BROKEN TOILET SEAT - MASTER HEAD

This weekend while out on the island with the boat - the toilet seat in the master head broke (the hinge specifically).

Has anybody had to replace?

If so what size Sealand/Dometic seat fits our boat?

Is there a way to reach the nut under the rim of the toilet seat without removing the whole toilet?

I found one at Lowes that is *almost* the exact same size. The Lowes seat is maybe a quarter inch longer, so it hangs over the edge of the bowl just a bit, but not enough to cause any problems. I was able to replace without having to remove the head, but it's tight.

@brewster16 - did you ever fix this water problem? I am having the same problem.

Hynespa, this has been an issue for a long time. However, two weeks ago I was again investigating the source of water and for the first time noticed the white corrugated hose that the bilge pump is attached to, in that compartment, had several splits in it (underside of hose and just above a square connector). Essentially the pump turns on and water pumped up and out of the boat. But some water was dribbling out the splits and back into the compartment. So I tightly wrapped the split areas with some rubberized black electrical tape until I can properly replace that hose. Low and behold next time I checked the compartment was dry. I will be rechecking it when I get back to the boat this weekend. I will report my findings.

Hey @brewster16 - I came to a very similar conclusion. I noticed when the boat was tied up at the dock and static - there was no water ... but as soon as I'd take the boat out in wavy conditions or get up on plane ... there would be water.

I tested it by taking off the lid and rapidly pouring in a large bucket of water - sure enough there was leaking coming from under the white pump out hose. It ended up taking 3-4 rounds of caulking before I successfully stopped the leak. The main challenge was seeing what I was doing with the caulk on the underside of the hose - and obviously I kept missing the spot that was leaking. Now finally it seems to be better - although the ultimate test will be an upcoming trip to Catalina Island where we will also be using the shower, etc.

So the bilge pump and hose I was talking about are in the compartment just aft of the sump box.

Looks like my starboard side multi gauge is going out - lost oil pressure and fuel....

Confirmed that I have power coming into it...

I looked on Flounder Pounder with no luck... any thoughts on other places?

Did you flip the stbd/port gauge wires to double check?? It only takes a few seconds to do once you get the dash panel screws off...

Can some one please tell me what the black square insert is in this picture? It is inline from the bilge pump corrugated white hose. Unfortunately I'm still getting an accumulation of water in this compartment. Thanks.

That's the backflow preventer, some call it a check valve
Yes, that’s what I thought it was....in any case it’s failing because after running in lumpy conditions this past weekend water is dribble back into that compartment from the corrugated discharge hose it’s on. (In addition to the splits in the corrugated line which I taped)

That happens In my forward engine room bilge in nasty beam seas, otherwise that bilge is always dry. You could try cleaning it in case there is something stuck in there causing it to leak back. Or replace it, or just live with it like I do.

How long does it take for your engine room hatch to raise to the full up position? Mine "seems" to be running slow, but the motors have plenty of power, are quiet, and not getting hot. Maybe it's just my imagination. Anybody willing to time their hatch raise time and post your results? Thanks!

Mine, too, seems to take forever. I was thinking that perhaps the motor was showing its age even though, given there are only 500+ hrs. on the engines it can't have seen that much use over the years.

@my3sons and @brewster16 - The exact same thing was happening to me after being out in the open ocean.

I traced the water to the shower sump box. As the boat was rocking and rolling in the waves the water was sloshing up around the sides of the shower sump box and was dribbling out a spot where the caulking had come undone where the the white pump out hose exits the shower sump.

After the water was getting out of the shower sump box it was then flowing through the stringers further aft to the area where that bilge pump that you mention is located.

I conclusively diagnosed this issue by removing the cover of the shower sump and taking a large bucket of water and dumping it quickly into the shower sump.

Before the sump pump could catch up and pump out the water I noted the water dribbling from where the hose exits the sump. If you have any staining underneath where the hose exits the sump that’s probably a good indication that that could be the root of the problem. I fixed it by extensively recaulking around that sump hose…

Hey @Mightychan (and @Jaybeaux and @Lovichka 420 DA ) I happened to be out at the boat today and had to go down there to check something. Here are my stats:

Open: 70 seconds
Close: 35 seconds

Has anybody ever timed how long it takes their Atwood hot water tank to finish heating (e.g. the amount of time from when the hot water breaker is turned on until the Amp draw goes back to zero?).

OK - answered my own question - the Attwood water heater takes between 35-36 minutes to heat up a tank of water (e.g. from completely cold start). I wanted to know this because sometimes while on the hook, in the morning I'll run the generator just long enough to heat up the hot water - then shut it down so I can enjoy some peace and quiet.

A while back someone talked about changing out their muffler and it was really quiet. Does anyone remember that?...did a search but too much came up
We were anchored out this weekend and ran it a couple times and it is a bit noisy.... probably more so for the people around me.
So I was thinking it might be a good winter project
