220 DA thread

Welcome Aquaddict.... Check the link in my signature for some ideas. I saw Quint's helm seat mod, which Isola linked to, and ordered from the same source. As far as the rear bench, I left mine as is, but changed the legs, and made the seat higher. I used plug-in PVC legs, which I posted in a thread a while back. The way the seat hinges, you can make a change to the seat height, and still have a very functional seat. I went as high as I could, without making it unsafe. It was used a lot this past season, and the added height didn't bother anyone sitting there while underway. Of course, if you fell backwards, you would fall onto my new swim platform, which is better than falling on the outdrive.

I thank you both for your replies. I searched for your post regarding the PVC option but couldn't find pictures. Sounds like a good way to go. I am also thinking of just removing the seat entirely and putting starboard doors on hinges to have rope and tackle storage and just have some folding camp chairs on board as needed.

I dug up an old photo so you can see what I used. The boat had the short setup on the left when I bought it. I replaced it with the longer version on the right. I also wanted to be able to easily put the back seat up, so I elected to keep the PVC adapter screwed into the metal fitting, and just pull the legs out when I wanted to fold the seat in. I had to sand the inside of the fitting so the pipe would easily pull out. The white color matches the boat color very nicely. The legs are stored behind the seat, under where it folds in. I used the heck out of the boat for this last season, and the back seat worked out great (as well as the new helm seat).

Welcome Aquaddict. I too read through every post in this thread. I was so excited to be back into a Sea Ray and wanted to learn all I could about my boat. I had big plans but ended up leaving it as is. After using it a few times I realized I like it. Nice to fold the seat in when I'm alone or just my girlfriend. Really nice to fold the seat out and set up the table when another couple joins us for a few beverages and snacks.

Thanks for finding the pics of the PVC. I am still in debating mode on what to do. No matter what though, my family is excited about this boat. Glad we got it and glad I found this forum. Can't wait for warmer weather! Thanks to all for your advice.

BTW, you can get everything you need from Home Depot, including the rubber feet. The metal fittings look horrible, but since it's under the seat you never see them. I used acetone to remove the writing on the PVC, so it really looks like bench legs, and not plumbing supplies!

I had looked at several other boats, all a lot newer, and my gut feeling said go with the 220. The more I delve into the boat's construction, the more I like it. I call it my "little tank" on the water.

Also, think about adding the Bennet Auto Trim Tab system. It's something you can do after it hits the water. Well worth the money, and you won't be fooling with the hokey tab buttons while underway.

The koolaire system SUCKS!
It will keep the head cool, if the door is shut and that is about it!
We are biting the bullet and putting in real air conditioning in the spring.

New snap in carpet

I just had a new snap in carpet set made at Corrinthian Marine Carpet in Oregon. This is their gunmetal carpet that is on special and only ran 385 total with sunbrella edging. I had the small front part of the main carpet seporate from the rear inline the the floor line along the rear cabin window. This way when fishing I can snap out the rear main and engine hatch pieces to keep them clean. Also I had a drop curtan made that drops from the rear edge of the ft conv top with a roll up door at the walkway so I can close the front in durring inclement weather.

What was included for the 385? Did you get in the helm area also done? More pics please!!!!

Hi,
I am looking for other people with 220 Sundancers. I own a 1990.

Wendy
I have a 1991 220da. I bought from the original owner! It had less that 400hrs when I bought it and the factory seals were still on the head and the Stove! I got real lucky. It is in excellent shape cosmetically and mechanically.

Hi guys !

I'm visiting Las Vegas next week and I would like to do some marine shopping. Not for a new boat, but maybe som electronics and other accessories. Any recommendations ?

I have a convertable top side curtains and the full camper top for a 89 220 DA.
It has all the screens also. It is just the fabric since i used the poles to make poles for my new bimini.

It is the green with tweed color. The camper is in real good shape. The convertable top is in ok shape. My canvas guy took a seam out of the pockets in order to get them of the poles. You could sew it back together or sew zippers in so you can easily service them in the future.

They are free to anyone on here that might want them. I live near Toledo OH and could ship them to you provided you pay the shiping.

I just figured someone here could use them.

Tim

Hello, I am interested in the Camper / Convertible top. I just sent you a private message with my phone #. I have been looking for years for a top and would love to be able to buy it from you. Thanks!

Does anyone know how the side padded panels, in the cockpit area, are removed? My guess is that they are bolted from behind, but some of those nuts might be impossible to get at.

Yesterday, I took out my marine radio and 8 foot antenna and installed a Wilson cell phone booster with a marine cell phone antenna. With boating on a lake, the cell phone communication is all I need. I will also use the cell phone (iPhone) as my entertainment center, using Pandora for my music. I had XM, but I find that for my taste the music selection is better with Pandora, plus for only $36.00/year it's commercial free. I have to route the antenna wire from the starboard side to the rear cockpit area, where the cell phone cradle will be installed.

I'm toying with the idea of installing an anchor windlass and was wondering if anyone can post photos of a 220 with a windlass. One big question, does the anchor locker have enough room and height for the rode to free-fall into it? I see the Lewmar Pro-Sport 550 is less than $500.00, which is a lot less than I thought I'd have to pay for a windlass.

Also, I'll answer my own question from the above post.... the side panels are bolted on. I was able to see two or three of the bolts, looking up into the starboard side, after removing the panel in the mid-berth.

Danny, I'll take some pics tomorrow or Friday. I am still wrapped, but can get pics. I have 15' of 1/4" chain and 150' of rope, no problem at all.
