I really dont see a section or thread devoted to wakeboarding, and if it should go in another section, feel free to move it...

ANyway, so lately I have really been bitten by the bug hard. If anyone remembers, I posted a while ago about my past wakeboarding experiences 15+ years ago and being a younger guy with 20+ lbs less on my body was able to do quite a few tricks back then.

Fast forward to present day.

We bought the boat more or less for family fun, and selfishly at first specifically for me to get back into this sport. Of course since then it has become the complete family boat and I share it with them

THis thread is for your experiences and advice, equipment, ideas, thoughts, brag latest trick you pulled off, help, pics etc...

So Im going out today, leaving work at around 330 or so to do a few sessions.

After going out 4 times now in actual sessions, (and another 2 or 3 just goofing around) I am back to pulling off 180's on toe and heelside and landing them pretty consistently.

I cannot emphasize enough how the dvd "the book" collection has got me used to the new shaped boards and how to work them.

I am excited today to get out and do some drills, practice the 180's to perfection, and start attempting the 360 on heelside.

What about any of you boarders out there?

Pic from the fist session in 15 years, taken almost 2 months ago. Ill get some new ones next time out with a spotter (going out, just Al and I, so no way to take pics :-(

Re: Wakeboarding thread

Well, this past week I had my second time ever on a wakeboard. First time being last fall. Previous to all that was about 25 years ago on a pair of skis when I was a kid behind my parents boat. I can't go too often as I have to either wait out the jellyfish, or find a place way up-river where they aren't, such as what we did this last time.

I went 4 times. Got up easily all four times. But I'm just trying to keep my balance at this point! All four tries I attempted to go outside the wake. First time, I tried going right and crashed just past the wake. The rest of the tries, I went left and succeeded. But I have a couple of short videos of my crashes. I'll have to get them uploaded to YouTube.

Tried to teach my brother-in-law how to get up, but no luck. I have about seven five-second video clips of the boat launching and some water being plowed... he gave up.

I'll get back once I have the video ready.

Cool Gunn! Id love to see the vids!

Keep going, it gets real fun, real fast once you land that first wake to wake jump, then increasingly fun each new trick.

I plan on getting some vids once we go out again with a spotter, and Ill start you tubing it.

PS...the spelling is fine, I label a thread as a "threag". Just something I have done for years to mark them for myself, and it is bad luck to name such threag as a "thread". Ok, well, I am a little odd.

Wakeboarding sucks! Try a real sport:)

ya, step on the ice then biotch. Get your moldy equipment out and get a taste of boards and glass :) That real enough?

Hey! Wait! I think I have seen you wakeboard! You're just trying to bait me!

Good to see a thread about this. I just took up boarding a couple of months ago. First time out was rough just trying to get up, but after finally getting up I get up everytime now.

Bill we sound similar except I used to waterski 15 years ago. Same fastforward and weight gain now taking this up. Ive gotten in a few small jumps and gonna work on some surface tricks Ive been reading about. I also bought "The Book" just waiting for it to come in. My wife took some small videos of me last time, but Im not showing my wipeouts and faceplants lol

Awesome Ken!

At my age, and I assume yours, we ain't gonna be pulling off inverts and 720's anytime soon! lol..especially only going out once a week or so.

I am bummed...me and Slacker (Matt) and a couple of others had plans to go out today after work early until dark, but it is looking like a f'n washout. Boooooo!!

I have some vids from last week, I think ill you tube them tonight. A couple of good wake to flat jumps, and 180's. I am desperate to pull off the wake to wake 180 toe to heelside instead of in between the wakes, and really want to nail a 360 in the next month.

Getting water time is the tough part with 3 kids and when we do get out, we end up having 6 people that wan tto board, ski and tube, then go raft up. I know I could do any of these tricks if I could just get out for more than just an hour every couple of weeks it seems.

DAMN RAIN TODAY!!!!

Have you guys ever wake skated? That looks to have a lower barrier to entry than wake boarding.

no, for the limited time I have been getting, I really want to improve my boarding, so havent tried anything else. I truly want to get better at boarding since I enjoy it so much. Its the reason I wanted the boat in the first place

Have you tried it at all? Are you going to?

Thats been my biggest problem Bill, getting enough time on the board to learn. We've only been out 4 times this summer and the first time I spent learning to get up. I do find it alot easier than skiing on 1, but having done that before it has helped me alot boarding. I did try a butterslide last time out, took alot of tylenol to get rid of the headache the faceplant gave me

lol...tylenol works well!

When you get "the book", really take the time to do the drills. It helps a lot! The first run I make now, I always do the warm ups...slides, switchfoot etc...makes a big difference. So for about 15-20 minutes, the boat is going slow, and I do the drills, not very exciting, but definitely improving my riding. Then the next person goes while I rest, then the next run I make I up it to doing whatever I want.

Im praying for a break in the rain today after work, and I JUST might make it! watching radar very closely!

Im looking forward to getting it and learning. I know I have alot to learn, but it should be fun. Im not doing this by myself, I have my son, 2 nephews and my brother in law as well. We all startd out at the same time, so its been alot of fun. I dont remember being as sore at 20 as I am at 40 lol

Cool! much more fun when there are others...one of the guys coming out tonight tried and got up for the first time this past saturday...my bud Jerry...pic attached of him half excited, half scared!!!

I hear ya...same here with recovery time. Im 39 and what a difference in both boarding and especially more in ice hockey. We play full contact checking as we have all been playing our whole lives...so everyone knows the game and how to hit safely, but no matter what, the next couple of days...ouch!

Looks like the rain is letting up for us here! Calls coming in left and right, we SHOULD be on the river around 530, 4 of us boarding...woohoo!

Gotta get a boat before I can do any boarding. Is a 340 too big? Likely.
Honestly dont know...I guess really it depends on the wake it puts out...how wide it is, etc...I would try it!

Few wakeboard on our lake, no one wake skating. I've been told is it's easier for a boat to pull up a boarder than a skiier. Is that right?

Hmmm, yea, i would have to say I agree with that. Once you know how to get up on a board, it is usually just popping up with almost no effort.

Id say during the learning process it is almost about equal "strain" on a boat. Boarders and skiers will both plow the water pretty good when starting out.

Cool. Thanks for the info. When I get a boat, then we'll get started. We did ski behind our 250, but a 340 will certainly be too big for that. Should throw up a nice wake, though.

Thats what I would think...the wake may be too much for skiing:huh:but might actually be cool for boarding. Never tried behind anything bigger than around 23' runabout so dont know for sure.

AT least video it when trying so we can see!
