Wakeboarding threag

Bill, just watched your wakeboarding videos. Man, you make what you do look easy! I'm more like your buddy Erik; well maybe not entirely. I can stay straight and within the wake and can go whichever direction I want, am somewhat stable, but still a bit too wobbly to just relax like you do. I'm still just concentrating on staying upright and trying to chill.

I think your rope is considerably shorter than mine; not sure if that's good or bad. Looks like you have more of a wake around you than me, which is probably a good thing for me.

Thanks for the compliment!:smt001

Just remember I had already a couple of good summers going every other day or so. I mean it was about 15 years ago, but its like riding a bike in a way. So I already kinda had a foundation to start from. I was able to do much more back then! lol

As long as your having fun, thats all that matters!

Yes! Shorten your rope a bit, it does help! Next time Im out ill measure (been meaning to anyway) and let you know.

New Vid...Well not really new, actually older. 4th session out this year, but found it and uploaded it last night. Forgot about this vid.

Anyway, I went out yesterday, Matt driving. My riding has improved dramatically. I landed quite a few 180 TS to HS wake to wake, and once out in the flats. Matt is landing wake to wake every time now perfectly.

I am also getting just SICK air now. Way out in the flats and wicked high.

No vid, but will be going out tue or weds and we will be filming again. Im very excited!!

On the downside, my bindings ripped, up in the finger holes to pull the boot on...grrrrr! New bindings over the winter, thats for sure!

Bill , do you have a place to get parts? I lost one of the boot bolts (screw? thingy that ya twist to hold the boot on the board doodad) Don't have a board shop around to ask them.

What manufacturer do you have (board AND bindings) and Ill see if I have any that fit...got a couple extra on some older boards I could mail ya.

Or take a pic of the screw and measure it?

Im not sure how "standard" any of it is, thats my one fear. I never really looked. More than likely, just email the board company...Im very sure they would send you some replacements. Tell them "how much I love this board but I cant ride it now...."

Always remember, before every session...tighten those down!!!

umm..yeah...heh..thankfully it was my son-in-law that was on the board when it came off so I can give him the grief. I'll have to check when I get to the lakehouse. I'm pretty sure the boots are Liquid Force. I had another smaller pair of bindings but the screw was too short for the LF.

Ok I just have to ask. Maybe your joke went over the top of my head.

How is Threa"d" against your religion:huh: I thought you were a god father type person, (Although you have recently changed your signature and picture) so that would have to be Catholic.

I have found the following online store to be very helpful, not to mention good prices. They do carry the binding screws.

My wife, wakeboarding. 3rd time out yesterday, and she did awesome! For xmas I am buying her a board. Right now she borrows Slackers.

She loves this sport, and is excited to get better at it. She just needs to start "standing tall" a bit more...she has that leaned over beginner thing going still.

Anyway, proud of her! As usual, there is a High Quality vid available if you click on it below right of video. After 2 attempts, she did a minute and half run until she got exhausted!

PS...Matt...Ill have yesterdays sessions up in a day or two...Amy had nothing up yet, so she gets priority. Plus, she gets priority 'cause she's my wife too :) Youre vid looks good!

Hmmm. I haven't tried this yet, but it looks a lot like slalom skiing(I've done that for 40 yrs), is it? Difference seems to be your feet aren't straight in back of one another.

In the old days, we skied on anything, including a round saucer piece of plywood, that was challenging, worst part, was, if you didn't get the angle right, it flew out from under you, I don't think we used boots on it if I remember correctly.

No...completely different than slalom. Totally different feel and riding, and really purpose of riding. My neighbor Al is an insane slalom skier, and he is switching over as in comparison, if I may be so bold having done that as well, slalom is boring as heck.

With wakeboarding, the idea is tricks and air. Slalom is point a to point b as fast and hard as you can cut.

Speaking of the days gone by, there are vids on youtube I watched from 20 years ago et al of people doing exactly what you state...using tobaggans, plywood, snow sleds etc...pretty fun!

Once you wakeboard, you will never go back to ski(s)!

Only the rich kids had boots on their round saucers:lol:. It is different than slalom skiing. I found that out the hard way after a couple face plants.:smt009:smt100:smt013

re: face plants... yeah, that's what I'm thinking... I've played with snowboarding, and I can go pretty fast, doing turns and all, as long as I stay off my toe edge... then I hit the slope fast and hard... and end up with black & blue arms and chest, and have had my teeth jossled around a bit, to the point, it was tingly. Although this shouldn't hit as hard (and there are no trees nearby, well, there shouldn't be ) My sons wakeboard with their friends, I just haven't tried it yet. Maybe this weekend or next, we'll see, I've gotta talk to a friend and see if I can borrow theirs.

The round plywood was fun, because you could spin around on it, and it didn't have a skeg(?), so it didn't matter, just had to keep your balance.

The faceplants on a wakeboard are much more forgiving than on snow...that is for sure!

Try it...really. I forgot how much I loved doing this sport until after 15 years I decided to buy a boat to do it again. Everyday I contemplate going out.

The whole wake board thing reminds me of the wooden trick skies from Cypress Gardens we had as kids many years ago. Even had one that you could slalom on when you dropped the other. The wake boards seems to give you more control on cutting since the trick skies did not have skegs. Yes the old round boards were fun, hey we even skied on big old 8' surf boards.
