This Smoking Ban Craze Has Gone Too Far!

Oh... and I think there should be a new law. If you are a chick, and you stomach sticks out further than your boobs... it should be against the law to wear a half t-shirt.

Which half ?

Hello,

While I support a person's right to smoke outside, I am DAMN tired of seeing discarded butts all over the place. Smoker's have brought this on themselves in many cases/places (such as beaches) for leaving their disgusting butts all over the place.

Every day that we spend at the island, we walk and clean up the beach. My wife and tease that the "Cigarette Butt" fairy visits and makes all of those disgusting butts simply disappear during the night. So now you know, I am the cigarette butt fairy - but only with my wife.

Please, Please don't post any pictures in your costume.
:lol::smt043:lol:

But thanks for your service.

For those who choose to smoke...should there be any restrictions? If so, how far should the restrictions extend? Do you accept that the pastime is dangerous and that there is a social cost borne by your community in excess of the taxes levied on the product? If so, how would you address those costs?

Yeah... There should be some restrictions. If you own a building, then you, and only you should decide if smoking is allowed inside of that building. If a business owner chooses to let people smoke in his or her establishment, then you as a non-smoker have every right to not do business there. Restriction by ecomonics.

Outdoors... We all smell shuff we don't like from time to time. Sitting next to a bus a at red light, driving past the "eggs" on 695 in Dundalk (inside local knowlegde required to get that one), driving through dust clouds from road construction, dead fish smell, Indian food, etc.. Just hold your breath for a second and pass on through. And for cryin' out loud. In all of these situations, get upwind if possible.

Outdoor bans like the OP mentioned are just another example liberals in power getting their kicks controlling the lemmings any way they can.

The "costs" are a wash. As others have mentioned, everyone reading this post will get killed by something sooner or later. Cancer treatments of any kind are expensive, dialasys is expensive, elder care is expensive (if you are lucky enough to have old age kill you), life savings attempts after a serious accident are expensive. None of these are any less expensive than any treatment of a smoking related disease, so the "costs" that have been touted as being "borne by society" are nothing more than fodder for the lemmings.

Let's turn this around:

  • Fat people get more heart disease. We should tax every citizen $50 a pound for every pound over 180 each month because fat people cost the rest of us a lot of money when they get diabetes and heart disease. Not to mention the extra wear and tear on the roads, sidewalks, public toilets, and beach sand compaction. They also displace more water when swimming, which causes shoreline erosion, so we need an extra $5/month for road maintenance, an extra $2/month in sidewalk maintenance, and extra $1 per month for the toilets, and an annual $100 permit for swimming in any body of water to save the shoreline. Anyone under 180lbs should get a $20 per pound per month refund.
  • Gay people get AIDS more often. $200/month gayness tax
  • Drinkers get more liver problems. An extra $10 per 5th...
  • Boaters just have too much fun... One extra boat buck a year "fun" tax to give to poor, urban, boatless, hoodlums.

You wouldn't happen to be running for public office anywhere, would you?

Comparing it to "fat people" and "liver issues" and "boaters having fun" is pure stupidity. The kind of stupidity that is common among those trying to make a point without a clue. Those analogies make no sense because none of those scenarios affect the health of others around them. And that is the issue.
When your right to do as you want affects the safety and rights of others, then your rights cease to exist. Period.
That is the impetus behind the restrictions, bannings, etc.

Here is a excerpt from the above link:

" Of course, smoking can be harmful--in certain quantities, over a certain period of time, it can be habit forming and lead to disease or death. But many understandably regard the risks as minimal if one smokes relatively infrequently, and they see smoking as offering definite value, such as physical pleasure.
Are they right? Can it be a value to smoke cigarettes--and if so, in what quantity? This is the sort of judgment that properly belongs to every individual, based on his assessment of the evidence concerning smoking’s benefits and risks, and taking into account his particular circumstances.."

Smoking's benefits????? Physical pleasure??? Can anyone here please outline for us the possible benefits?? I asked this question myself 7 pages ago yet no one has addressed it. Please enlighten us.

Ever sat next to a fat guy on a long flight?

Just sitting here smoking wondering why none of you are at the lake..........

He's back:smt021.......

Some of us had hoped you would stay away like you said you would a few pages back. You have already lost the argument since you are totally off topic. The topic of this thread is about the loss of rights and freedoms.
