Cummins Gauges

Orlando, looking at the new chart scheme, I'm not sure if it's good or bad. Looks like a little larger coverage area per chart (entire east coast vice just mid-atlantic) and continuous update instead of one-and-done. Price is $250 versus $230 for my previous Vision chart annual cost. There's time available to evaluate before I need to decide.
Sheesh they are proud of the updates.
Anyhow unless (at least in my boat) the Garmin can integrate the Smartcraft fuel flow from the engine ECM's (NMEA 2000 data from the VV7) the calculations will be approximate at best which won't do for travel to the Abaco for me. Or install the expensive fuel flow systems.
What I don't know is if the VV7 translates the fuel flow data onto NMEA 2000. It does the fuel levels. I've never really looked for the data on the Maretron DSM410s. Maybe when I next go to the boat I'll look to see if Maretron has a fuel flow feature and then if the data is available.

Tom, VesselView does send fuel flow and it shows up on NMEA 2000, at least with my engines. I believe the NMEA data element name is "Fuel Rate #X" where X tracks engine instance. Not sure about Maretron, but I'm sure Garmin picks it up and uses it to adjust fuel on board levels. It can be confusing because Garmin is also tracking tank levels. I'm a long way from my boat right now but I think I have some screenshots with data fields set up for every fuel parameter. I will post if I find them.

Yeah, I am on the fence as well. Not sure the subscription plan is what I want or not. If the chart(s) are more like the Navionic's app then I will do it in a heart beat. I really like the Fishing Sonar map in the Navionic's app and wish Garmin would provide that with the vision charts.

Might do the FW update tomorrow, will see how that goes.

Tom - the 410 does support the fuel flow PGN's, just not sure what the VV puts out and if they are the same. But as @alnav stated the Garmin does support that, so Maretron should as well.

I just finished up another project so I'll have some time - I'll take a look at what the DSM410 can receive on fuel flow with what I have.

my electronics job here on the mid Ohio River Valley is still not done. New open array radar, "12 and 9" axiom+, FLIR camera, reverse camera, and VV 7.03 still not functional. Geez I may need help. U think! Needless to say I am witts end.
Not a soul around here knows chit. I may end up having to pay someone to come in and finish the damn job. Including travel or what ever it takes.
My dash has wiring harness's hanging out of it. I am getting pissed off, this is unreal.

That's not good at all. Did your installer bail out on you?

he is DAMN sure not finishing quick enough for me. wiring hanging out of dash nothing
working as I had thought. Would love to get a hold of him. No, I do think he is in over his head.
i will take the boat out this weekend for the 1st time this year and I do not think anything is working. In fact the dash panels r not mounted with the screws. Wiring harnesses are hanging out all over. at wits end.

That sucks…The VV7 conversion on QSC’s is not that hard just need all the correct harnesses and it is plug and pray. Gauges will work fine with the right harnesses.

I was wondering if the VV7 will work along side with the smart craft.
Had the boat out this weekend and none of the gauges worked and the VV was only picking up the starboard motor.

In fact guys I am worn out with this electronic thing. Cannot wait until it all works.

The whole trick it the right harness set up. Without it you will never have a chance.

Will smartcraft work along side of VV sir?

Did your Tech verify compatibility of the SIM modules on the engines? The SIM's are the Motorola black boxes mounted on the engines which convert the Cummins ECM data (SAE J1939) and the tank level, steering, and other external sensors to the Smartcraft data protocol.
Do you have all of the correct wire harnesses required? It seems you may not - I can tell you that as your gauges are digital (LinkSys) that the harness 84-892990T01 you showed in an earlier post isn't needed; that harness is for use on analog gauges.
As a note if your gauges are working then the VV is working and the SIM's are probably fully functional. The gauges must have the VV to work.

It seems to me at this point that it may be wise to have a Merc/Cummins service center finish. You may have to pay for travel and hotel but worth the price.... I had Shearwater Marine in Stuart Fl travel to replace the Cummins/Smartcraft electronics and cabling on my boat after a lightning strike. The SIM's are critical to the system compatibility and the most challenging for them to get right. As your boat is a 2008 I suspect you are ok on the SIM's but still you never know....

now it seems as if though he has blown a fuse and cannot find it. neither the VV7,
smarftcraft, or gauges are working. Anyone have any idea whats up.

How do you blow a fuse in a Smartcraft data system???
Regardless, the fuse that powers the network is in the "Medusa" wire harness on the engine. A 10 Amp if I remember correctly.
Another fuse (15 Amp) provides power to the SIM and everything it monitors. That fuse is on the engine side of the 40 pin harness connector.

Sir I have no idea what he has done. In fact I maybe calling someone else in to finish. this has taken way to long to suit me.
thank you for your continued help.
