I own a new 2006 240 Sundancer with the Bravo 3 outdrive. I have owned many boats, but this one is very instable. At speed, the boat will list to either port or starboard, and the trim tabs have to be constantly tweaked to keep the boat level- Without constant attention, the boat will tip to one side and the severity of the list makes it feel as though the boat will tip over.

The only way to stop the tipping is to back the boat down to where is it barely on plane.

This condition is much worse as the gas tank is emptied through normal use- below half a tank, it is much worse.

I purchased a Stingray Hydrofoil piece for the lower unit, but it did not help to correct the problem.

This past weekend on Lake Michigan, in following 3-5' seas, it was a nightmare with every larger swell seeming to tip the boat.

I am interested in anyone's suggestions as to how they have resolved the problem....

Thanks

Geez... thought I was having an attack of deja vu..

Dude... didn't you just get voted off the island?

Oh boy, here we go again.... OK, the question appears to be open to anybody this time, but please do not give the incorrect answer. Only respond if you have the correct answer.

Got this message from the Jim The administrator.......guess this site is all about "regulars" who have already "made the rules "

Who are you to come into a playground full of regulars and make rules? You are on a public forum, if you want answers from owners of specific boats then go directly to those owners. Don't ask the public!

John, I'll play...

ME: John, please refrain from the constant arguing. This site is intended to be an enjoyable place where you can share ideas with all kinds of people. Because of that you sometimes have to weed through the posts until you get the advice you want. If you are here to simply bash Sea Ray you can certainly find better places to do it other than a Sea Ray enthusiasts site. Thanks for joining, but please keep future posts friendly.

----------------------------

YOU: Jim,

since you are the admistrator, I guess that my frustration should be aimed at you.

The point of my first and last ever post on this site was to contact other 240 DA 2006 and newer owners......

What I got was a whole lot of garbage from people who don't know how to read.

I am not here to simply bash Sea Ray, and this post was not useless- There are many people who have contributed who are A. ) intelligent enough to understand what it means to a be a current owner of a 2006 or newer 240 DA, and B.) can articulate their experiences with this defective hull.

Since you obviously responded to what you considered to be offensive, why oh why did you not chastize the morons who were writing on the post who did not meet the criteria?????

YOU: sorry, i didn't know this was a "private" club....I will be sure to share that with the other posts that i am also participating in.....I am so sorry to have bothered you.

----------------------------

ME: I just told you it was a public forum, and you translate that to a "private club". Guess I can't argue with that logic.

All you had to do was ask for the secret hand shake and we would

have gven you the key to the executive head. Now you've gone

and ruined it for everyone.

Am I wrong here or was this post highjacked by the origonal poster????

240 DA

Jim,

You said many things, including that you want to "Play"

Good- how about you "play" by reading the original post. This post is a a cut and paste replica of the original post.

Read the "contributions" that were made op the last thread and see if you don't get a little frustrated too.

An administrator who is as ready to "play" as you say you are should be able to see why a guy like me would be frustrated with comments like ' MY 280 IS JUST SOOOO STABLE", or " HOW ABOUT ADDING WINGS?"

May as well lock this one up too Jim, looks like a storms a brewin'...

Do not give into temptation...I don't think I have used that once since Brumil....

I can't keep up. I'm on dial up dang it.

capnjohn is just looking for some support and hopefully some answers. I too want the same thing. Come on man, there are to many questions asking about ones ability to handle ones boat. If the answer was that simple don't you think a guy who has been boating 31 years has some ability and experience at boat control.
How many have come forward and expressed the same feelings. Lets work together and try to find a solution.

caaptjohn: Thank goodness you're back. When you said "Good luck suckers- what a waste of time..." I thought you had packed your bags. So do you have any kids? What is your occupation? Where do you live?

I'm currious, when you trim your outdrive up, is your 240 DA more stable?

CapnJohn

What exactly are you looking to do here? Are you really looking for advice or are you trying to draw a crowd in hopes of getting sympathy.

There are only a few 240DA owners on the board and those that have responded either figured out how to handle the boat or are still working out the learning curve.

I will offer two pieces of advice.

1. Take the hydra-foil off the Bravo 3. It is a waste of money. The B3 was designed not to ever use one of those.
2. Don't let your passengers move around the boat when it is in motion. That is seaman ship 101 in a small boat. And yes the 240 is a small boat.

And finally have you considered you are over correcting the trim tabs? You don't have visual indicators showing what position they are in, maybe the investment of a the Bennett Indicators might be a wise choice.

240 DA Instability

My "beef" is that this should be a vey easy thing to do- All I ever asked was that owners of 240 DAs 2006 and newer contribute their experiences with instability in their boats. How difficult is that to understand?

What I got was a lot of useless comments from people who should have never spoken a word.

On the upside, there have been many who wrote that they too have the same boat as I, and are frustrated with the performance of the hull as well.

The one thing I don't think you understand is that your experience with your boat is not what I am interested in. I am sure you have many tales to tell, but I don't want to hear them right now. This is not about the 280 DA, the 380 Da the 42" DA or whatever.....

If you were a current or past owner of a 2006 or newer 240 DA, and you were experiencing instability problems, then you should contribute. understand?
