It still in the water....so have to move fast. As you suggest, start with the haul out and check the hull, clean the props and bottom and then back into water. If it passes, then move to engine survey....the day after. The oil was just changed, so no value in doing oil samples.

Hull Survey guy was pretty depressing....in his opinion, its just a matter of time when these hulls start to leak. With that knowledge, his opinion was these are hard to sell boats. Same problem with 48DB and all the cored hulls produced by SR in this era. He surveyed new boats right after delivery and they already had water intrusion issues and had to be fixed.

WTH, was this guy a Pascoe protégé? Any boat that is not properly maintained is going to have water intrusion issues, cored hull or not. Oh, and a 480 DB hard to sell, I call Bull $hit!

Ed, I would look for another surveyor. I have had what equates to a dossier on the 420 AC's for sale (my next boat) on boattrader and yachtworld for about 2 years running now. There are a rare few that have been for sale that long (and they are the low priced ones) but most disappear within about 2 to 8 months. Also, if you PM me your email address, I have info that Frank Webster put together about cored hulls that you should most definitely read.

Hull survey was today and it passed. Moisture in typical spots by rope locker (top deck), around forward hatch, around a few vents (bathroom, etc). Started at 9:30 am and finished at 5pm. I was there at 730am wiping down the hull.

seatrail not so good....stb engine would not spool up so back to dock. turbo boot clamp failed so boot separated. New clamp and good to go. Boat cruises at 23 knots at 2400rpm. Should really cruise at 2200 rpm or 21 knots. WOT was 2600rpm for Cummins 430 hp 6CTA.

Engine survey is tomorrow. I noticed the exhaust elbow had epoxy on it....assume these rot thru. This was on the stb engine.
Tons of small stuff to fix and will all be note on the survey so insurance company gets to see it.

Picked up the boat yesterday (departed 7am) and cruised it 3 hours in Atlantic (LI NY to Barnegat Inlet NJ) 3-4 ft seas with white caps. Water over the flybridge but ran great....cruised about 21 knots at 2100rpm. Very quite as compared to my old 400DA as the engines are further away. Handled well...topped off the tanks and now out of the water. Flushed the engines and gen and winterized them.

Getting ready to change oil on my 3126 Cats. Have been reading post on how to not use multi weight oils. Use straight weight 40w for south Florida. Dose this also apply for the 8kw Westerbeke Genset?

Mike is the information you have on cored hulls just for the 420 model or other models of Sea Rays?

    Thanks
    Ed

The Cat 3126 requires a specific oil that was designed based on the engines metaology requirements. I no longer have the documentation on this as I’ve sold the boat and all the info went with it.

The added cost compared to less expensive oil was not worth the savings IMHO. I ordered mine through Cat typically in quantities to perform two oil changes.

Any suggestions on carpet vs vinyl flooring in the salon? I need to replace the snap in carpet and was thinking about cutting an opening for at least the main hatch. Was thinking about vinyl floor but would end up with so many openings to finish off. Does anyone have suggestions on approach or how they addressed the multiple hatch

PO installed vinyl plank flooring below decks in my 48. Love it. No more soggy smelly carpet and a quick swifter and it’s good to go. Hatches are simply cut so that there appears to be a single board across seem (when hatch is closed). No trim work around hatches. Looks great and opens the floor plan up.

Do you happen to have any pics of the finished work? I have so many hatches in the salon. Is it glued down?

Quick question on outlets.....nice vanity/makeup counter in forward berth. Where is the 110V power outlet hidden?
Boat is cleaning up nicely. What a huge space change from my 400 Sundancer! How do you stop all the "stuff" flooding into the boat.
