Does the TSA make us safe?

If there was no TSA where would all of the wanna be cops have their ego validated. There are also an aweful lot of unemployed mall security guards who have found a permenant home at the TSA. America just wouldn't be the same without them.

I propose privatization where accountability is forced by the threat of loosing your job. Privatization would also provide a happier better paid workforce.
So if the TSA is of no value, would you feel comfortable flying without a screening at all? What do you propose is a better solution. I think you're getting 'inconvenience' vs. 'value' confused.

Actually, do you know accountability is enforced with the TSA? TSA officials rotate at a fixed interval. Take for instance the baggage Xray tech... there are actually 'decoys' that show up on baggage that look like a true weapon or something suspicious at random times throughout one's shift there. If the tech misses these throughout the day, then action will be taken.

The security group needs to be supplied and employed by either the airline or the airport itself. Once the government gets involved, there is too much job security. The weakest link is enabled to not only survive, but thrive. These positions need to be non-union, and there needs to be accountability, and I hate to say it, a minimum aptitude for being hired.

There are some fine folks who are employed by TSA, but there are just as many, if not more who are lazy and complacent. I'd rather have a group of people who are performance motivated screening passengers that are boarding my aircraft, personally. Of course, as of the last five years, I fly cargo rather than people, and UPS or it's contractors screen the materials loaded. Not to say they never miss anything, because they have, but they are still better than the TSA groupies. Unfortunately, we still have to deal with TSA when we position or de-position for our flights.

Great points, remember TSA is ran by the type of people who used to run the BMV or DMV at the state level.

What do you fliers think of the Israeli profiling model? MM

So many of you Monday Morning Quarter Backs haven't a clue. My brother in-law (I say that loosely) was fired as a TSA guy. He checked an ol mans bag , for some reason he had to go get something and when returning a few minutes later, he supposedly didn't check the bag again. He was fired!! And for all you SOB'S that ***** about being inconvenienced by the TSA, go take the damn bus, because you haven't a clue. Trailer trash flys now because fares are low enough to do so, my wife has been a Flt. Attnd. for 24 years, she too agrees w/me, yes there are some sorry-asses in TSA, but there are everywhere. You need to look no further than someone you might work for or maybe even a CSR member!!

I don't think anyone is advocating no security. I've seen security and the TSA is not providing security. They are a joke.

Sorry to hear about your brother in law. Perhaps he should have followed the SOP. People make mistakes but I think some other issues may have been in play. Is he white? I can only speak from my own personal experience as I am not related to any TSA officers. My elderly father was insulted and humiliated by a TSA agent in Philly. When he didn't understand the agents command due to a lack of knowlege of the English language he was yelled at. He is 84 and a retired Presbyterian minister. When my daughter was sick her liquid medicine was taken away because it was more than 3 ounces. do you know what it's like trying to find a doctor in a strange city on the other side of the country and explaining the situation and getting medical records. Do you think either of those agents were fired? As for the trailer comment it showes the type of person you are. Try defining people by their actions and not their economic status.

Like I said, there are definately some sorry TSA agents out there(sorry about your experience). And as far as my trailer trash comment, it does hold water. Do you have any idea what most of my gate calls are as a technican?? They are for dirty, soiled, seat cushions. Bet that surprized you..........

I have a relative who works for TSA Internal Affairs and is one who flies in and out of airports trying to sneak contraband onto planes. He has very little good to say about TSA agents.

Be friends with someone that owns a Lear Jet..... PROBLEM SOLVED. :smt001

[h=2]Does the TSA make us safe?[/h]About as safe as gun control zealots, tree huggers, most liberals, lazy people, congress, Barry, Barney, Nancy, Harry, Bernanke, the new EPA powers etc. Why I know I sleep better just knowing a law has been passed making something illegal...just think if a law was passed making it illegal to own a gun no one would ever get shot again in the good ole USA. Why just imagine all the sound sleeping folks could do then? :smt043:smt043

There is no such thing as a utopia, there will always be someone who has to shovel the sh!t, and someone willing to tell them to shovel it, so long as they do have to do it their self.

The only reason why your daughter's meds were confiscated were because they were OTC (over the counter) liquid meds. If it was a prescription, it needs to have a label on it, and in that case, it won't be confiscated regardless of the number of ounces. If you want to be picky, the allowable limit is actually 3.4 oz or 100 ml. And if the meds were that important, get out of line and go check it with your other luggage. Not trying to sound like a d*ck, but most people don't know the rules. I fly often. I know the rules. I don't get hassled.

That isn't what the TSA site says. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/specialneeds/editorial_1059.shtm

Not compared to anything. He's talking about the current crop of TSA screeners. I don't want to start a riot on here so I won't tell you what he's told me about them, but suffice it to say that his comments have been far from positive.
