What would you do to revive the US economy?

I guess I owe you this, I grew up with my father being a Journery Machine Repair Worker and farmer with doing other side work. I am a Journey Toolmaker and does side work to pay for my toys. If I don't pay cash for it, I don't buy it!
I believe in what most people on this site believe in, but most strongly that Manufacturing built this country and is needed to substain it. Selling Healt insurance and IRA's does not sustain this country we must produce something.
I would like to say, "If you don't want to work, get out of our country, I don't want to support you!!!"

Do you even realize how insulting and incendiary that statement is? You just said if you don't manufacturer something you don't provide anything of value.

You no longer can use ANY service or intellectual property and believe that statement. Rethink that? MM

MM: Hard to stay warm, drive, or defend yourself with an "intellectual property". Besides, the Chinese are stealing them faster than we can produce them.

Its just common sense to know if a country manufactures nothing, that country will soon belong to someone else...... by force or default. Its a historical fact, manufacturing countries have always ruled the world...... and when they give up their manufacturing they give up their ability to feed and protect themselves.

I'm sorry but this bull**** of a service based economy is looking more and more like slavery or servitude for the masses. Not every person in this country has the aptitude for white collar work. Pardon me if this sounds a bit harsh or simplistic, but what you (and a few others commenting on this thread) seem to be advocating is a life of servitude if a person is not a brainchild or born with a golden spoon in their arse.

Mike, I'm not trying to put you or anyone else down. I just don't see how free trade and the de-industrialization of this country has been anything but bad.

Pack, you are right! "Intellectual Property" is more than computers doing trade of stock at the speed of light for only those who a rich enough to invest money. Intellectual property is nothing but data to develop best marketing plans for the the product that you create. But USA is creating less and less product to sell, thus less and less workers to produce that product, thus the average citizen has less money to buy that product which then creates less sales, which then causes companies to make less product.

I was a journeyman tool and die maker for years, then got into Information Technology, and now computer security and compliance to protect that "data". While advancement has occurred in automation of manufacturing, companies are lacking that moral and ethical stance with their employees to enhance their life as well. Not just turn profit that only goes to senior management and the stock holders. We are our bothers keeper.

"Servitude"..."Slavery"...give me a freakin' break! You guys need to spend less time reading Das Kapital and a little more time reading Wealth of Nations.

This is what kills me about this forum now. This is supposed to be a forum around Sea Rays. Have you all checked out what these things cost? Go check out a new 52 DB... or a new 47 DB... You don't buy these boats by working 9 to 5 putting fenders on a car in Detroit. The people on here that own these machines are mostly business owners that built their own wealth and have a hobby with an expensive toy. Coming on here and talking about how these people are not paying their "fair share" is absurd. The government taking their boats away won't get you a better job. I don't care what MSNBC tells you.

Maybe we need a different board for people who like Sea Rays, cruising, etc and don't have to listen to the "I made some bad decisions in my career and like to whine and you need to pay for it" crowd... hmmm...

You must be kidding me. Your arrogance is showing. Will there be a 1% only forum opening soon?

My frustration comes from the US Govt loaning free money (our money and new printed money) to the financial community. This country was better off when I paid 7% interest on my home. These companies are too large to fail?.....bull****! I'm now debt free and can make no money with my investments. .6% interest on CD's and 1% on a Money Market is a joke. I'm Treasurer for two organizations and we always made money with our investments and that does not happen anymore. We need to raise our Membership prices to pay the bills now. I've watched a small investment of $30,000 go from $45,000 to $18,000 in months and back to $30,000 in the past 10 years.....not much of a return. We are in the middle of the natural gas boom right now. I just deposited over $900,000 in a 1% money market......you could not live on it's interest! Just wrote a check to the IRS for $157,000 for a quarterly payment and they will piss it away. Most people here have never seen a check like that! Another one is due in Dec! We are a non-profit organization and the Fed sure gets their share. Not one member will get a dime either! We have now invested $500,000 in stocks and bonds and I'm sure it will be like the $30,000 rollercoaster because Uncle Sam can't keep his fingers out of our money. I personally would have bought $600,000 in small arms ammo....it always seems to cost more each year and may come in handy in the future. I worked 25 years for the same company making them plenty of money until Comcast bought us and didn't want to make money anymore....great corporate nationwide decision. I'm now on my own and the five weeks of vacation went bye bye now that I'm the boss. I also work in Public Education and these high school kids are not going to do well in the real world I hate to say. Things are going to get worse. Everyone should have to earn their daily food and shelter. The Fed has created a "Deadbeat Nation" while stealing my Social Security that I paid in and also give it to Illegal's that should not be here! I'm doing fine but the walk in the park just got interupted by a rapist called the Fed but they forgot I'm armed, Mike.

