420/44 DB Owners Club

Gaugesaver appears to deal only in LCD gauges. Looking for repair of regular gauges....thanks!

Have you messaged them? May be worth a try.

These are by far the best led lights, direct replacement from the halogen lights. Warm white is as bright and warm as halogen. Noticeably brighter than the disk version. And the price is right. Been usinging these for 5 years between two boats and never an issue. View attachment 98482
Have been using these for the past 2 years. Swapped out all the interior bulbs and I've had about 5 go bad in that time frame. Not a big deal as they are cheap enough, but just a pain to get to some of the receptacles.

Where do we stand with the Carver ? You don’t have to wait for spring like us north east boaters.
Moving forward. Been on the hard for a week and they have yet to start on the bottom. The yard I am using is top notch and very professional but they still use labor for sanding and bottom paint that is less reliable. I am next in line but when the worker bees don't show, nuttin gets done. The yard is really liberal about allowing owners to work on the boat while its in the yard even giving full access after hours and weekends 24/7 so I have been taking care of a few housekeeping items. I removed the bow thruster motor and completely cleaned and applied corrosion inhibitor to it and reinstalled. Works like a charm so dodged that bullet. Hoping to get back in the water and in its slip by the end of next week. We finally are getting rain in CA. Of course we get an atmospheric river over us when I most need it to be dry. Now really what we will be waiting for is the bank and law office to get the transfer finished.

Congrats on the purchase. You need to start a new thread on the Yachts section so we can follow your progress. Remember must have pictures or it didn’t happen. Who cares it’s a Carver we are all boating lovers here. Looking forward to seeing your upgrades.

Wow that's to bad, luck of the draw. Between two boats and near 75 replacements to these LED. Zero issues. Maybe spread the two prongs slightly to get a tighter fit... ?

Well my led’s arrived from amazon today. My plan was to have breakfast then go down to the boat and try them out. It’s a nice sunny day but the temp was 8 degrees with a light breeze out of the north. The box of led’s is now in my tool box in the warm garage. Maybe next week.

Good idea. Those retaining clips snapping your fingers are amplified when they’re cold...

Does anyone have any idea about the cost to have the impellers changed on a 06 44DB including the jenny.
Power by the QSC 500

The Onan gen is super easy. The starboard engine is super easy. The port engine is harder than the both of the above are easy....I did mine myself. Laying across the port engine and working upside down is something I would never do again...I would get Cummins to do it....

I would think a yard wouldn’t charge more than 2 hours labor for all 3. If your access on the port is similar to the 450C, that may be an hour by itself. Having done this a few times on our 320 I’d say it’s not that bad.

Does anyone know what size packing is used on the rudders ?
Now is the time to repack the rudders as the new generator is not installed yet.
Thanks

Ok thanks. The upholstery guy here in Morehead City says about $4500 to redo both and he suggested would be cheaper to get factory replacements. So I’m trying to find them and their cost
How did you get on with sourcing those seats?

Hi, All
I thought I would share my latest big project. I am adding a hydrolic lift to my 44. After a long thought process around brand, functionality and price, I choose the Presto Lift 500. My tender is a 11ft Apex with a 25hp Tahotsu. My boat yard is doing a great job on the install. I asked them to get certified as an installer and they agreed. The stainless deck plate is my custom option to dress it up and the motor I asked to be mounted via a custom bracket to position it 100% out of the way under the swim step. They are adding a stand alone battery to operate it. Should be done Monday.

Looks great Mark! I am trying to decide what I want to do to replace the davit on the 506. Its a 450 lb capacity davit and is just an eyesore on the boarding platform. I am thinking of something like the Presto or even a Hurley with an extension to keep the dink off the platform. I don't need it to store the dink just to take with us a few times a year so actually platform encroachment is not that big of a deal to me. That presto system is so clean and I like the idea of nothing is permanently in the water. It looks like one could do the install in the water too?

What can I expect a real world cruise fuel burn to be on the 420 with the 450 Diamond Series engines to be at 20-22kt speed?
Thanks!

I had the 44 DB with 500 QSCs but the fuel burn should be similar. At 22 ? I was burning about 31 gph at RPM.
This is from a table I created recording performance. I did not note though if it was in statute or knots on my chart.
Depending on how you are propped your results may be a bit better.

So Carpe u was getting ~.81 mile per gallon, that about right?
