390 EC complete restoration thread

I've already changed the vacuum switch as sometimes it used to stuck closed :smt001

I'm thinking about the a/c drain also..... but is some water in the bilge a real problem??? It will never be completely dry anyway...

Once I divert the condensate from the ER, I will be able to know if I have any other leaks. Other than the condensate, my ER is dry Pietro.

I think we discussed this before, but...on mine, the condensate drain hose just ran through the bulkhead and stopped under the engine. Why they didn't run it an extra few feet, and dump it into the forward bilge sump is beyond me. Simple enough to add a barbed coupler and another length of hose to run it to the sump, but I installed a Mermaid Condensator instead.

Ken, I suggest you carefully check the elevations of the condensate drain on the pan, and the inlet on the sump. Even with the boat at rest, I don't think that will work as * I think * the sump inlet will be sitting higher than the condensate drain due to the floor sloping aft. It's guaranteed not to work when you're on plane- with the boat on a 4-5 degree angle or more, the sump will be much higher than the pan drain.

The Mermaid Condensator works great- but is a lot of money for a little brass block. After looking at it, it would be simple enough to put together a homemade one for a few bucks worth of pvc pipe and fittings- it's nothing but a venturi in the larger hose , that's fed from a 1/4" hose that's fitted to the drain pan with an adapter.

You may be right about us discussing the drain issue some time ago. I had already extended the condensate drain to the fwd bilge sump. You are partially correct about the elevations Mike. With the boat at rest, I can obtain sufficient slope. On plane, it would not work though. We don't use our AC while under way up here, so that would not be an issue. Another scenario that I have also been pondering is to run a drain pipe all the way back to the aft sump. I agree with you about the Mermaid condensator being quite pricey. I thought of that idea years ago. I wonder why their kit is so costly?? I think that running a PVC drain pipe to the back would probably be the simplest and most effective solution.

Mine is actually draining into the front pump well.... another little advantage of having one of the last 390 built :smt001

So spot the TV in the picture  ...in the meanwhile please note the new black miniblinds!

I am quite satisfied with the result, but the hold is not very sturdy.... I'll see what I can do to make it stronger.

In the master easy job:

and....I could not help following the trend... and got my transom leds:

...but the salon is still a mess...the dash is not finished...the cockpit seats not in place...and summer is approaching!!! :smt089:smt089:smt089

Pietro - You never fail to amaze me! What an awesome build. You have to be so excited.

What brand are the LED transom lights? What color did you go with, and how many did you install? I am going to finish wiring mine today. I will post some pictures tomorrow :smt038

Love the TV's... would love to do something similar in mine.

It's safe to say that you have my favorite boat on the forum. My goal is to make my 30' the little brother to your 39'

I'll be happy to be the bigger brother to your 300  ...I just love the classic 300, 340 and 390 SR!!!

Lights are shadow-caster http://www.shadow-caster.com/ 2 of them in bimini blue.

I found the TV hold in a RV shop....I hope it won't rust... TV are Toshiba with built in DVD.

The day I'll splash will be a great one... pity no CSR fellows with me :smt089

As always- nice job! Very ingenious use of that space for the TV- haven't seen that one done before.

The blinds are fantastic. The only thing I have left to do- got these horrible looking blue curtains :)

Did you fabricate that valance over the blind? Don't have anything like that on mine...

What are you doing with the windows in the head and guest sr- they're very angled and blinds will hang horizontally?

Ciao,

Mike

Ciao,

Mile, I have just had new mini blinds made in black. The valance is original. You can see the originals in the following pic:

Head and guest s/r: I want to leave the original blinds. They are made of tiny wooden rods and a canvas fringe and you can roll them. We are trying to put a new canvas on them...

Pietro,

Can you share some more info about your tv install. Perhaps size, model number, etc. I was actually shopping for replacement units for my 390 this past weekend and I never thought about that space in the salon but I like it. I assume you'll be using an inverter rather than dc units?

Great job on the rebuild. I've been watching all along and am really looking forward to your final result.

The TV in the master is 19" and the one in the salon is 22"
They are both Toshiba with built in DVD player. Model are 22DV615DG and 19DV615DG but they are italian models and I believe you won't find the same in the USA.
Yes, I am using an inverter

Bracket is made by an italian company named Project2000. I know they sell in Europe but I do not know if their products are available in your country. I believe you'll be able to find something similar in a RV shop.
FYI that's the link to their catalog: http://www.project-2000.it/Catalogo 2009-2010.pdf
My model is Art. 12731/40A4/01/000

I hope this can be of help!

Wow...you sure get to do some cool stuff. BTW...where in Italy are you? My wife has been there twice and I am wanting to go badly. She has been diving around Sardina...do you ever get there?

John, I live in Rome...and If you are planning a trip to Italy, you just cannot miss Rome!

My boat is in Nettuno, http://www.marinadinettuno.it/ very close to Anzio that you may know because of the allies' landing in 1944 during the WWII.

Yes, I've been to Sardinia more than once.
It's beautiful and wild and is the perfect place for sailing. I took place in many regattas there in the past.
But from my homeport is quite a stretch...some 150 nm! So I prefer to hop from one isle to the other in my neighborhood, Giglio, Elba, Ponza, Ischia, Capri etc...

So, while most of you are already enjoying the pleasure of boating, I’m still fighting with the yard as my project is far from being finished...

Gues room almost finished:

And here I'd like to know you comments about my new aluminum dash...does it look like too much like a race car from the sixties???

And...:smt017...should I send a pre-paid ticket to Heater and have her crossing the Atlantic to help me finishing my crazy project??

I don't know, It's looking like you have everything under control there.

That thing is looking very very nice and I love the dash! WOW looks like the bridge of a star ship.

Dash reminds me of the 70s Smokey and the Bandit cars. I cant imagine the glare when out in the sun. Looks like good work, but wouldn't have been my choice. If you like it thats all the matters. You will be the one looking at it, so if it's what you like, it looks great!
