Fast food rant

Well, some good news and some unhappy news.

The prior PM was let go because he apparently had a difficult time getting forceful with his guys with getting workers scheduled in to do jobs in the house. That's why our project is so far behind.

The good news is that the new PM is much more schedule oriented. Today there were 7 trucks there with workers doing several jobs. Things seem to be progressing rapidly.

Given that bit of info it appears we are going to be able to take our trip after all. They are going to lock up the house, remove the lock boxes and give us the key so nobody can gain access.

There will be a couple of small things that will not be able to be completed but those will be put on hold until our return.

The house will remain empty (no furniture, etc inside) until we get back and then, once the work is completed and we have signed off we'll have the movers come back to put everything back in the house.

Things are looking up.

That is great news indeed. Glad to hear it.

While that may be unfortunate for him, he is very likely better suited for a different kind of work.
Dealing with sub-contractors can be like herding cats, and being a little forceful when need be, is far more
productive than the alternative.

I dare say your trip will be more enjoyable knowing that you'll be able to finally move home soon thereafter. :)

I'm in the trade business and we work on a lot of empty houses when people are gone if the house doesn't have anything in it how can you don't want the workers there just curious

Good question. While the lower floor is empty, the upper floor still has all of our "stuff" in it. There are a lot of collectibles and other valuable things that someone might want.

I'm a project manager and sometimes it's hard to get everyone lined up at the same time just like the planets it seems especially with subs

Today is the day we close up the condo and head back north to WA. We've had a great trip down here and seem some areas of AZ we hadn't seen before.

We met up with some great friends and took a 3-day trip to Bisbee and Tombstone, ate in some great new restaurants, got to relax by the pool, got some sun so I don't look like I'm pasty white, and just had a nice, relaxing time.

I took my wife's car in for its' first oil change yesterday then we picked up the rental car we'll use to get to the airport.

When we get back we'll check back into the same hotel for about a week while the work finishes up on the house and the furniture and personal stuff gets moved back in. We're meeting with the project manager tomorrow morning to do a walk through to make sure everything we need done gets pointed out to him.

We figure they'll finish up on Tuesday or Wednesday. We'll do our final walk through then sign off on the work. We have the movers scheduled for next Thursday and the company we rented the storage pod from can pick it up Friday.

Then we're finally done with this whole mess that started on September 29. It's been about 6.5 months so it will seem good to finally be home.

I hope you guys took in the comedy gun fight in Tombstone. We went to it in January, it was far better than the one at the OK Corral.
Also, if you haven't yet, next time check out Kartchner Caverns, well worth a visit.

I have just had my last fast food ever. EVER! E.V.E.R!
Tried the Popeyes Blackened chicken sandwich, Got home, plain breaded chicken.
Last week, 2 McD double cheeseburgers, got home had 2 single nasty cheeseburgers.
BK - I dont even remember, wasnt even close.
In all cases the receipt was correct, so it wasnt the order taker fault.
I am here to say I am officially done with all these places forever.
And these morons want $15 an hour?! I wouldnt pay these dickheads a $1 an hour.
How hard is to read the damn screen in front of their faces.
Nope, I am done, never again.
Will just go to the mom and pop delis and sub shops from now on.
our orders are always jacked up... I think everyone is high. lol

Greg, we didn't stay long in Tombstone but not because of anything going on in town.

We had our 10 pound dog on a leash, walking down a boardwalk sidewalk. Two large dogs coming from the opposite direction started barking at her and she started to run. About that time stagecoach was coming down the street and she panicked. She spun out of her collar and took off.

We chased her for 2 blocks until we caught up and cornered her. She was shaking like a leaf so we loaded up in the car and headed out.

Chalk it up to "shit happens".

P.S. When we landed I checked emails and found that I'd gotten an email from a new project manager, our third, who said he was taking over the project. Not sure why the other guy was fired but that's not important.

Met the guy today, seems nice and very interested in getting things done. We should still do the final walk through and sign off on the project on Monday.

Keeping fingers crossed.

Well, if you go back, take in the comedy gun fight. It's the best one there.
I wouldn't take a dog though as there is a lot of guns shooting.

We definitely will be back. We hadn't heard of the comedy gun fight. We'll definitely watch that one and definitely park a couple of blocks away and leave the dog in the car.

Thanks for that tidbit of info.

It's great to hear that things are finally looking up with the new project manager taking charge. It must be a huge relief to see progress being made after experiencing delays.
The fact that there were 7 trucks there with workers today shows that things are moving along swiftly. It sounds like the new PM is really making a positive impact with their focus on scheduling and efficiency.

Thank you. Project Managers, who manage projects poorly, need less projects to manage in my opinion. However, Project Managers, who manage projects well, need more projects to manage vs. managing less projects.

Is this a Korean corn dog you were discussing earlier?

Now, as we get closer to the finish line we have encountered another delay. The flooring on the main floor has to be completely refinished.

On taking a closer look at it we can see numerous areas that didn't get buffed out correctly. That left some areas where there is no shine vs the majority of the floor that has a nice gloss.

So now, instead of moving back in on Thursday, we're back to Saturday. Bummer, but we want it done right, not done fast.

One step forward, two steps back.

That sucks. More healthy restaurant meals.

Well, mostly good news abounds. :D We moved into the house on Tuesday and were surrounded by tons of boxes of our "stuff" that we needed to get unpacked and things put away.

The work that was to be done was mostly finished and finished right. There were a few things that still need to be fixed/completed and, aside from those minor items the work is done.

It's now Friday and we're still waiting for a couple of items but for the most part the work is complete and we're very happy with how it turned out.

I haven't had a chance to total up the food bills and the bills for the moving company and storage pod company and some other things but I'm guessing those will come up to around $20K.

I haven't taken pics of the completed work yet because we still have some things to put away but I'll post them if anyone is interested. It's been a loooong 8 months since this mess all started and it's good to have it done.
