Too hot to go boating?

I can handle the heat but my passenger (father in law), and kids at the marina are the ones I am concerned about. I have AC inside but hanging at the marina while I clean up the boat is probably the deal breaker for Friday, and maybe Saturday too. I'm not looking forward to putting the cockpit cover on, that is one hot job to begin with.

We were out recently and the water temp was 89 degrees.....it's much cooler than the air and it feels great when you get in, but the down side is that it drastically affects the efficiency if the air conditioning. Even in the covered slip, the AC has to run continously to keep the cabin cool. When the water temp gets above 80F, these AC units have to work pretty hard to keep up.

Also, the alligators seem to be a bit more active....

That is impressive. When conditions are right, driving my boat at no wake speeds feels like I am up the attic in my house. I dread to think what it would be like, if I had an emergency and needed to do anything in the engine room.

Why don't you ask me!! :smt100

Has anyone with cabin air every ran duct work to give you ac at the helm? I've thought about it a lot, but id like to hear from someone who has actually done it!

Never too hot to go boating... Just stop every once in a while to take a dip!
I agree, but I think our HOT is not as hot/muggy as their HOT ;) And I bet the water is cooler! (especially down 4' and below!) ;)

I'm on the other side of the fence. I told my wife that we should get to the boat the earlier the better due to the heat index. Over the years I found that being on water we don't even feel such big heat wave. There's always a light breeze while you're on the hook. If it's not too windy it might be a good idea to be on a bit open spot vs. the most protected cove, just to get more air flow. Obviously, these are the days that will require genny to be on to have the A/Cs running.

For the dock queens, I agree it's better to stay home unless one prefers to be stuck in the cabin until sunset.

Let's go boating, guys.

Alex, where will you be this week end? I want to get some of that cool breeze...

I was actually kicking around installing an engine driven a/c compressor and install a system like in your car! Just have to find a way to circulate water instead of air over the condenser.

You know it's hot when this happens....

For months the northern boaters on this site complained how cold it was and they were ready for summer so they could boat and now your complaining about how hot it is? Pull your panties up, start those motors and get out there and enjoy. Before you know it it will -5 deg up there and you will regret not going out on those hot days.

I'm with you, Alex. If its aver 96, the boat is where I'll be...

We've been lucky for the past month or so. The summer started off cool, windy and rainy but lately it's been just about perfect for boating......

Doesn't get much better than this. Next weekend the Unlimited Hydroplane races are being held here in town. It's usually 100+ at this time of year but this year it looks like it'll be pretty decent. We're keeping our fingers crossed...

Too hot to go boating??? Thats like saying it's too late at night for sex, or too early for beer.

Never too hot for boating!!! I live on the north shore of Long Island but boat on the south shore primarily for the beaches and the cool ocean breezes!!!

GGranted everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is most of you are spoiled. There was a time before air conditioning and in some of your lifetimes. This is just silly to me. Back in the day people knew the heat was harmless if you took precautions and drank plenty of water. What's wrong with a little sweat. First people cry its to cold, then they cry its too hot. Meanwhile people like myself actually have to work outside in the sun. I keep plenty of water and a towel to dry the sweat out of my eyes, and being a guy at 250lbs, I sweat in gallons.

Sorry guys, can't help but wish I had mine running and the time today to use it if it were, cause believe me, id be there. So soon as this shipping company gets off their union mandated break I get to go back outside and tie this load down and take it to where it is even hotter. Houston TX

I don't mean to rant, but this was the last thing I expected after sweating outside working and now waiting for others to finish the job. Haha
