 I have a gay cousin and a lesbian aunt. I have been to Cherry Grove, Fire Island many a time! lol

It was actually pretty fun.

I love my Lord,
I would say that is a big dislike for me: organized religion. I think religion has caused way more problems throughout history than almost anything else. I am agnostic to the core. However, I would absolutely say that any human should be able to worship anything at all without persecution. Too bad this is often not the case :-(

I'm happy for you!

Thanks! I did get hit on a couple of times, so I did kind of stay a bit closer to who was my wife at the time :smt100

But the beer was good, and it was a very party atmosphere.

you dislike organized religion, and an agnostic. You believe that religion has caused way too many problems in this world, yet believe that our original Constituion was good.

I hope you realize that many of our founding fathers were god fearing men and used religious beliefs/doctrine in the creation of our constitution. Our Constitution is still the greatest governing document ever written and is not outdated. It has been perverted and twisted by the courts over the years (the same can be said about religion at times), this is when the trouble occurs.

The other countries you previoulsy mentioned hate us! Well I say let them. Next time they need our help, let them beg! Last time i checked, France would be speaking German, if not for our help! They don't even make the best wine anymore (pompous a$$holes)!

And these jerkoffs in mayanmar (Burma) don't want our help! Let's take our supplies/money/people and let them figure it out on there own. the USA is the most generous country on this planet. Of course they hate us, they're jealous.

Agnostic is not any kind of organized religion, but a belief that there may be a higher power, but we are not and may not be able to be aware of it. It could be a diety, it could be stardust. It could be nothing. Our original constitution was a good framework for government. Heck, it has to be, it did result in one of the best systems in history.

Our Constitution is still the greatest governing document ever written and is not outdated. The one aspect of religion that was it's penultimate contribution was the formation of society and morals. It explained many things since that have been explained by science, and it is no longer necessary for any other reason than perhaps a moral compass. I have more or less always felt religion is the crutch to accept our own mortality. We simply need to believe in something to validate our existence. SO yes, while the constitution and our nation was founded "under god", there are related only because of circumstance.
The other countries you previoulsy mentioned hate us! Well I say let them. Next time they need our help, let them beg! Last time i checked, France would be speaking German, if not for our help! They don't even make the best wine anymore (pompous a$$holes)!
Living in the '40's does not make us the noble country we suppose ourselves to be. Nor does the fact that we produce less and less every year and consume more. We can isolate ourselves and continue to have a superior attitude base don our own belief that we are #1, but factually we are part of a world economy where many other nations are either catching up or surpassing us in many ways.
And these jerkoffs in mayanmar (Burma) don't want our help! Let's take our supplies/money/people and let them figure it out on there own. the USA is the most generous country on this planet. Of course they hate us, they're jealous.
We are NOT the most generous country in the world per capita. This is a huge misnomer. We donate a huge amount, more than I think we should (im not big on charity when we have problems at home) but we are in 12th place per capita, which is the important number. I do agree, aid to ALL other countries needs to be cut down a bit when our own infrastructure and needs are not being met.

You guys having fun yet?

I like most everything

I dislike this 1 on 1 thread discussion

What is wrong with 1 on 1 debate? It is healthy and mind expanding as well as educational for all parties involved. I have learned many things on bulletin boards debating, have changed my mind on some aspects and solidified my thoughts and points of views on others. More than once I learned I was wrong about something and more than once have shown others that maybe they were wrong on some points.

Otherwise we may as well just post something and ignore all responses.

If it is not your cup of tea, you are more than welcome to ignore the thread.

I'm normally not up for that either. I guess a few buttons were pushed!

*sigh* no buttons are ever pushed, it is enjoyable to me to discuss some topics other than why my bilge pump doesnt work or a radar arch sometimes.

I like hearing opinions and learning about people.

DOnt take anything I say or argue about personally. I'd sit with anyone here and discuss anything in person over a beer and have the same conversation and still walk away liking you the same.

This is enjoyable to me. I enjoy people (just not dogs!)

I made no reference to 1 on 1 debate or debates in general. I stated I do not like the 1 on 1 in this thread.

I too enjoy a good debate.

I thought we were just throwing out generalizations of what we like and don't like. That the word Lord and Christianity has hit a few buttons is comical. No one seems to be commenting on my love of Sea Rays.... Nor my hatred of animals... PETA?? anyone??

I'm not going to push my religion on anyone here, but I also don't need to hear that my religion is merely a moral compass that has been 'explained by science' to the point of becoming irrelevant. Funny that the minute someone mentions their faithfulness, someone else feels that it is their duty to tear it apart.

Bottom line, my likes and dislikes haven't changed, nor will they be by anyone else's comments posted on an internet boating forum.

I agree that a good debate can be a great time, but challenging one's beliefs in this sort of setting will just cause drama.

 What 1 on 1 do you not like in this thread then? Im confused a bit.

There is a difference between debate and judgment/criticism. If one's beliefs are founded on facts, versus opinion, debate away. Otherwise it's merely an opinion, and like aholes, we all have one. You cannot, IMHO, debate an opinion.
