Cummins Gauges

This is what Merc told me I needed with their lastest VV gateway software that would solve my issues. I installed it and it fixed everything.

That is the single "wake" wire I was discussing above that installs between the two J-boxes in the overhead.
If I remember correctly the single wire connector connects to the Port J-box, the other end connects to the Stbd J-box, and the third connector connects to the 87M0070647 Vessel View adapter harness. Then the 87M0070647 VV adapter harness connects to: the Vessel View interface harnesses, Sys Link Gauge harnesses, and Temperature probe. @RBB 's boat should already have that harness with the single wire.

But - you still need the data cross-over harness under the helm which includes the C-Cruise multiplexer box interface also under the helm.

Well his boat has QSC's like mine and it was what fixed my issue. I can also say if you end up grading to a VV703 you will use it also as it was needed in the VV703 install.

To @alnav Al's point, Garmin does not use the trip PGN 127496/7 for fuel info, only PGN 127489 for fuel flow and 127505 for fuel level, only for display. Not quite sure what Garmin is/was thinking not supporting fuel management but they don't really do that even though they have a screen just for that. They could have at least looked at 127505 for fuel level and remaining calculations. This is one of the only bad things I can say about the newer MFD's.

Here is a reference for the PGN's

A little follow-up on Garmin fuel management. Here's a screenshot of my "Fuel" screen:
Garmin Fuel Mgmt Screen.jpeg

And Maretron Fuel:
Maretron Fuel Mgmt.jpeg

Neither one will calculate useful range numbers until the boat is moving and they can calculate fuel economy.
I don't bring up the Garmin screen much if at all while underway. Instead, I've inserted data boxes on one of my cruising screens for Economy, Flow, Range and Remaining Fuel.
Configuration is awkward. Several diverse menus need to be tweaked to get all the gauges and fields to work. For example, Fuel Onboard can't be accessed from the Fuel page, rather it has to be done from an Engine page.
Here is the menu for setting one of the parameters:
Garmin Fuel Install Screen.jpeg

This one is buried in "Installation". I am set up for "Use Total Fuel Onboard" but it looks like selecting "Use Fuel Tank Levels" may provide the capability Orlando was looking for. I was hesitant to change it as I don't want to blow up my setup and have to start over.

I wish that were the case Al, I only have "Use Tank Levels" and that does nothing at all except display the fuel tank level for each tank. The fuel remaining is taken from the vessel info of total fuel on board, which not only makes no sense but is always wrong as it is a static parameter that never changes. I believe this is a bug of sorts, as a lot of this information could be populated by the fuel remaining and tank levels handled by the Maretron devices (TLM100's). But to your point, the tank level does bounce around a bit while under way. I use the DSM410 for tank levels and total fuel remaining info. I believe your screen is populated because of the fuel management provided by the smartcraft to N2K data going on.

Shaps I have those other cables coming,Does it look like I have everything I need

Maybe I missed it but I don't see the nmea 2k Tee
Also, maybe a picture from under your helm. You will need to have an open port on your jbox.

The only thing to add is perhaps the cable that @ttmott and @ocgrant mentioned. I personally did not need that.

Update, my guy is on boat today. I am headed down. He seems to think we may have it.
I will update this evening.

Fellas my analogs will not work with the diesel
View Removed. Is it possible someone could call me as we are at the boat with installer. The vessel view is installed.

Any help would be appreciated
The VV harness (f) has four connectors for the system link gauges (k through n). In the VV menu those gauges must be activated under the EasyLink Settings of the VV setup. Sorry I'm unable to give you a call right now.

@ttmott i think we got it, thank u sir

My generator is not showing up. What do I need to do there

Well the install is still not fully functional and weather is cold here. Installer says I need a Cummins/Onan module of some sort for the generator that is back ordered everywhere. Part #541-1195-03 . Does this sound right.
thanks

That is the part number for the Network Interface Module (NIM). But, if you used to see generator data on your Smartcraft, you already had one that just needs to be modified to transmit J1939 instead of Smartcraft. If you can get to your generator control box and remove its top, take and post a picture and several of us can likely help.

Yep, you are looking for this:

I was randomly surfing just now and had a tab open for the quarterly Garmin software update summary, just released this week. Look what's there:

I think this may do what you are looking for.
In addition to this, what seems like major look and feel changes to the interface are in the update. There's also a "Vessel Look-Ahead" feature that will expand the view ahead based on speed instead of own-vessel always being in the center. Raymarine has had this forever and I have always wanted it on my Garmins.

Wow, that is a major update! Thank you Al, that is exactly what I was looking for. I got the email about the Navionics chart update, now they are offering a subscription plan for chart updates. But the rest of the updates are quite welcome!

Orlando, looking at the new chart scheme, I'm not sure if it's good or bad. Looks like a little larger coverage area per chart (entire east coast vice just mid-atlantic) and continuous update instead of one-and-done. Price is $250 versus $230 for my previous Vision chart annual cost. There's time available to evaluate before I need to decide.
