220 DA thread

Rock ,
I just measured at the deck pipe.....1 inch thick. I also just finished installing a manual toilet and holding tank if you want some pics.

I'd love to talk to you about the toilet job. Especially your routing for the intake and waste. My boat is in the water. I cant drill a hole in the hull till this winter. I was thinking of using the A/C seacock. I never use the A/C anyway and I doubt it would interfere if I did. Routing hoses and wires is the biggest challenge for me on the boat upgrades.

Any info would be great.

seat and swim platform

The swim platform is great. It is not a giant trim tab. I have noticed no difference in the performance of the boat while moving. I have noticed a great difference while anchored. We have so much room now. The ladder is now under the platform and in the middle. We don't have to work around it anymore. I feel as if I have gained lots of square footage on the back in of the boat. From the looks of the swimplatform you would think it would get in the way--but the guys at swimplatforms.com know what they are doing and it is nothing but a wonderful addition.

The seat is very basic. It is attached to the raised section where the old front seat was attached. The front seat is still attached the same way--so if I want to go back and can just unscrew the new seat and presto the boat is exactly the way it used to be. All you need to do is flip the old seat back into place.

We made the seat in our living room one evening with marine vinyl (purchased from a local fabric store), foam, a staple gun, a 2X8 and some 2X4s. We painted the boards white and also purchased some netting to hold additional items in under the seat. We hold two lifejackets and koozies under the new seat. We are thinking about naming our boat some sort of redneck name since we custom make our own seats now. You might also notice that the seat is much higher than the older one that is now flipped backwards. We "designed" it this way. We always stood up or sat on one knee. I believe it is about 6 inches higher than the old seat. We also used about 4 inches of foam--so it is nice on you over the roughest waters. But I no longer have a backrest. I don't mind--I am boating in Iowa so no worries.

We did construct the seat too long the first time and had to cut off about 2 inches to allow for room for the controls on the starboard side of the boat. So the seat is about two inches shorter than the other two chairs. Overall I think we spent less than $100.00 on everything for the new seat.

I will attach another picture. Hopefully this will help.

One more picture of the new seat

New seat--I did not clean the boat for the photo. I am sorry for the messy boat.

The 220 thread is hot ! ....Rock, here is a few shots of the manual toilet install....I will get a shot of the 20 gal. holding tank soon....I put in a 6 gal. water tank for flush water instead of a through hull. I have since boxed in the hoses in the mid cabin.

So is the old seat still there in it's flipped back position?
This would be great, but I'll have to think about the loss of the backrest. I boat on the chesapeake and do use the backrest. But thanks for the idea. I'm sure I can use my imagination and come up with something.

Marckmann.....would I be rude to ask what the swim platform cost ?.....Rock , here's another take on the bench seat.

Quint,

Where did you mount the Fresh water tank? How big of a waste tank do you have and where did you put that? I have the head, need to get the holding talk yet. If I run a hose to the A/C seacock, I might have to do a lot of pumping to get the water over to the bathroom. would probably end up being a 15'+ run. But on the other hand, till I buy another tank and find a place to mount it, it might not be so bad.

Or if I wait till I pull the boat, I can just put another thru-hull in right at the head.

Decisions, decisions...thats why I keep putting it off.

Got another question. My Guest Shore power charger died. I have a pretty nice automatic charger I'd like to use. I can wire it up to the existing wires, but it is designed to only charge one bank or one battery. Is there an isolator already in the electrical system somewhere that I can use to charge both batteries or must I buy another. There must be one for the alternator.

Rock , 20gal. holding tank & 6 gal. flush water tank in engine compartment...starboard side. I removed the water heater as it leaked and I didn't use it anyway ( pics soon ).....the jabsco toilet draws water quite well...I think your long run may work out. My boat has an isolator for batteries.

Marckmann , thanks for price...it definitely updates the look of your 220....we secure our towable tube to our swim platform so it makes it awkward to use....I think the addition of the swim platform would make the boat a lot more user friendly.

Totally agree on the platform( I'll trade ya some baskets for it  ) Great addition. We pretty much keep the the tub on the boat all the time so it would make life so m uch easier. Thats why I joined this forum. Great ideal from great folk.

Cheers

looks good....but a little small.....anyway we just had a great weekend on our boat on the Ohio river.....got a slip in Cincinnati and anchored out behind Riverbend Music Center Saturday Night and listened to Rascal Flatts...lot of fun...probably 200 boats, lots of Sea Rays....a brand new 480 sundancer pulled up close to us...wow what a boat !...it was a little scary going back ( 4 miles ) to our slip in the dark but we made it okay.

OK, I think I got it bigger.

I love being out in the dark. I guess you were in unfamiliar waters?

Big country fan also. Any other artists??

Had a great weekend on the water also. The kids are really enjoying the dinghy also! Probably the best money spent so far.

much better ! I really like that white hull.....as for the concert the opening act was Jason Aldean.....the ride back in the dark was fine I was just worried about the occasional drunk who would pass me at full speed....I stayed kinda close to the shoreline and kept a close watch.

Quint,

When you installed the head, was there a reason why you didnt run the hoses behind the wall?

I think I'm going to go electric. I'm going to wait till the boat is out of the water. I dont want to waste a whole boating day working on the boat.

Another question. I never flipped back my helm seat, from the looks of one of the pics, it would interfere with the engine hatch.

Finally sold my 1990 220 DA last week. (Now, I can afford the payments on my "new" 240 DA.

The new owner actually "traded down" from his 1988 230 DA because he said the 220 had better features and handled much better than his older boat.

Almost simultaneously, someone else berthed a 220 DA a couple of slips away. We were both wondering what year it is. Mine had separate red & green navigational lights, while the new one had a single, multi-colored one in the bow. Can anyone help us out on this?
