220 DA thread

Finally sold my 1990 220 DA last week. (Now, I can afford the payments on my "new" 240 DA.)

The new owner actually "traded down" from his 1988 230 DA because he said the 220 had better features and handled much better than his older boat.

Almost simultaneously, someone else berthed a 220 DA a couple of slips away. We were both wondering what year it is. Mine had separate red & green navigational lights, while the new one had a single, multi-colored one in the bow. Can anyone help us out on this?

Please delete the duplicate posts above. When posting earlier this morning, I kept getting an error msg to send the post later, when in fact, it actually did post. Sorry for the confustion.

Rock , there is no "behind the wall "...that is the hull of the boat. also my nav lights are together on the tip of the bow.

i have a 220da, just wondering what the storage space under the helm seat is for? mine has 2 screw in caps about 4" dia, i was thinking for rope maybe.

Not sure...I don't keep anything there....what year and engine do you have ?

By the way welcome to Club Sea Ray !

I just finished my rebuild of a old galvanized roller trailer. It fit almost perfect the first time putting it on. I had to move the winch post about 10" towards the front of the trailer.

What I need from the others that trailer their 220... The center line between the 2 axles, where does that fall in relation to the boat. I can tell that I need to slide the axles back, but not sure how far back to go.

I just measured ( original trailer bought with the boat ) 63 inches from where the trim tab attaches to the bottom of transom to centerline between tires.

Damn, that was fast... :smt038

Do you trailer all the time?

I aim to please.

I just measured, mine is at 80" :smt021 Looks like I have a little more work too do. :smt089

My first post - Anyone still checking this thread? My 220DA has been in the family since '91, it's been a great boat! Can't wait for the sun to return to the NW and splash her.

welcome ! they are great boats...i just sold mine to move up in size...had a lot of fun on my '90 220da !

Looks like you moved up a few sizes! Nice looking boat you got there!

Hey, I just found this thread and finished reading through the whole thing. Lots of good info here. So, I'll keep it alive! I've got a '94 230 Sundancer, by what I've read here, it's very close to the other boats in this thread. She's my first boat so I'm still learning and cussing a lot along the way. I've got tons of questions too. Biggest one is that I'm finding that buying custom aftermarket or replacement parts is a lot easier said than done. Anyone have any recommendations? I'd really like to replace my cabin windows with some of the newer style polished frame/clear glass ones. Only one's I've found are about $400 each and I'm not really sure if they'll fit or not.

I'm also in an ongoing battle to figure out where all my leaks are. I've resealed the cabin windows and checked the bow railing. I think I'm getting water in through the anchor locker. I'll be tackling that tomorrow.

Also, (I'm going to try to describe this the best I can) at the entrace (opening) to the aft cabin bed area, there's a roughly 3'x3' floor panel that can be unscrewed. At first it almost looks like its supposed to be extra under-storage as it creates a small cubby while it's still screwed in. Well, I noticed that after it rained it always had water down there. I always assumed (yes I know...) that water was collecting there from somewhere else. Well, come to find out, water was actually slowly seeping through the fiberglass "wall" between the fuel tank and the cabin area. Does thiat make sense so far? So, I got a bunch of sealant and gooped it up real good. Voila! No more leak. But now I'm wondering, did I just trap water back there? So I took a ver small drill bit and made a small hole, being very careful not to go too far and into the fuel tank, to see if I could drain any remaining water. Well, it didnt come rushing out like I thought it would but it would VERY slowly seep through the new hole. It would accumulate to a few cups worth of water over the course of an hour or 2. Did this for quite a while. Anyone else heard of this? I'm really confused on this one. Wheres the water getting in there? The bilge area?

Sorry about the long post... Thanks!

Hi there fropleyquark, got our Sundancer 220DA last October so still finding my way around her so I apologise now if I am way off! At the entrance to our aft cabin there is a removable panel (roughly 3"x10") which gives you access to the bilge pump for the shower. This is tapered and as the float switch is quite high, a lot of water remains in the bilge. It may be worth checking that this is not leaking through into the area you described. I am keen to lift the panel on our boat to see if there is any extra storage potential where you describe, I always assumed it was just a cover for the fuel tank. Might be worth checking your nav lights as we had a leak through there, it looked as if one had been removed and the self tapping screws put back incorrectly so now they cannot be tightened.

No, not really. I keep hearing shower bilge but I dont have a shower? It's not actually a panel to the fuel tank, I'll have to take a picture.

On a different note, I got the bow railing fixed today! Very happy about that. Then I moved onto the anchor locker. Cleaned it out and water tested. Yeah, it lets lots of water in. Here's my question, Is the locker supposed to have a drain to the outside? Seems like water could get in just as easy. Right now Im waiting to see if the water in the anchor locker will seep into the boat like I think it will. I removed a huge chunk of 3/4" thick sealant from the bottom of the locker. It was peeling off on its own anyway. Man the bugs are bad today... I hate sand fleas.
