Sea Ray 420 Sundancer 2004

Anyone changed out the original Raymarine chartplotter with a Garmin Echomap UHD 93SV? If so, power question.

First pic shows the existing power cable for old Raymarine. Other pic shows the power connectors for the Garmin. Can I just cut the existing cable and "tie in" the new power or will I have to tear out old cord completely and run new cable?

Hoping for one, dreading the other.

Aussie Traveler: Top pic is original dash (sorry for thumbnail) and bottom is "new" dash after adding Garmin GPSMap 8612 xsv. I kept the old Raymarine RLC80 (that model is by memory, but it does have an 80 in it) and use it solely for displaying radar images. In order to make room for the new Garmin, I removed the TriData gauge and the Raymarine GPS. The GPS didn't work anymore as it struggled to get a fix. Sometimes it would, other times, not so much. I then moved the tachs to a vertical orientation with the 4 in 1 gauges. The engine Sync gauge is now on the starboard side above the Fire Suppression System.

Now to your question: I believe that the answer is yes, but it adds another possible failure point to your power line. I removed the old power line and connected the new Garmin directly to the DC source. I also added an Accessory Swith (which was blank) that powers my NMEA 2000 Network, Vesper AIS Transponder, and Garmin DST-800 Transduecer.

Hope that helps,

BROKEN TOILET SEAT - MASTER HEAD

This weekend while out on the island with the boat - the toilet seat in the master head broke (the hinge specifically).

Has anybody had to replace?

If so what size Sealand/Dometic seat fits our boat?

Is there a way to reach the nut under the rim of the toilet seat without removing the whole toilet?

OK guys, some background info and a question or two. Current boat is a 360DA w/ 8.1 motors. After running on a plane for four hours I feel the need to apologize to my motors. So I need diesels and would really like A/C in the cockpit.

Heading to Maryland to look at a Cruisers 460 Express and a 420DA (Between those two my wife likes the aft master stateroom over the V berth.) I prefer the 420/44. Please give me reasons why Cruisers suck (Besides that krappy proprietary pod of of switches on the starboard side of the helm and the general look and feel of the helm.)

I've read through all 134 pages of this thread.

Here's the question part: There are some differences between the 420 and the 44; (engines primarily and some interior changes like the retracting TV.) is there anything that would lead me to choose the 44 over the 420 (or vice versa)? What kinds of upgrades have people done as far as engine management or flow meter type things on the 420? I think there may have been some 420s fitted with Cummins 480C motors, do these suffer from overpropping similar to the 460DA?

I have a 2003 - looking to add davits and trying to fill out the worksheet on the Hurley site... does anyone have the measurements of the platform handy? Length, width, and height off the water?

If memory serves, I bought replacement hinges on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQO06I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They were a different color, but it fixed the Admiral's head.

Sorry if I unliked your post I clicked the wrong tab!
I had a 420 with 480CE's and they are over propped. Port engine had dropped a valve just before my purchase and I re-pitched down 2 inches to get it even close to spec.
Since that experience I have gone out of my way to buy a boat with QSC's which the 44 has. They will solve your desires for fuel management plus they don't smoke or stink as much.
I know the mechanical diesel crowd will weigh in on the problems with sensors and computers etc all of which I have not seen in the 4 common rail boats I have owned.

The flip down TV made a huge storage cabinet become available for food storage so it is a big change IMHO, as well as much larger windows. The other minor change was the door to the master is a pocket door on the 44 and is a wider opening.

As for the 450C/480CE/QSC debate that is never ending other than you need to prop the 480CE like the 450C. My wife hates diesel smell and the QSC makes nearly zero smoke at temps above 60F so that was a game changer for me.

I had my boat 5 years with no sensor issues on the QSC.

Where does everyone go for OEM SeaRay Parts? Wanting to look up a few of the littler things found on my survey yesterday. Particularly both the sunshade/privacy screens for the hatch in the master as well as the skylight in the salon. In addition to a few other things. Many thanks!

Most parts come from the original manufacturer. The shades I think came from ocean options.

HAHAHAHHA
I just did mine - must be a timed thing!! It took a month and half to get and was an amazing pain in the ass as stated by others. You have to contort yourself to get the plastic nut off and then back on. It is much easier form the left side to get both of them! Good luck.

Just arrived in Toronto on Thursday in our new-to-us 2005 420 DA, having purchased her last November from Platinum Yacht Sales in St. Clair Shores, MI. Can't say enough good things about them, in particular Skipper Bill. Took us forever it seemed to figure a way thru the closed border without risking arrest. But with patience and continual conversation with the Border Services offices on both sides, we finally figured it out.

We are in the process of mashing together the videos taken during our journey down the Detroit River to Pelee Island, onward across Lake Erie to McDonald's Turkey Point Marina (best burgers in my life at The Jetty Bar & Grill), then to our last stop at Sugarloaf Marina in Port Colborne before the final day of navigation thru the Welland Canal to our home in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

A trip to remember, my Admiral next to me, our Salty Dog at our feet. I'll post the video vignette shortly.

Question. Our engine sync worked perfectly all the way until about 1 hour from home. I press the switch as usual, push the port throttle forward as usual but instead of the port engine remaining in idle it operates as if I hadn't switched the sync on. It roars ahead. A scary surprise.

Anyone experienced this themselves and if so, is there a simple obvious remedy I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

@Lovichka 420 DA , re engine sync issue: My "methodology is to use both throttles to get the engines where I want them, say 2200 rpm. Then, I hit the "SYNC" switch, and then move the starboard throttle stick all the way to the stops. I am now "fine tuning" my rpms with the Port stick only. I was told to do it this way as it doesn't make the Glendinning Engine Synchronizer works so hard through the throttle up. Make sense?
