390 EC complete restoration thread

What exactly was the problem with your shower drain leak Pietro? Did the pipe come loose fron the drain fitting or did the pipe crack? We do not have a problem at this point in time, but I do want to keep an eye on it just the same.

Ken, the drain fitting itself came loose from the shower floor! So water was seeping through the floor and the rim of the drain fitting. The pipe and the fitting were fine.

Is that a Borel raw water flow alarm? Good idea...
Didn't know you installed flo-scans! Curious- where did you find the room to mount the pulsation dampers?

....

Mike, that's how I managed to install the Flo-Scans:

As mentioned it’s not finished.... I think I have finally found a solution for the infamous Sea Ray Tambour doors. The original ones are made from a kind of paper/cardboard multilayer thing that sucks humidity...
After some search I found these bamboo carpets. Yes they are carpets, not cabinet doors...

This is the result. On the left the new bamboo and on the right the original tambour. I like the colour of the bamboo as it is lighter and fits better the new clear interior. The bamboo is thinner than the original thing and it slides definitely better.

The bamboo looks shiny. But it's not that shiny, it's the camera flash!

Nice install!

The "carpet" for the tambour doors is downright ingenious. Replacement tambour is ridiculously priced...
That should be a "sticky" for anyone with an '80's cruiser- they all need replacement.

Ditto the 330 doors in the aft cabin and galley.

Did the bamboo mats fit easily into the existing plastic Sea Ray track and roll up hardware system without any problems Pietro? Do they slide just as easy? Yours look great and ours are looking tired and dated. I will put this on our 2011 list of upgrades. I have a whole page of projects for next year.

Ken, they fit perfectly with no modification to the tracks!!!
The bamboo looks and works as it is the real replacement and slides incredibly well!!! I love it!!!

Pietro, what you've accomplished is just absolutely fantastic! You've really transformed that boat into something amazing. The colors and designs you've chosen really look great together. It's very inspiring to read through your thread. Great job... and I, too, am looking forward to more pictures!!!:smt001

Thanx buddy, we will keep our eyes open for some mats and this will definitely be one of our Spring projects.

Pietro: Can you give some more information on the bamboo? Like, a link to the source.

Also--How do you get it the correct size (ie: height and length)? Do you remove the strips on the bottom and top, cut to the correct length and height and then re-install the strips?

And then, you install it by removing the tracks with the cabinets in place? Bit@h of a job!

Come over here and do mine when you have a day off.

Years ago, I had a company that did retail store renovations and we worked with various tambour products. To cut the solid materials, we would tape the surface on the cut line and we would use a blade normally used for cutting melamine. When we would run it through the table saw, we would take an extra precautionary measure to help eliminate the tambour material from chattering by holding down the material onto the table saw bed with a piece of 3/4" plywood. The cuts always came out perfect.

Jerry, I bought the bamboo carpets at a home improvement retailer here in Italy, something like your Home Depot, not online.
You should google for “bamboo carpets” or “bamboo blinds or shades”. I did some search for you and found this: It looks exactly like the ones I bought!

You have to remove the upper plastic track only .Take out the old tambour door and use it as a template to cut the new one. You may need to remove some of the bamboo no-slip back liner in correspondence of the tracks.
Remove the handle and the wood strip at the edge of the tambour and fix them on the new door. Put the new tambour back in the lower track, put on the upper track and you are done!
I’ll be coming, don’t’ worry... I hope to make it for the Miami boat show

Good Info from both.
Keep us posted if you decide to come to Miami, Pietro. Probably a lot of CSR members in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

Pietro: You changed your dash color. Do you recall what you used as a paint? I want to change mine to gray tone. Update: An autobody shop owner that I know referred me to a collision paint supplier that has the product that I am looking for.

I am wondering about the aluminum dash. Is the printing on the dash painted on or is it decals that were placed on the aluminum? Your picture looks like the words are printed directly onto the material.

Did I read this thread correctly? A single guy with a boat like that? Man....if that isn't a "chick magnet" I don't know what is.

Awesome job Pietro......that is a beautiful boat.
