The "Weathermen Suck" Thread

could someone direct me to the thread that describes the whole "square" thing and what it means. i must've been out sick that day.

Weathermen got it 'right' and not 'right' this weekend on Lower Lake Michigan, for once.
But I'm not complaining.

Said Fri and Sat would be nice.
Really was beautiful with a southerly wind to keep the chop down.
Said Sunday storms would move in.
Hmmm. Spent the day using about 1/4 of the $500.00 of fossil fuel I put in the boat and the rest of the day on hook at the beach.
Nary cloud in the sky.

Just wish I hadn't run out of cold beer by 6pm.
Especially considering Indiana is a dry state on Sunday.

Up in CT, they actually had it pretty close, but turned out a bit better than what they were saying.

They used their ace in the hole "scattered thunderstorms 30% chance of precipitation". And we got a scattered thunderstorm or two over the weekend.

A cute side note: We taught my son to say "30% chance of thunderstorms" when we ask what the weather will be today for going out on the boat.

Gary I think you must have been watching this guy.

Weathermen Suck! I thought of this thread at about 1300 today...

So we had plans to take my Mom and Grandfather out for some fishing today in the lower Potomac. At 9:00am this morning I check the marine forecast on the Boat US website and at http://www.wunderground.com .

"Winds South 5-10kts, waves 1ft. or less."

That's the standard forecast in that area. So you really don't know what you're going to get. Seems good.

So we head out and it's not too bad. But it was just about high tide, with the tide and wind moving together. I figured the waves may build once they started working against each other. We headed down to the Point Lookout area to a local hotspot, where the rest of the boats on the river were also.

Shortly after sitting there the waves were really building, the winds blowing pretty strong. So It's now 1:00pm and I tune to the weather on VHF.

"Small craft advisory in effect. Winds south, gusting to 20knots. Waves 1-2ft."

Nice! So here I am in the wide, lower Potomac in my 18' bowrider, in a small craft advisory! Slowly, all the other boats start to head upriver. There were even a couple of smaller boats around, believe it or not. So, we pack up and make our way back. It wasn't a bad ride as the winds and waves were with our direction; more like surfing than anything.

But man, I'd sure like to find someone to yelll at that put out that forecast today! :smt013

Oh, and we didn't catch a thing!!

I saw this today and had to add it.:smt043

We had a waterspout coming across Hampton Roads and I ran down below to grab my camera and by the time I got back to the bridge, it was broken up... oh well...

Left Jamestown over an hour ago, lightening popping every where. Last one hit the swamp grass and blew the power to the dock. All this and only a 20% chance of rain! I did get to clean the carpet and vacuum. Four Suns....be safe!
