220 DA thread

how many 220DAs do we have on the upper Chesapeake?
We should try to do a meet up this summer.

Hello all! Has anyone mounted a kicker motor on their swim step? I'm considering picking up a used Yamaha T8 from a buddy. The swim step is just so high off the water that I'm curious if any one has put one on and if so, how was it mounted and are you happy with the performance?

Hi all:
Well, I succeeded in modifying my seat, and we went out and had a great time. Only one thing concerned me - we got rocked pretty hard by some wakes when we were anchored, and a loud buzzing alarm sounded. It sounded the same as the oil pressure/temp alarm that goes off if you leave the key on for 10 secs. While we were anchored, though, the key was off, as were the batteries. Is there another alarm which would go off when the boat gets rocked a lot, or would it be the oil level or something? The pressure & temp gauges looked ok when we were heading back home, but the alarm went off again for 5-10 seconds. Any idea of what I should be looking for would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bobby

Blobby, was there much water in your bilge? You probably have a float switch high water alarm (I do in mine) and if you were getting rocked pretty good I could see the water sloshing back and forth enough to set off this alarm.

I bet that's it, there was a decent amount of water in there. I'll try to find the switch & see if all the pumps are working. Thanks!

Just bought an 89 220DA. I'll be picking it up this weekend. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

MarckMann:

Did you install the swimplatform yourself? If so, how difficult was it? If not, what was the cost for install?

thanks

I dont know where you would put a genny other than to strap it to the swim platform.

Anyone know where I can get the rubber molding that goes on the exterior of the side windows? Mine have shrunk a few inches. thanks!!!

Hey fellow 220 owners...

OK....so I got my 1990 220 DA out of the water and got her home a couple weekends ago. After clearing off around 100 pounds of fouling from the trim tabs and outdrive, I'm on to the task of prettying her up. One thing I found is that it looks like the entire canvas setup came with her, and most of it is completely unused. But it looks like the 2nd frame (rear) is missing. Bimini top/cockpit cover is on, and that frame came installed. It's just the aft frame (for the camper) that seems to be missing.

Anyone know where to get a replacement and/or specs offhand???

Thanks in advance!!!

Have you called Great Lakes yet? They've got all my camper canvas stuff for my '93 230DA which is a close sister-ship to a 220DA and if they sell the whole thing I don't know why they wouldn't sell you just the frame

I would try Taylor Made. On mine, it is a hard strip of plastic that fits in the channel. But on a 92 290 just down from me it is has the foam you are talking about.

Thanks! I'll give them a shot.:smt038

One other question I wanted to ask from everyone - what type of trailer (if any) do you have for your boat, and what are you using to haul them around? I might be in the market for a new truck, so I'd like to get an idea of what works in the real world....

Thanks!!

When I had my 220da It had a steel tandem axle trailer from the factory, with surge brakes. I pulled it fine with a Chevy 1500 5.3V8 4X4.

I have the hard plastic type. Any idea where I could find it?

Outdrive / Planing

Hi all:
I was wondering if anyone has advice for me on getting up on plane. Most of the time when we're trying to get up speed, our wake is really "frothy" and it doesn't feel like the propeller is really getting any bite. Once or twice we've managed to get the wake looking right and the speed up, but mostly it just doesn't get there. All I'm doing is keeping the outdrive all the way down and flooring it; it never seems to want to get much over 4000 rpm. As you can tell, I have no idea of what I should be doing! I know the outdrive is just overdue for a 2-yearly service; could that be the cause? I don't know if they can slip like a clutch or if they just fail outright. Any advice appreciated - though I'm guessing the best thing would be the 5L engine!
Thanks,
Bobby
