BMW has good used car programs. I am looking at leasing on of these shortly. Nice rates and fun driving cars.

It is always good for me to reflect on the purchase for a bit. The excitement of new wears off pretty quickly. That being said no need to justify a new ride. I have bought used before that I was happy with and used I regretted. In general my old BMW was CPO and they replaced tires that only had 8000 miles on them, I saw it on the lot after I traded it. They go over the cars quite thoroughly.
