Wes- Gary has proven time and time again that he can "take it". With much expense to the humor found on the board, he cannot 'give it' anymore because 'it' gets deleted. Censorship is a slippery slope.

I understand his 'attacks' can get personal sometimes, but I would take it personal if I had taken B. S. Kearney's advice and spent time, effort, and money based on his advice only to have it not work. The guys that Gary 'attacks' continually proffer inaccurate information. I for one would like to see them suffer some consequence for stating BS as fact. Written bashing on an internet forum is a LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT consequence. If they can't take 'it', maybe they'll leave and we'll be left with accurate information? Survival of the fittest.

Matt,

Not sure if you have been appointed to defense but there have only been two of Gary's post (both were below the belt in my personal opinion, are you familiar with the post that you are defending?) that have been deleted by me and I will be glad to talk to you or anyone else about it off-line that feels Gary is being picked on here or the slope is not level. To call someone out for inacurate information is no problem what-so-ever and encouraged but to bash another member in post in which that member is not even involved to the point of low personal attacks is not acceptable, there again it is my personal opinion and again feel free to shoot me a pm and I will be glad to give you my side of the story if that would help. Again however I do ask that we do it off-line.

Gary also knows that he can talk to me if he has a problem with anything I have done and we have always been able to work out problems in the past. He is the reason I no longer edit post just because they have a dirty word in it. I am not afraid to listen to another persons point of view and I also know that I am not always right. Again the two post that I deleted needed to be deleted in my personal opinion.

Hope you are having a great 4th, sorry you are having to worry yourself with this during the holidays.

Just for the record Wesley... you have deleted far more than two of my posts. You have deleted entire thread sections as well as edited posts of mine or deleted several over the year.. I may be old, but my memory isn't gone yet. I seriously don't think my post this morning was "below the belt." If that was below the belt, then the pictures here are about at "foot level." (I think the pictures are funny). Anyone reading that post I put up this morning would see it as humor. I think you are just afraid that someone else may not and you want to please everyone. The problem with "pleasing everyone" is you end up "pleasing no one". I suggest when you edit or delete a post you leave the post there and put a big "EDITED/DELETED BY CSR" or something so people know it has happened.

Matt has not been appointed to my defense... but he does a nice job!

I've decided that I will now refer to a "stereo typical stupid CSR member" that is fictitious and is no one's name so you can't delete it. His "name" is Phil Blearney. I don't think you can delete my posts by referring to my made up character...

Oh yeah... XXX owns a "Three Losers" boat.

XXX - edited by First Born as he sees this as bashing of fake member that Gary created to prove a point. Is this what you are looking for sir!!!

First off Matt, I may have been wrong about the postings as Gary says that is the case, it is possible. This will fix that from now on as everyone will know when I deleted a post unless Spam as those will be deleted without regard for user. Gary I also apoligize to you if I was wrong about the number to be honest that is all that I remember deleting from you in a while.

you said " I suggest when you edit or delete a post you leave the post there and put a big "EDITED/DELETED BY CSR" or something so people know it has happened."

I don't disagree with you on this and have put your posting back up removing the name of the innocent. All posting made with his name in it (or your made up name for him by you) will be edited per your request as you have requested.

Taking your advise, now please take mine, just take the grown up approach to this one, don't say his name and he want say yours. If he or anyone else post information that is incorrect call them out on it, but anything else is being childish. The same will go for him I am tired of feeling like a 1st grade teacher saying guys don't pick on each other, guys don't pick on each other, if you can't say nothing nice please don't say anything. Let's try this approach just leave each other names out of your mouth.

Please Please Please - no more spandex, it is like looking at a train wreck!

Sorry, this had to be done... c'mon guys, LAUGH DAMIT!

What's wrong with being childish? Grown-up are boring, fat, fuddy--duddies!

Matt,

I like that slippery slope of censorship. It has a nice ring to it.

Best regards,
Frank

You guys have spent all day arguing about who edited what, how, the numbers of times and for what reason.

For the moderators and administrators, you fellows would save a lot of time and ill feelings if you would just take an hour and document the rules you intend this forum to operate by, then make them part of not only the users agreement, but also post them in an easy to find location like under a new topic heading like 'Forum Rules" or in the Announcements & FAQ's section.

I don't think anyone here will knowingly break the rules, but if they do, then there should be no argument or discussion about whatever action the moderators or administrator choose to take.

