220 DA thread

Yes, there is a drain on mine. You should see it up front on the port side. Well, that's where mine is...

We have a drain from the anchor locker. You should be able to see a small vent cover on the hull. It may be worth checking the drain hole is not blocked if there is sealant loose in the locker.
I dont know if it is the same on your boat as ours but in the head on your boat is there a drain in the floor? If so then the shower bilge is the means of pumping the water from this drain. It is just in front of the aft cabin under a removable plinth.

OK, glad to hear the locker drain was normal. Kinda thought it was but you never know what previous owners do...

No, there's no drain in the head. But what youre talking about seems like maybe it would be used in a different model. Here's a pic:

The black is a spray sealant. I removed most of that and generously spread some 3m over the seam. Water was actually slowly seeping through the rear "wall' of that little compartment. On the other side of the "wall" is what I think is the fuel tank. The 2 white dics you can see in the pic are access to lines to the fuel tank. I'm pretty sure the forward one is a vent line.

since we're talking about water in the shower bilge. I do not have the shower option in my 89 220DA. I do have a little door that flips up at the entrance to the aft cabin. I often find this compartment filled with water. sometimes it overflows onto the main floor. I think it is coming from rain. We just got lots of rain and the boat is in the driveway (still). So I'll check it. I cannot figure out where this might be coming from.

Wish I could help, but I'm "in the same boat" here ...
Boat is also in the driveway here (several weeks between storage outs them and the marina wants them...) batteries out (still on trickle chargers in garage) - drain plug pulled and boat kept at a slight bow-high angle and covered. After the first heavy rain I had a hunch, checked the sump and it was full to the top. Grabbed my handy turkey baster (most used tool on the boat) and ~1-1/2 gals. later she was empty. Checked cabin - nothing else wet. Definitely no one showering. Checked again after next heavy rain - same thing. Ok, has to be coming in from the rain - but where?. This pattern has run several times - cleaning out after every rain. Now there was a couple days without rain and we're cleaning, waxing, getting her ready to splash. Check sump while cleaning cabin - another 1/2 gal or so. Cabin is otherwise bone dry. Since I do have a drain on the anchor locker (and just about everywhere else - the step down in the cockpit, etc.) I can't fathom where this is coming from. Feeling around the sump I can't even tell if there is a drain hole from the front or back (with the gas tank compartment behind it I can't imagine there being one in case of leakage) running into the sump. Now when the batteries are in the float switch and pump keeps it manageable, but I'm still wondering where it comes from. Any ideas would be great...

After I pulled the bow railings off and re-bed them with 5200 and new hardware, no problems...

I'll check the rails and reseal. I have no pump in my sump. No shower. I guess there must be something feeding this, but I cant see, just feel.

Hi 220ish owners!!!! I am glad to see action on this thread again. I have read that several of you have anchor lockers. My boat is missing this option. So we purchased an anchor roller and lock to store the anchor. Have any of you attempted this???? Also if you don't have an anchor locker--where do you store your anchor?

All I have is a locker for the rode also, there is a mirror up front that is hinged to gain access to the locker.

I bought a windlass and a roller also, problem is I can't get the bow roller far enough forward so the anchor clears the boat on the way up. The one I have is 22" long and needs to be probably another 4".

I've been kicking around the idea of a windlass but havent made the move. I'm just not sure I want to spend that much $$. Can you tell us aboutthe one you got and how well it works?
Thanks for the info on the roller. I was planning on adding that this year and I wouldnt have iknown the 22" wont work.

Mark

Here is the windlass. I didn't buy it from E-Bay, got it from a local place that was going out of business.

Here is the roller. This I did get from that E-Bay store.

Maybe it wasn't 22", or it needs to be 22":smt100 I can measure again, home today so I can finish waxing and get the bottom painted.

It was last fall when I was messin around with it. I am going to have a friend slice and dice it to make it work. And then have it powder coated. I just never found one narrow / sleek enough with the length. The problem is the bow of the boat. The angle above the rub rail pushes the roller back.

This is a priority for this year! Our oldest will be driving soon and working, so my anchor buddy might not be around much. The wife is nervous being on the bow and all that is left is the 5 year old. Where we anchor is in a tidal river with a moderate current at times and BUSY on the weekends.

Thats not a bad price for the windlass. That roller is about 20", should I shoot for a 24"?

Let me get some pics of the one I have held in place with the tape measure.

I got the bottom painted today, but had to run out and cut some grass. I hope to launch on Sunday.

220 DA Bench

Hi everyone:
I'm a new boater, our 1989 220 DA is our first boat ever so I was very pleased to come across this forum and especially this thread - I've picked up a lot of information already! I also already have a question/request...
Our boat has a bench seat across the transom which obviously is supposed to fold out onto the engine hatch. There's a back which lifts up, the the seat folds forwards and four legs fold down. The problem is, it appears to have been badly repaired at some point; the hinges are attached to a sheet of plywood which doesn't let it sit flat on the deck. It looks like some creative work with a saw could allow this to work, it has just been put together incorrectly. If anyone could take and post some pictures of the folding mechanism on their seat so I have some idea of how it's supposed to work I'd be most indebted.
Thanks in advance!
Bobby

Hey Mark

Did you get a chance to take those pictures. Really interested in seeing them if you have.

Cheers

Dan

Sorry Dan, got it floating but never did any pics or an install. :smt021 Just been too busy with some other projects. I'll see what I can do for ya this weekend. After 9am on Saturday, I am free... (I hope my wife dosen't see this)

Marckmann-
I also owned a 1990 220 DA. Probably one of the sweetest running boats I have owned. You will really enjoy the extended swimplatform. To get really cool install some underwater LED's.
Enjoy the boat.

No worries Mark. Better in the water then sitting in a driveway :) . Don't put yourself out on my account. I hear ya about being busy.

Cheers

Re: 220 DA Bench

Hi:
I am attaching some pictures of my rear bench seat. The first shows it neatly stowed away, the second shows how far you can pull it out, and the third shows how the plywood is attached to the underside of the seat. Looking at it, I think that if I shorten the piece of plywood, attach it correspondingly lower on the seat, and bevel the edge so that it can fold to a greater angle when the seat is down, it should work. I'd sure appreciate any advice from anyone with a similar seat, though.
Thanks,
Bobby
