220 DA thread

Mine also has the snaps in place but I think I'm in the minority...I have no interest in carpet...fiberglass is just fine with me.

Doesn't it get slik on the fiberglass when it gets wet? I was washing mine out the other day and you guessed it, right on my lower end. That is when I decided to go with carpet.

Does any one have any pictures of their carpet? I can't decide if I should cut out the engine hatch or leave it one piece...

Thanks LetsRock for the welcome!!

Has any one done there own snap in carpet for their 220? Mine has all of the studs already installed so I think I am going to try and make my own!

It shouldn't be too hard. I personally like the feel of carpet on the boat. We don't do any fishing, so it stays clean. If you do it yourself, you can make a rough template using heavy brown paper. Once you have the exact size cut, take it to a carpet store and they can sew on the edging. Installing the snaps is easy. And oh yes, my dogs prefer the grip also.

It doesnt seem to get slippery when it gets wets. Plus we do a lot of fishing and constantly have kids on the boat so for me its more hassle than its worth right now. Good luck.

Hi Zetto11 and welcome

I have posted pictures of my cockpit carpet. Definitely make your carpet in one piece it can be rolled to one side to give you access to the engine compartment as you can see. Like Danny I like the feel of carpet on the boat if we are fishing I roll it up and store it in the aft birth It ill get wet but it dry’s pretty quickly....Oh and it also makes the engine noise much quiter. :smt038

Can't post a photo right now, but on my carpet the cutout for the table support is a circle.

As far as cutting out for the engine hatch, I often thought it would be a good idea, and would like the easier access to the engine compartment. That said, it may not be worth the trouble, and would require several more snaps to hold everything in place.

Also, my carpet has a rubber backing. I don't know if it's required, but I'm sure it helps keep it from moving around, even with the snaps installed.

1990 DA 220 Y valve? and Mercruiser Alternator?

Hello, does anyone know if a 1990 Sundancer 220 has a Y-Valve for a pump out head? The Police did a safety inspection and he asked if I had a Y-Valve.

Does anyone know where it is located?

Also, I need to replace my alternator. I have the 1990 Mercruiser 5.7 engine. Can anyone confirm the Mercruiser part # will be 817119A4.

Thanks!

Thank you Isola, and Danny Troy.
I think that I like the carpet Idea. It makes your boat look finished. I ordered the carpet and it has the Aqua Trac backing. Still not sure about the engine compartment yet. One whole piece looks realy nice. I will post some pics when I get it done (if ever).

Today I am headed to the prop shop. Tore mine up this weekend. Any one have a prop bigger than 16 X 13? I am thinking about getting more pitch because the boat seams kinda slow.

O ya, also buying a new anchor, lost that too.. Still had a great time!!!

Sounds like an expensive weekend but that’s what it’s all about getting out and using your boat and having fun  ....And you can alway get new bits.:smt043

Guzz, I don't know about a Y-valve, but I have a macerate and that valve is located in the engine compartment, below the front of the engine. I remembered seeing a valve next to the cabin bilge pump, under the hinged floor panel. Didn't take a good look at it, so I don't know whether that's related to the toilet. There's also plumbing under my head sink, which can be accessed from wall panel in the mid-berth (or from a hatch in the head, if so equipped). My macerater pipe ran into that under-sink enclosure.

Zetto, I don't know the size of my prop, but I have a stainless Merc HighFive five-blade. I don't have anything to compare it to, but the boat has all the speed I'm looking for, with the 5.7 engine. Cruising at 3300rpm, I'm keeping up with the ski boats cruising. I haven't taken the GPS on the boat yet, but will soon. Problem with that prop is it's expensive. Luckily it was on the boat when I bought it.

