205 Sport thread?

I didn't realize this thread was even here. Here are a couple of images of my 2006 205 Sport.
We have since added the stock Wakeboard Tower. I'll get a few images with that, once the season warms up a little bit here.

Just got the factory tower installed! :smt038
Now it's time to tackle a second battery, stereo upgrade, amp, tower speakers, and a remote trim switch on the transom....

Installed the transom switch tonight. It was a really easy process once you get over drilling a couple of holes in your boat...

Here's how I did it.

1. Picked my install location and double checked behind to make sure I wasn't going to run into any suprises when I drilled my holes.

2. Drilled a couple of test holes in a scrap piece of wood to test the fit of the switch and screws.

3. Taped off the install area with blue tape and then taped the template on top of the taped off area.

4. Drilled my three holes by starting off in reverse until I got thru the gel coat.

5. Ran the wire harnes out the hole and connected the switch.

6. Zip tied the wiring harnes to some existing wiring down to the pump and made the connections.

7. Tested the switch and then carefully screwed the switch to the transom.

I think it's going to be a handy addition! :smt038

Nice install! I know when I installed my drivers side stereo remote the part that took me the longest was convincing myself to cut a hole in my brand new boat. That switch is only $50 or so isn't it?

I think I would stick with the darker colored cover but would recommend not trailering with support poles as these will go up and down with the buffeting of the cover at hi-way speeds. Have heard stories of the poles hammering out the boats floor.

Sorry to change the subject, but I looking to find out if anyone has ever tried installing trim tabs on a 205 sport? I'm looking to lower my planing speed (beginner Wake boarders) and reduce the size of the wake (slalom skiing). Seems like trim tabs might do the trick.

Also, I installed a High 5 prop (19) last summer. I always run at at high altitude (between 5,000 and 8,000 ft) It definately helped improve the holeshot. Now I can yank a deep water start 220# slalom skier, with 3 adults in the boat at 8,000ft. I'm very happy with it!

Just for the heck of it, I've included a pic of my boat.

I'm also interested in the trim tabs. I'm trying to decide between tabs or a high five. Did you try the 21P high five or just the 19P?

Also, that's a good looking 205. I like the white very clean. Could I bother you to post some close up pics of your bimini? Specifically where it mounts to the tower? I'm trying to convert my under tower to an over tower style.

Thanks!! I did not try the 21P, just the 19P. I'll be pulling my boat out of storage this weekend and will take a few pics of the bimini and mounts.

It will be great to hear from anyone with 205 Sport trim tab experience.

Was just looking at the boat yesterday and was thinking the switch would hide nicely right above the 5.0mpi badge under the sunpad where the blower vents are. Does it say the switch cannot be mounted horizontally?

Waiting to hear the responses, as I have the same questions and would also like more top speed. I don't think the 5.0L mpi has enough power and is propped right for my boat.

Okay, may fall in the pointless question range. We have these dashboard coolers in our 205's. I bought mine used, and figured that a plug for the drain was probably missing. But, it occurred to me, maybe it should just be allowed to drain. If you use your dash cooler, do you plug the drain or leave it open?

The part (at least on the 2010 205) is made by Moeller Marine. They have them here: http://www.moellermarine.com/aftermarket/livewell_baitwell/drain_plugs
It's the 1/2" on the 2010.

I've emailed the Smart Tab manufacturer but haven't heard back yet. I'll pass along any information I get from them.

I like the transom switch. Where did you get it?

Well, this thread obviously needs to get bumped

Got my first Sea Ray this year. Pretty good deal on a 2006 with 47 hours and all the work documented. It had really bad graphics, so I bought some OEM Wake Graphics. In searching for the wake graphics, I got extremely lucky and found a new in the box OEM Monster Tower for a 205 sport in a dealership garage for $1,000. Couldn't pass it up! It even fits in my garage with a 7' door when folded down.

I bought the boat in mid July so I only had about two months of Michigan summer on it. I tell you what, though...I used to have a Mariah Shabah and thought it was fantastic, but this Sea Ray hull on the 21 footer just carves through chop like it isn't there. Very happy with my purchase.IMG_2433.jpg

Welcome to the forum. You sir have a fine runabout, my opinion is biased though.

Congrats on all the finds. You have one of the most loaded 2006 205's I've seen. Thanks for sharing your experience with the tower, I've been considering one and also have to deal with a 7' door - 6'10" to be precise with the weather strip in place.

How much height above the windshield does the folded tower add?

Are you able to use your bimimi with the tower?

Did the $1,000 include installation - if so, that was a h%ll of a deal.

Odd tip - your bimimi will fit folded under your sunpad, that's what the notches in the engine compartment walls are for. It was a two year only feature in 2006 and 2007, love it when on the road.