#1 Get the Fed out of Banking/Loans/Housing/Insurance/Pok Barrel Spending/EPA/Energy/Business....
#2 Unemployment stops at 26 weeks period.
#3 Get our Borders under control and get Illegals out of here or do the paperwork to stay here!
#4 Manditory Drug Testing for Welfare/SSI....I had to to get a job.
#5 Common sense Military Spending.....no pie in the sky stuff.
#6 Stop worrying about getting to Mars.....I like it here.

Things must be pretty good in Indiana if you can't fill 2 forty thousand dollar per year jobs. Do you offer health care too? I can guarantee you here in Michigan you would have hundreds if not thousands of applications for those jobs.

Your tired old argument that people who are out of work are jobless by choice is to ignore reality. But there's a ton of that going on out there right now.
things are not great here and if someone with some work ethic from Michigan were to apply I would happily put them to work....but it IS work...physical labor

I just would like to know how everbody was brought up and how they make there living today to reflect there view on how to fix this mess, or what it wrong with it.
My background was modest middle class single parent family
I have been in the auto business as a tech and manager for 31 years now.
I gave up the big money of being a tech (mostly hi tech electrical work) to go to management 11 years ago when my back and hands got too sore to work right and my eyes got to the point I couldn't see anything under a dash anymore.
I make a fair rate for a long days work now but the wife has a decent job and we have no children so we can still have some toys.
I will probably never own a six figure boat but am quite happy with my classics that I can pay cash for and work on myself.

Well millions of people prove you wrong every day by voting with how they chose to spend their hard earned money to buy the services provided by millions of others that do not manufacturer anything. MM

I still carry my card as a journeyman sheet metal worker. All my employees are journeymen sheet metal workers, plumbers, pipe fitters or sprinkler fitters.

Yup, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, car sales, house wares, food, electricity, fuel, electronics, and the list goes on and on. Someone had to produce the product before you buy it!

Absolutely correct. The missing part of our economic engine is a thriving middle class supported largely by good paying "blue collar" manufacturing jobs. Can you say free trade agreement? H Ross Perot warned us about the "giant sucking sound" of good american jobs heading to other countries if these trade agreements were signed. Looks like he spoke the truth.

US Stimulus Package... Give a tax credit for buying US built yachts... Forget cash for clunkers... Most of those people bought Kias and Hundia... Even the boating equivalent to the Kia (Bayliner) are built in the US...

Kidding aside... Make tax and regulation reduction act that states: "For ever new law or tax, Five existing taxes/laws have be abolished"...

Get Rid of Corporate Tax Loopholes

Get at least 30% of the 50% that pay no taxes paying something- anything.

Stop giving away CASH to people that did not earn it when they file their return and their return exceeds what they paid in to begin with.

Quit protecting the Unions with collective bargining agreements, etc. (sorry Pack)

"Quit protecting the Unions with collective bargining agreements, etc. (sorry Pack)[/QUOTE]

So continuing in the same direction we've been going i.e. union busting and the further erosion of the middle class is part of your solution. And your statement doesn't quite make sense anyway. If you're saying do away with unions altogether than say it. Without a collective bargaining agreement there would be no union. And please explain what "etc." means or consists of. How else are unions protected in your opinion?

B*tch all you want !! You'll be dead before all this crap you guys want to happen. :smt021
