420/44 DB Owners Club

The cummins motors are one of the best, a lot of problems come from the boat manufacturer. My boat was over propped. This is my first diesel boat and I was nervous about buying this boat. Between this site and seaboard you will have as much information as a cummins tech. When all the maintenance is done you will be happy to push the switch and hear them purr
I cant wait till spring!

My wife already packed all her summer shoes
I am having to unpack the boat only to carry back and pack the new boat when we get it in our slip. Geez, never realized how much stuff was on board!

Can you put the new boat in the slip next to the old one?
Would make the move easier.
Not sure if old boat be here, its unreal. cannot believe how the mrkt is. We have a deposit , however we can accept a larger offer. Have a couple coming from Mich tomorrow that knows this. our boat is in very good condition but i never expected it to sell so easily.
can't wait to make the 44 ours.

We sold our 33 sundancer last june. The day the boat left the dock I also sold the dinghy and my dockominium . It was good but strange. Good luck

Do your self a favor. Take everything home first and then take only to the boat what you will need when you need it. You will be amazed at how much stuff you keep on the boat that you really don't need. Also coming from the 390 MY to the 44, you may be disappointed by how little storage there is on the 44:(. I never found the lack of storage to be a problem for me as It was mostly just my wife and I on the boat. Just need to be smart about what to keep on board is all.
Glad to hear you are finally getting close to enjoying the 44, we really did enjoy ours.

We absolutely love our 07 44. Tuned the props and new bottom paint last Dec. Still hit 2660 top end RPM but the ride is like a Cadillac now. Next week, we are having all the cooling components serviced on both engines. Gonna be spendy for sure but having piece of mind for 3 to 4 years will be priceless!

I did that last winter, big job but not as difficult as I was lead to fear. With everything you have done to your boat you should be set for a trouble free season!

Just thing with the new Carver you can do it all over again.
What does she have for power?
Volvo 480hp 74TAMD-p, the seller had the entire fresh water cooling system serviced in 2019 replacing one precharge cooler core and both oil coolers. So I should be good for a few years.

Presto XL 500 hydraulic lift project complete.

To a Cummins tech, perfect may be 2600 rpm, which is rated WOT rpm. "Almost perfect" could be less than that 2600 figure, the numbers should be in your survey report.
Per the Seaboard web site mentioned above, the motors should be propped to turn up 2700+ rpm with full fuel and water loads and all you "stuff" on board. You may want to hold off spending money on props that you may have to repitch at a later date until you know for sure what the loaded WOT rpms are as you use the boat. Hopefully you won't need spares right from the get-go.
I can’t recall exact RPM’s but eteeen 2600 and 2700. 4 adults, fuel and water about half or a little more.

That lift looks grate. Everything above the water line.
I need one just can’t decide what to go with. We don’t always take the dinghy with us and frequently just swim off the back.

The lift actually doesn't really take up any usable space. It adds a level of safety from slipping or falling of the back of the boat. Once the dingy is deployed its literally out of the way. Climbing the ladder after swimming, the starboard lift can act as support as you climb out. . Have a kayak, you can sit in it and deploy via the lift or exit with no fear of flipping it.

Test ran the boat today with the dingy on the lift. Zero movement and solid as a rock. Super happy with the investment in fun.

That's the struggle I have, I like a clean platform for the 80 percent of the time I use my boat with out needing the dinghy to go with us. The dinghy lives on a floating dock next to the boat. I love the Presto since it is all above water. I would like to figure out if it could relatively easily be removed when not needed. I've seen the ones on the rail system and it seems that with quick disconnects on the hydraulic lines and a slight modification to the lift arms it could be done.

Not sure how to jump right in so here it goes. I know this is off topic from the previous posts, however my 06 44 Sedan Bridge is listing at the dock about four inches to the starboard side. Not sure why. I just brought it to its home marina, about ten miles from where I purchased it and Water was also making its way up the starboard cockpit engine hatch drain hole. I’m thinking the two issues are related? Saw some posts from several years ago and several owners had the issue but there was no conclusion. Thoughts?
Did you ever get replies? My 420 does the same thing. I think (hope) it's just a bad weight balance thing by Sea Ray.

Have you checked your stringers for trapped water? There are dozens of posts on this thread concerning this. Go back and search through them and you will have an eye opening as to the listing issue possibly.

Thanks for the reply. I did look at them and the stringer water source theory seemed in-conclusive. I have it on the hard and winterized right now with the flybridge shrink-wrapped and a camper canvas over the cockpit...still getting fresh water in the bilge. Completely confused over that one.
