420/44 DB Owners Club

These are long and it's a very tight fit. You have to push the bulb to make sure it goes inside the reflector all the way in. Every MM counts. Some ended up clearing the lenses, some touch them. I don't see an issue as these are LEDs and don't generate much of the heat.

If you're concerned with the size, you'll have to settle for something smaller with less brightness (3-4K).

Thanks.

On the off chance I need replacement gauges, any idea what those cost?
Not so sure these gauges are available any longer. I looked into it when we first purchased the boat and if I remember correctly it was around $450usd. In the end I haven't changed mine but will consider it as part of the electronics upgrade - most are moving to the electronic versions.

If you do find a source, pls let us know.

Are they the Mercury System Link gauges for diesel? if so I have two 4 in 1 and two tach's that were on my 2006 DB. I can get the P/N's next time in the shop if interested.

Since I'm still in buying process I don't have old ones to check part numbers and such. I found them in the link posted above so I could find the door pulls.

Has anyone installed the larger flush mounted transducers (3-3/4” hole) into the bottom of a 420 instead of the standard “football” transducers that stick out 2” into the water flow? The model I’m talking about is
B164 1kW Tilted Element 20 Degree - 8-Pin
I’ve had them on smaller outboard powered center consoles but have not looked into our larger inboard powered vessels having them. If all surveys come back clean enough and I pick up this boat I’ll need to update electronics including installing a new transducer so I can paint the bottom picture for the summer fishing trips. But would rather not add any more drag and associated side effects.

I’m trying to I.D the brand and colors of the upholstery on my 2008 model 44. I’m especially curious to identify the beige color used for the accents. The color I am comparing it too in the second photo is Omnova Boat Fuzzy Back Vinyl 50486312DB | Sea Ray Taupe which I was told was the color I needed - but wasn’t... Or is it? And it’s just faded and sun bleached ...

I found my original notes. Local Sea Ray dealer said they were Faria gauges and I have two part numbers: 1540749 (no longer available) and 1767752. Price estimate was $300 (not sure if that was cdn or usd).

At the time, there was not a way to update the new hr meter to match the hours on the old (it starts over again from zero). Couple inputs I was given were 1. keep the old so you provide on sale to 'prove' the hours, or 2. have a marina do the swap and have them record the hours on the work order. If I was buying, I'd prefer #1.

If it were me I’d pull them both and get them repaired and refurbished. Lots of companies do it.

I'm looking at preliminary survey report. A couple things I wanted to ask here about.

It says the that fire suppression system needs servicing as it's past due the annual service. Honestly I forgot to look for the green light at the helm station to also check it operational and I'm too far away from boat to just go check on it. So assuming it's working and otherwise system integrity is good, can anyone tell me a ballpark of what it would cost to get it up to date? I've not had to deal with these before so please excuse my lack of knowledge here.

One other potentially big deal to me...a crack found on the starboard side of the cabin aft of the window, and appears to be delaminating slightly, with moisture present along with some mold. States that proper repair of crack should be performed. Is this type issue common in this model boat? I'm waiting to talk to surveyor hopefully tomorrow and also try to get picture of the crack and see how big it is and what it may entail getting it repaired, and how soon does it need addressing.

Of course he brought up the "dancing" tachs which are not working properly and wrote possible wiring issue.

Any quick help on the above really appreciated so I can decide if continue ahead with this boat and if so do I need further price reductions.

These are by far the best led lights, direct replacement from the halogen lights. Warm white is as bright and warm as halogen. Noticeably brighter than the disk version. And the price is right. Been usinging these for 5 years between two boats and never an issue.

There was a thread recently about the Halon fire systems. Halon is no longer being produced but apparently there are fire extinguisher service companies that can recycle your product and reuse it after the pressure test and recharge. Find a local fire extinguisher company and they should be able to help. The alternative is replace the bottle with the current system for a boat buck or two.
Gel coat cracks are not uncommon on these boats and not a big deal to repair either as DIY or professionally. The longer you wait the bigger the issue will get. If ti is growing mold then water is intruding and can spread. Not an emergency but not something you want to ignore either.

Where do we stand with the Carver ? You don’t have to wait for spring like us north east boaters.