A question about the switch for fresh water..... Has anyone relocated, or added another switch to turn on the fresh water pump in the galley area? I'd love to be able to flip a switch at the sink instead of having to go out to the cockpit to turn on, then off. Maybe I'm just running out of cool mods to do

Hi there,
we are new in boating. We bought in January our 220 DA and yesterday we had it the first time in the water. It was awesome!!!! The boat is a 1991, but in relative good condition. Only the interior wall carpet and upolstry has some water stains through the rail. Do you have an idea how to get rid off it without exchanging the whole thing?
In the same time do you know how long the Anchor chain /robe has to be?
One last question our Compass Glass/Dome is broken, the rest is fine. Is there a possibility to get only the glass and where? It is a Ritchie F83, Pembroke, MA
It would be super if you could help us.
Many thanks in advance,
Jenny and Hinkel

Before we give info, we need PICS!!!!

The compass... You will need to replace the entire unit.

I am using 150' of anchor line with 20' of chain. The deepest water I am in 40', and when I anchor, am usually in less than 10'.

Rust stains, I removed mine with a product called rust away from my local West Marine. I then used a portable carpet cleaner and cleaned the areas with plain water to flush out the cleaner.

You might try the easy way, although the stains may be permanently set in the fabric. Use the spray cleaner Fantastic and a scrub brush, then use a shop vac to pull out the dirt. You might try a steam cleaner, but like I said, those stains can be tough to get out. If you can't get the stains out you will at least make it better than it is now.

The compass, I wish I can give you mine, but I'd have a gaping hole in the panel. I'll never use mine, boating on a lake 11 miles x 2.

For anchor, my boat came with an 8 lb. anchor with 6 feet of chain and about 150 feet of line. I felt this wasn't enough for this boat and I went with a 13 lb anchor, 12 feet of chain and 100 feet of line. For the lake this works perfectly, since the water depth is about 35 feet average, and I'm usually anchoring fairly close to other boats at anchor, so I don't want a lot of swing. I'd definitely go with the 13 lb anchor.

BTW, does your's have an anchor hatch at the bow, accessible from the deck? I had to cut into the deck and add my own hatch. Well work the effort, I think.

Anyway, good luck with the new (old) boat. The more you examine it the more you will like it.

I just replaced mine - 1990 220DA 5.7. Mine was a Mando alternator. Yours may be different. Best price I found was in the link below. No troubles at all. I'd recommend them but based on only one purchase. http://www.db-starter-alternator.co...o-marine-mando-alternator-293-18-amn0002.aspx

Thought I'd post a few photos I took today.

I replaced the 24"x24" table with one that doesn't get quite in the way. Since I added the helm seat, my seat is permanently facing aft, cause a bit of cramping with the original table. I found yet another use for the Starboard I had left over from the swim platform construction. This table is 12"x34". A lot more practical for our use.

If you look close you can see the Starboard step I added that fit on the cupholders, to make climbing on to the deck easier. I was prompted to do this when I was rushing to get back to the dock yesterday, with an impending storm. I slipped on the cup-holder step and almost broke my neck :wow:

The other photo shows two main reasons for building the swim platform.... a place for the dogs to hang out, and a place to secure the electrified kayak. So far, it's a home run.... and the wife likes it too!

If you want more info on the kayak I just posted a little page on it: http://dannyrussomusic.com/Moorea_kayak.htm

Hi Danny, the boat is looking great! :wow: All the hard work has paid off. I was wondering how you had motorised that kayak and had thought perhaps you had used an electric jet drive or something but no, your idea was much better!!!

I’m back in the water now myself. Must get around to uploading some pictures.

Oh and by the way . . you had posted a question about moving your water pump switch. I moved it to the galley area on my boat along with the fridge switch. I find this is a much better place for it rather than going up above to turn on and off.

Isola:thumbsup:

I can't remember why your boat was out of service. Anyway, welcome back and hopefully your repairs weren't too expensive.

Did you route the water pump wiring through the engine compartment, or is there an easier way? The shore-line panel is right next to the galley, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have any water pump wiring in that area.

Hi Danny,
Hi Mark,
thanks so much for your response!!!:smt001 I will try it out as soon as I have time. I will let you know how it turned out. We are very excited, as we go tomorrow the second time on the water with our boat :smt043. We never had a "big" boat like this before. Only up to 12 feet fishing boats. It is quite the change, but we love it already. Mark, tomorrow I will take some pics and will download them asap.
Thanks again and happy boating,
Jenny and Hinkel
