What I like and dont like

I thought we were just throwing out generalizations of what we like and don't like. That the word Lord and Christianity has hit a few buttons is comical. No one seems to be commenting on my love of Sea Rays.... Nor my hatred of animals... PETA?? anyone??

I'm not going to push my religion on anyone here, but I also don't need to hear that my religion is merely a moral compass that has been 'explained by science' to the point of becoming irrelevant. Funny that the minute someone mentions their faithfulness, someone else feels that it is their duty to tear it apart.

Bottom line, my likes and dislikes haven't changed, nor will they be by anyone else's comments posted on an internet boating forum.
Im sorry, I didnt mean to make this an actual *gasp* conversation. Inherently, I figured some points may come up for everyone that they want to discuss more, not just me.
What is it with "pushing a few buttons"...geez, dont you guys ever talk about such subjects with your friends? Maybe I have odd friends, but besides the usual minutia, we do get into some deep conversations over a vast variety of subjects. Then we agree to either disagree, agree, or understand each other a bit more. In the end, we still go play ice hockey or have a beer.

I wasnt trying to tear anyone's religion up or do anything else but give my opinion. I have subjected myself as well to scrutiny by stating my beliefs. Had I wanted to be malicious or down trod, I would not have stated my belief for the sake of conversation.

Man, tough crowd. I thought I would actually get some intellectually stimulating conversation going here on subjects that have not come up on CSR. When we discuss these things on other boards it is a give and take, not an argument.

That was my hope for here.

There is a difference between debate and judgment/criticism. If one's beliefs are founded on facts, versus opinion, debate away. Otherwise it's merely an opinion, and like aholes, we all have one. You cannot, IMHO, debate an opinion.

So according to your definition, religion, abortion, space exploration, spirituality, love, racism, and a whole host of other subjects should not be discussed or debated in any way.

Got ya.

Im am not exactly sure where I criticized or judged, unless you feel that is the same as an opinion?

I like Pie

I hate Drama (unless Gary is involved...)

Sorry thats about as intellectually stimulating as I can manage....

I would say "I will try harder", but lets not kid ourselves :)

In my threads, pretty much anything goes and Im fine with it. Post about Count Chocula for all I care.:smt038

Nope, did not state that.

Nope, did not state that.

So can you clarify? You stated you cannot debate an opinion...I completely disagree.

Example: Debate if there is a god or not
Example: debate the 55 mph speed limit.

I loved Lucky Charms as a kid. Except after eating all the marshmallows you were stuck with wheaty, graining yuck.

I say we take him 70 miles offshore fishing and go through a squall... he'll believe in God real quick.

Religion is about the only subject I can think of that should not be debated without more interaction on both sides. A face to face, with research capabilities close at hand, is about the only setting in which I would debate my religion against someone else's belief. An internet forum is incapable of showing rhyme or reason to one's thought process, and rarely allows someone to truly get out what they are trying to say.

Any other subject I am game for.

My 3 year old boy loves Lucky charms, and does the same exact thing. I did as a kid too. He eats all around the actual cereal part...looks up at me and says "more please" lol

Damn FDA....what cant they ALL be marshmallows!!!!

Not for a second would I believe any differently than I do now. :smt001

What research capabilities would you need? When we discuss religion among my friends and family, from all backgrounds from catholic (I even went to catholic school believe it or not!), to agnostic, to jewish and islamic and variations between, we discuss whats in our hearts and minds, not what a book tells us.

Now that is something that I can agree on whole heartedly.

It goes along with the question of "Why is the rum always gone?"

I stole it from the Simpsons, truth be told lol. It was Homer lamenting.

But I thought it was an awesome line!

Ok, you can all gang up on me tomorrow, I am out of here for the day and wont be online. I have to go kill some snakes for my sacrifice to Ra tonight.

Oh, I mean I have hockey tonight.

Peace out...Ill be back tomorrow.

Just keep in mind, I have come to enjoy all of you and respect your opinions and thoughts. Otherwise I would have had 5 posts and left. I think there is a good group of peeps here, and nothing I write should ever be taken personally. I can be abrasive perhaps, and have a "say what is on your mind" problem...no sugarcoating for the most part from me.

Like it or ignore it.:smt001

You are religious. You have the God Father as your avatar!

A face to face, with research capabilities close at hand, is about the only setting in which I would debate my religion against someone else's belief.

There's a reason it's called faith. You believe or you don't - research isn't really required.

As an old Southern Boy, it's all pretty simple:
God
Country
Family

Sorry Bill - I'm just plain folk.

Not research capabilities to tell us what we think, but rather, back up what one person says vs another. Too quickly religious debate jumps to statistics, facts, history, and science. Without proof from one side or another or reference to that proof, the conversation gets no where very very quickly.
