What about those of us who tow to the water? Lets see your tow rigs.

how does your ram 2500 handle it? Awesome looking boat, and truck. They match too..accident or did you buy as combo?

Handles it great. I had a blue '04 Durango Hemi when I bought the 268...and when I upgraded trucks a few months later I had to get a blue one. Just so happened to be the closest one to me with the specs I wanted.

With the Durango it was doable going to our local lakes...the 2500 you can barely tell its back there.

I do not have a pix. but I surprise a lot of people when I easily pull my 250 Sea Ray Sorrento 1988 with my Acura 2007 MDX. out of the ramp. People sometimes stop and stare while I am pulling my boat out of the water, but I have the last laugh. This suv has 300hp. and all wheels drive, and a lot of torque. Cocohi8662:grin:

That's too funny. My wife and I were looking at one today and were wondering how it would pull Old Skool. At 5 feet less than yours, I guess it would do fine. I now use the Windstar and it does a good job. Scroll back through this tread and you'll see it.

My only reservation would be in braking effort. I know with trailer brakes it would most likely do a good job but what if the trailer brakes failed?

It's not the pulling...it's the stopping.

No problem stopping, have a 4 wheels disk brakes trailer, I pulled the tires and check the brakes before I towed the boat the first time, I am an old salty (70 years young). Cocohi8662

For my curiosity, what's the tow rating on that Acura? Must be pretty stout to be towing a 25 footer. It does seem like the older boats weigh quite a bit less than the newer boats though....

I believe the MDX with tow package is rated for 4500 lbs.

I don't have any pics but, I have been towing 77 weekender 24'with a 2000 merc mountaneer V8 AWD. The merc is rated at 6400 lb tow. How much does my boat weight?? boat and trailer 5200/5800 lb? I really do not know. any one know?

The towing rate by the owners manual is 5,000 lbs. but I have no trouble pulling my 25 Sorrento 1988 who weights 5500 lbs. without gas, water or people on it. The manufacturers usually state less weight for legal purposes or for warranty purposes.

Our ramp is not that steep, but if it's at all wet & I try to back down too quickly & try to stop the boat will drag the truck down the ramp.

Granted I at least have trailer brakes going forward but I have a tremendous amount of respect for the weight of the boat vs the stopping ability of my truck :smt001

Don't forget the weight of the trailer. Also, what is the receiver hitch, ball mount, and trailer ball rated for?

How do you know that manufacturers lower their ratings for legal purposes or for warranty purposes? Have you read that somewhere?

My long term goal is to move up to a mid to late 80's 268DA so a couple of weeks ago I was looking at Fords new F250's. The truck was rated @ ~10,000# but the salesman said it could easily handle 13,000# because they rate them lower.
I tow my 95 200BR with a Chev Silverado with the factory heavy duty tow package and it's rated for 7100#. The dry weight for my boat is 3000#, and I figure my EZ Loader trailer is 2000# so even though I am well under my towing max, I definitely know I am towing this boat.

My son has owned a boat repair shop for 12 years, we routinely see boats with twice more power than they are rated for and have yet to see a transom broken as a result of overpowering, do not forget that what the motor does is push the boat and transom so it's not pulling on the transom which might make a difference. (I am talking about outboards).

What's the relevance to this post or forum category?

I'm just glad I don't drive on the same roads as you. Overloading a tow vehicle by that much is just plain unsafe.

+1

7000lbs+ behind an Acura MDX? Keep that time bomb away from me.
