240 DA Instability ( Part DEUX )

*** Serious on-topic reply – the best I personally can offer ***

Capnjohn,

I previously had a 240DA. Although the current model may be tipsier, my 1998 Suncancer was also tipsy. I believe it to be inherent to the size and style of boat.

In the 1998 model the driver’s seat was a small bench. Once I got the boat level I could actually throw the boat off level by sliding my 6’2†240# of human ballast to one side of the seat or the other.

What I found helpful was to trim as high as possible w/out causing cavitations or prop venting then tab light as light as possible. At any given moment, one tab should be fully retracted, meaning you press the down button and hold it until the tab is fully up. Then balance with the other tab as needed.

The above gets your bow out of the water and the stern in the water as far as possible. This widens the water footprint at the stern and improves stability slightly.

I readjusted the tabs often. Each time a crew member relocated their seating location or each time I changed course I would need to readjust. Keep in mind that you will always be going back to only one tab button unless it gets 100% retracted and you need more adjustment. Only then do you touch the controls for the other tab.

In time the process became second nature to me like riding a unicycle.

I offer this, based on your question and my own personal experience in hopes of helping you.

Summary:
- Once you plane, trim the drive as far as possible w/out causing cavitations or prop venting.
- Start with both tabs fully retracted (up) meaning you press the buttons down.
- Make all adjustments with only one tab. At any given moment, one tab stays 100% retracted.
- Re-adjust often.

Hope it helps.

just kidding. so why are we doing this again?

I said I would play because you took a part of a private conversation we were having and posted it out of context. Which made me waste several minutes of my evening putting the rest of the conversation in this thread. Should I be frustrated?

Should you be frustrated about responses of wings and a 280 riding well? I don't know what a 280 has to do with your boat so I personally would have read right past a response like that, but maybe an owner of a 280 would read your thread too and that post might actually be helpful to them. Somebody asking about wings is actually helpful. It is applicable to the conversation to know if you have tried a wing or not.

If I were you I would not get frustrated, simply move past the answers you don't like. By responding to them you will simply get more answers you don't like.

capnjohn: It's been fun playing with you this evening. You've entertained many of us for hours. Unfortunately we've grown bored with you. You are the weakest link -- goodbye!

I have a question.

CaptnJohn, do you really own a 240DA? No picture in the virtual marina. No signature in your posts.

Of your 23 posts all have to do with one thought, to bring 240DA owners to your thread. :smt017

I smell a troll. :smt009

1998 jeep wrangler stability problem

I have a 1998 jeep wrangler and when I go around a sharp turn and hit a bump, my jeep bounces and scares the beejesus out of me. When I drive my GF'ds car (small mazda) it doesn't do this. it's the same size car in length and width but it handles the curves much better. I know that jeep makes a 4 door wrangler now and several other models that don't do this, but it does this with the jeep I have. why can't I have an offroad vehicle and still make sharp turns like my GF'ds mazda? Don't respond if you have a 4 door jeep.

OK, if all you want to talk to are 240 owners 06 or newer, the go to the virtual marina on this site and do a search for this boat. Possibly PM'ing the owners of these particular boats and speak with them one on one. Posting to a public forum just doesn't seem to be working out for you...

It’s inherent to the Jeeps. We had a Jeep stroller we use to put the kids in and go for walks around the block and it did the exact same thing.

Obvious design flaw.

240 DA

to thunderbird;

By george I think you finally have got it- Your 260 DA is not a 240 DA, and therefore, well, goodbye and good luck.

To Stilbolts:

I actually do own a 240 DA.....do you really think I would be spending time talking about it if I did not actually own one???

what size was your boat again? if it's not a 2006 or newer 240 DA, please do not respond. Have a nice evening......

I said don't respond if you don't have a 98 wrangler. not interested in your stroller problems. I want my jeep to perform like my GF'ds mazda.

240 DA

Jim.......the guy is now telling me about his jeep.

another guy wants pictures.....me, the wife, the kids.......

Jim- can you please explain to these fellas what this post is all about?

2 4 0 D A owners 2006 and newer only.........Instability problems-

TurtleTone, Here is an idea. Mount a hook on the top of the roof. Run a line from the hook to the inside of the bend of the corner. Tie the line onto something like a fire hydrant or what ever is there.

The line will stop your jeep from tipping over.

Jim, 240's don't have anything to do with my jeep problems. 98 wrangler, I want to turn corners at 60 mph and not feel it. I'm going to write jeep and get this issue fixed. don't hijack my thread you boat owner you. I've driven cars for 30 years, I know how cars are supposed to handle. when I see a sign that says "40mph" around a curve, I expect my jeep to be able to do that. then I hit a bump in the road and it bounces all over the place. sure you big sedan guys think your superior to me, I don't want to hear that.
