420/44 DB Owners Club

Thinking of getting a stern thruster. I feel I can install myself. Anyone else do this ? What size? How much? Any pics on exact location inside and if anything has to be moved?

My chart has 2200 rpm @ 61 percent load@22.8 MPH (I think) and 31 GPH going with the tide which at most would have been less than a knot because as I remember we did the run at slack tide with light winds. I think the Smart Crap was displaying in Statute at the time of the trial. My math put the MPG at .7 but in my experience whenever I was cruising over hull speed I experienced closer to .5MPG on average. At hull speed I could see 1.2 regularly.
Carpe Diem

Here's a few pictures that may be helpful:

The engine room shots were of work being done to replace the sanitation lines and seacocks so not the best, but the Vetus unit photobombed them by chance!

What can I expect a real world cruise fuel burn to be on the 420 with the 450 Diamond Series engines to be at 20-22kt speed?
Thanks!

2250 rpm on our 450 diamonds burns 14 gph each @ 24mph. Your speed may vary slightly, as it is not exactly the same boat.

Can anyone confirm if the chain that fits the windless on the 42/44 DB is a G4 5/16? I believe it is but want to %100. Would have to trudge through the snow and squeeze past the shrink wrap to check the settings on the windless.

Just happen to take a couple pics this fall. It is 5/16" (a little hard to see in the second picture).

Hi Brian, curious why you replaced your seacocks? just wondering what maintenance I should be keeping an eye open for.

They were extremely stiff and difficult to operate. Also, the overboard discharge would weep a bit of water, I suspect from winter damage. It is the second boat I have seen this on. I believe some water (or other) manages to get in the discharge line over the summer, possibly through a failing seacock that hasn't been exercised. The marina I was at would not, as a rule, open that seacock. The result is a winter freeze and damage. When they did finally open it, quite a bit of fluid came out of the line.

Possibly could have been serviced. In retrospect I wish I had pursued that possibility more.

Depending on the seacock, it may be possible to lubricate them.

Thanks. Exactly where I expected. Did you install it? I was expecting to have a brace for the motor. Is it not necessary?
Do you know what model you have?
It was a factory install. I assume a brace is not needed!

I don't know the model, unfortunately, and I won't have access to the boat for a couple of months. The only clue the parts manual gives is 7.28" ID TUNNEL, which is 185mm. That would suggest one of these:
VETUS g.r.p. stern thruster tunnel, 185 mm diameter - Stern thrusters - Thruster systems

I would call Florida Bow Thrusters, They sell and install them. My 390MY has the 95's on both ends.
These guys are great to work with and will share their knowledge and answer any questions you have.

Thinking about picking up spare props for my 420 sedan bridge with 450 Diamond engines. Currently swinging 23x26 wheels, and rpms are on target.
What's consensus of best performing make and model props for this set up?
Thanks

Can anyone confirm if tachs on an 04 42 DB/DA with mechanical 450CTA's are teleflex?

Someone else asked this question recently - still have my notes handy. When I looked into it the dealer came back with Foria P/N 1767752 ~$300 ea. (original PN was 1540749).
