390 EC complete restoration thread

Willie, I’m also concerned with the possible glare…if it doesn’t work I will have my first next-winter project!
Heater, yes everything seems to be under control but I really miss your relentless passion here! The work is carried out by the yard and they are way too sluggish ….:smt013

The weather is unbelievably bad this week-end so it’s easier to bear the fact the boat is still on the hard... a few updates as we are finishing the cockpit...
Following Mike (tobnpr) suggestion all the cockpit lining is now made in starboard. You can see the new bins and where the gang-plank will sit.

Detail of new bin (this is were my guests' shoes will go)

these are the bins under the pilot and passenger seats. I will put the fridge batteries under the passenger seat:

That's all for today... hopefully next week the exterior cushions will be ready..... :smt001 :smt001 :smt001

Damn...now you've done it.
I'm gonna have to go back and re-do some things now.

I really like the way you did the area of the storage bin on the port side. On mine, that panel is one-piece and extends all the way to the hullside. I like the way you squared it off and returned it on a 45 deg angle to the hullside. I also like the Starboard panels against the hullside- mine were originally glued-on carpet, so I just replaced the carpet. Were yours carpet as well?

I also debated about re-making the under gunnel storage bins, but ended up not doing it. They look really nice!!

Those slots cut into the front of the gunnel are for the gangplank brackets?

Looks like a hard canister raft on the deck- where are you going to mount the cradle?

Coming along beautifully, Pietro- keep the pics coming!

Yes mine were carpet too...awful solution as they were constantly wet

No they are for the rod holders and will be covered by the backrest.

No craddle it just fits perfectly between the bench and the port hullside

As I enjoy John megatrip in the Keys, wishing you a great 4th of july and hoping to show you a finished salon and cockpit soon, I spent my Saturday installing the Nautley davits.... (funny is that nobody has never seen something like these in Italy... everybody is still using the hydraulic gangplank as a crane cluttering the swim platform...:smt021)

It's just an original Nautley Dinghy Ramp.

http://www.dinghyramp.com/

You can buy one or make it by yourself. Two Peas and other members have done an impressive job!!! Just do some search on the forum.

Thanks.

Did you have to build any additional support into the swim platform to handle the extra wieght of a dinghy and engine?

Hey Pietro,
We are having new carpeting installed throughout in a few days. We had it all tore up in the salon area when we had to make repairs to the fresh water tank. In post #48, I was looking at your picture of the bathroom floor where you cut in a new floor hatch. I remember you saying that you did this because you were having problems with a leaking shower drain. We are not experiencing any problems like that at this point in time, but it would probably be a good idea to cut in a hatch just in case. I wouldn't think that the space would be very deep there because of the hull's shape, but any extra storage space would be welcome. What do you store in that newly acquired space? I copied your idea and built a port side bed step in the fwd stateroom. Although it was a very simple idea, it was a great one to assist getting up into bed.

IIRC, he cut the hole to remove the waterlogged foam, and just decided to leave it as a hatch. Could be wrong...

You're right- there's no room there for significant storage. It's outboard the stringer and you can see the limited space from the shower sump area just on the other side of the stringer. Unless you need to get in there for a repair, I wouldn't see a use for the space. Heck, I don't use most of the storage available all the way down the center of the boat as it is. That's one thing about the 390's- plenty of belowdecks stowage!

You're right Mike and that was beacuse of the leaking shower drain.

Ken I managed to fit the shower sump under the head floor freeing up the center line compartment in front of the head's door

Where did you get that swimplatform?? Looks great - much better than the orginal.

It's an original swimplatforms.com one that was shipped to me all the way to Italy. It's a great product Sea Ray couldn't have manufactured better. Perfect fit, perfect colour, it's sturdy and huge!!! I used to carry my tender using the Weaver Davits...no more now!!!

You don't want us around for your big launch Pietro. I remember you saying a few months back that you had a young lady all lined up for this special occasion. Good luck with that my friend.:thumbsup:

You buying the beer?

My Dad had a saying- "If you're going to do something, do it right"...

Unquestionably, you've done it "right". Beautifully done.

The Sunbrella cockpit bolsters are truly a novel idea- I've never before seen them done. Nice touch. And the windshield- wow... better than new.

Just don't ever add up what you've spent.

MORE PICS!

the girls all went away because of the delay...probably they are now adorning the bow sunpad of a luckier guy with a boat that can actually navigate... :smt013:smt013:smt013

Mike, you are right about doing things right and about not counting expenses... a few years ago I went through the same emotions restoring a classic car... so much money and time, but the pride and joy is immeasurable!

I’m buying the beers, the champagne and all the margaritas you can take...that restoration would have never been the same without this forum!!!