This seems like such an easy solution to what you feel is a problem (you must if you are editing members posts). If you guys prefer the rather chaotic approach you have to moderation now, then carry on......... but don't get upset at CSR members or when they complain because you choose to do it this way.

I did a rescue a couple of weekends ago... lake was VERY rough.. we headed to our favorite beach only to find we were the only ones there. Well except for 2 guys.. 2 girls.. a cooler and a sea doo.... we are eating when one of the girls runs over and yells at me if I could go see about their friend. Seems he was showing out and got himself seperated from the waterbike. With the waves and wind he was soon 20 yards from it. No blood, but a bump on the head and more embarrasment than anything I think. We pulled him on board and towed the bike back to shore. We cruised around a point and back only to see them loading up ( all 4 on the bike with the cooler in tow :smt101) and headed to the marina.

Frank,

Great suggestion and I am looking into this suggestion as we speak. Probably something we should have had in place to begin with. The problem is there really should not be much need for moderation (except to remove spam, move topics, delete trolls, etc,) that said I agree we probably need to come up with clear rules now as I am going to have to hear you removed or edited this posting but not this one. And for the record yes I do feel it was a problem and needed to be discussed and again will be glad to talk to anyone about it off-line that disagrees with that. Thanks again for the suggestion and hopefully we will have it in place by the end of the day.

You need a list of "rules" to participate on a single brand enthusiast site! Wow. Never knew this was so difficult.

Lets start a list then we can put it up so the socially challenged know how to participate on a boat forum. I'll start:

1. No pictures of spandex.
2. Can't mention any derivitave of Mr. Kearney
3. If you don't give us every detail about your boat including the color of you sheets and they ply's in your toilet paper then we can't be expected to answer your questions.

That's a start, lets make a complete list, then proper fun will ensue as we will all know how we are supposed to interact with others. How stupid of me to assume that Sea Ray owners were a smart enough group to be able to commingle without rules. Duhhh

As far as I see it, this is the best forum I know of on the web for boaters. In general its a very peaceful and informational place to get your boating fix for the day. There is absolutely no way to make it perfect. We will always have the yin and yang of members. I have had a large number of people that have left the site, most of them have just a few posts, because of how they are treated by Gary. Gary doesn't treat people that way in person. I am not sure why he feels compelled to do it on the web, but thats his own issue I guess. At the same time we have lots of people that actually GET Gary's humor and love it. I personally get it, I think Wesley gets it, Pirate certainly gets it. If posts are put out there with the intention of stirring the pot (I know, Gary is the head pot stirrer so what else should we expect?), and meant to find the line of whats acceptable then sometimes they will cross the line and get deleted.

The format and policies don't just happen on this site by chance. Its a constant weighing of what people want/need. For example, some want stronger spam policies, but these people don't receive the dirty emails I receive about why our site is so freakin hard to register on. There really is no pleasing the masses, but I think the site does a very good job of pleasing everybody in general.

Wesley is here as a volunteer to help keep the crap off the site. Some of this is spam, some of this is from personal attacks, or whatever. I fully trust his opinion to delete or edit, he has done a fine job so far except making a few users here and there mad. The reality is the posts he has deleted are posts that the users know cross the line and should be deleted. The last thing we need to do is run Wes off. I personally don't know how Wes puts up with the crap he currently gets, but I am admirable of it.

Gary, we know so many here find your posts humerous, but so many more find them offensive (which you have made it clear is your intention). We give you so much slack in being able to post as you do. When you do cross the line and it gets deleted all I ask is that you reciprocate that slack and let it go.

I am against heavy moderation in any form, but ya'll probably knew that already ;-) This place is incredibly mild compared to a reef site I have been going to for years (my post count is like 13k)

I enjoy Gary's humor, as well as pretty much most of the people's humor on here. I think a discussion board dies when it becomes purely informational without personality. It is the people that make a BB worth coming to along with the information, and I think this site has a VERY good ratio of humor to information.

I was edited by Wes only once, but it was for good reason...I posted an awesome pic of a HOT chick in a string bikini who had a tattoo of homer simpson around her private part that incorporated the private part into the tattoo.

Sorry ya missed it.

ummmm what happened? One minute I'm helping my slip neighbor clean stripers and the next there is a revolt on the forum. Why does Gary have a banned picture in his sig?

:huh:Cause he put it there :smt101:smt089:smt101:smt021:smt089:smt101
