205 Sport thread?

Tracking is really not an issue for the 205 Sport. In fact, with a 4 blade prop, the boat doesn't wander at all. (I've driven a '96 220 Signature that wandered all over the place, so I am familiar with the problem.) The only complaints I've had with the 205 Sport is that the wake is a bit big for slalom skiing (but great for boarding) and the seat upholstery is not as durable as the signature series upholstery. Other than that, it's a great boat!

Youre lucky...I havent been on an i/o runabout that hasnt wandered yet.

Mine wanders. The 4 blade prop REALLY decreased this problem.

P.S. Pictures of my trolling motor install coming soon. I went with:

  • Minn Kota Terrova, 101 thrust, 34v system, Transponder for fish finder, quick release mount.
  • 3 AGM batteries.
  • On board charging system (shore power).
  • And... A custom modification of the anchor locker. We cut it in half, mounted the motor on one side, while allowing the anchor locker to still open on the other. It's amazingly sweet and clean.

We finish tonight.

Hey all,

New to CSR, but glad to see that there are other 205 Sport owners out there willing to share their experiences. We bought our '08 new this last summer - great deal and have about 25 hours on it - all is great so far, awesome performance, couple of minor troubles.

This is off the current subject, actually meant to reply to an old post re: boat lettering. ...from '08. Sorry I'll get it right next time.

If the "ridin' dirty" guy is out there... did you remove the stock lettering, the "205" and "5.0 MPI"? If so how, just peal it off?

Just finished installing an MT2 on the boat last night. This morning its on to installing racks and such. I will post pics in a bit. It was really not that hard of an install once you decide where you want it and get over putting a drill to the side of your boat!

Hey,

Let me add yet another 205 owner to the list.:smt038

My full load(but no perfect pass :( ) 09 that I created my own Fission pkg on.
Love the boat but would much prefer it with a 5.7L or larger!

Does your bimini open to the front and go over the tower? Mine is mounted under the tower and doesn't allow me to mount my speakers underneath it and still use the bimini.

Sorry for the late reply, no notification :smt021

My Bimini wraps around the top of the tower, lots of room for everything and goes forward. This is the factory installed Bimini and tower.

Okay, may fall in the pointless question range. We have these dashboard coolers in our 205's. I bought mine used, and figured that a plug for the drain was probably missing. But, it occurred to me, maybe it should just be allowed to drain. If you use your dash cooler, do you plug the drain or leave it open?

I plug my cooler seems to work really well for us.

Would you be able to take a photo of your bimini mostly how it mounts to the front legs of the tower?

Thanks, I don't have a tower - or I'd be glad to get a pic for you.

Did your boat come with a cooler plug, or did you pick up something at a hardware store?

You have the same engine / drive I have. I have some pretty strong fuel oder when I first lift the engine cover. I've had some feedback that this can be normal with the carb engine. Do you have any fuel oder after the compartment has been left closed for a day or so?

Sorry the Bimini question was for six pack.

As for the fuel smell I've never had that issue. Off the top of my head I would check that the fuel filter is tight and check the fuel lines for cracks. I'm no mechanic just areas I would start with in your situation.

Oh, and I bought the plug aftermarket for the cooler. Picked it up from bass pro about $5. We used to use the cooler for dry storage but now we have less coolers cluttering the floor.

Thanks. The lines look like new, I haven't tried the fuel filter. Is this just a hand tighten thing?

Yep, just a little bigger than the oil filter. It's always recommended to run your blower prior to starting to exhaust any fumes that may be in the engine compartment.

Has anyone ever looked into a bow filler cushion to turn the entire bow into a lounge? I have seen some posts are larger sport boats, but no the 205.

Bow Cushion: Your boat is new, you might ask your dealer. But, I've been through a lot of spec sheets, part lists, option lists, etc. and have never seen this. I just checked the Sea Ray website, and don't see it out there. Getting something custom made may not be that difficult, and in theory Sea Ray can get you matching fabric for your boat.

Boat Cover: I've been looking for a cover. I have the snap in bow and cockpit covers, I'm looking for an overall cover. My Cabela's store had a 300-Denier Universal cover for about $75.00. This is about the rock bottom price I've seen on a product from somebody I'd trust. The Cadillac cover would be a Sunbrella cover in a fabric that matches my other canvas, and runs about $900.00 from several vendors that claim they have the factory specs for a custom cover. I had been looking at several semi-custom covers in the $300.00 range.

What have you put on your boat that you like and trailers well? How much is enough $$ to get a cover you like?

Thanks!

Thanks Dave. I'm not desperate for the bow cushion, just thought it might be a nice addition. On the topic of overall covers, my boat came with a Sea Ray Shark Skin full trailoring cover. It takes me no more than 5 mins to put it on and cinches tight. The material is very durable and best of all, I have no snaps on boat. Check with Marinemax, they usually stock them for the 205, though not sure on the price. Like most other things in life, I think you'll get what you pay for in a cover.

Thanks - Marinemax looks like a good vendor for this. The prices seem competitive for the customs I've seen. The Sharkskin is $414.00, and I haven't really dug for discounts yet. The Sunbrella fabric is $762.00 - probably the best price I've seen for this.

Two questions:

Cover Color: My boat is dark blue, dark blue snap covers, and a lot of yellow trim inside. We have a sort of blue and yellow theme going - the colors of my kid's high school, and the name of our boat is STORM - same as the high school team name. So, that is the reason I'm considering the Sharkskin in yellow. My dark blue canvas is sort of a pain for dust and road dirt. But hides dark hard to remove spots pretty well. Anybody have experience with a light color cover? Can you clean road grime, bugs, etc. out of it?

Cover Supports - Some vendors offer cover supports as an option. Some don't. It occured to me I could probably use the supports from my snap in canvas under my overall cover. Does anybody use these back and forth between covers?

Thanks!

Not sure about the light cover Dave, mine is black with a gold Sea Ray logo. My cover did come with two supports (like tent poles).
