Yesterday's forecast for today: Sunny; no mention of rain.

No fireworks.

I wish I could have chosen a profession wrought with such stupidity.

Up in Baltimore (Middle River) they were calling for rain on and off. Had 5 hours of midday sunshine. Now hoping tomorrow night works out for the fireworks.

Baseball is the only other profession where you can be wrong 50% of the time and still be employed.. a 500 hitter is in the hall of fame. The weather people suck:smt021

Learn to make your own forecasts. Take a weather course through the Power Squadron. Study the local patterns of weather; so many of the local TV weather readers are not local, and have no memory of the local patterns. I can almost guarantee you'll do a better job than they do. Oh, and the NOAA forecasts on the WX bands are usually more reliable than TV as well.

I found out a couple of years ago that you never trust a weather forcast on a holiday weekend. They always predict great weather right up until the night before the weekend then everything changes. It's almost like some sort of cruel joke or something for them. So I try to not listen to the weather until the night before the weekend.

They were predicting Thunderstorms for today all week long and I didn't see the first drop until about 10:00 PM.

holy moly what a night we had. I'm still trying to absorb it and in the morning asses the damage to my boat. Mostly a fantastic night till the end when a POS nearly killed us. Its late and I'm going to bed. But i can tell you it involves sex, freaks, fireworks, a few people nearly drowning and things flying off boats that were never intended to fly. Oh and a drunk guy in a thong.

Are you trying to hi-jack my thread or does your weatherman wear a thong?

oh and there was rain and fog involved. So we are still on track.

Shoot... I have a weather station on the dock, one on the boat, XM weather and WxWorx software, Internet access so I can go see NOAA products, listen to WX station on the VHF, and I think they are still idiots. I always try and do my own work as these guys, even at NOAA, can't look out the window (that works too).

For example, it has been raining here now for 8 hours... And I just went to NOAA and here's the map:

Note in SE Virginia the dotted line that says "No Precip"... and here's the current sat image (infrared):

Note blob of stuff over SE Virginia... that's clouds and rain and thunderstorms... It's just sitting there taunting me too.

What moron would look at the sat picture, along with the observations, and draw that "no precip" line on the map? ? Huh? HELLO?!

Oh.. they did update the "written" forecast to say "Thunderstorms Likely" for tomorrow.

I see the guys in NY have flash flooding going on because of the rain..

We got hammered by the Bay storms as well. We got out early and rafted up with my old 260DA for the afternoon...had a great time. Checked the weather every half hour or so, but it seemed all the action was south of us (i.e. in Gary's backyard). Around 1730 we broke up intending to tour Solomons before heading back to the slip to cook dinner and watch the fireworks. Saw some rain on my little 2kw radar so elected to return straight to the slip. Got in without trouble...here's where I screwed up. I had just stowed the camper canvas (rolled up in sheets and moved to the centerline locker) a few days before, as we typically use the cockpit cover when it gets really hot out. So I didn't want to break all the canvas out, and convinced myself it would just be a bit of rain. Tried watching the local news (we have DirecTv in the slip) and lost the signal due to rain fade just as the weather forecast was about to come up. My second chance missed.

It rained buckets, soaking everything in the cockpit. Everyone was safe and sound below, for some reason I stayed up in the cockpit. Did I mention I brought a cold back with me from NY last week?

Rain finally stopped around 2030, pulled the carpets to bring home, towel dried everything else, got the cover on and got the truck loaded. No one knew if the Solomons fireworks would still happen...we finally left around 0915 and as we got home it sounded like they may have started 15 minutes later. Figures.

It could have been worse. While loaded the truck we watched a truck pull another truck and a boat on a trailer up the boat ramp...seems they backed down too far in the rain and nearly submerged everything. Bunch of kids. Once pulled clear, they kept turning over the truck hoping it would start. Brackish water = "It's dead, Jim"

Steady Drizzle on the Potomac most of the afternoon. Arrived early at "our spot" and watched the antics of folks trying to anchor in the muck

Learned my lesson couple years back and had almost 9:1 scope on it. Made friends with a new to him 280 owner and we rafted up since he couldnt get his anchor to stick. Same with 36foot bayliner... cool guy tho with a family. It was his first boat, got him to thinking about moving over to SeaRay... Told him it was the SUPER SECRET SPECIAL SeaRay anchor that was holding all 3 of us.

Going back to the dock was worse than usual, after about 3 calls to 3 different boats about "Hey Captain, you do know that boats are NOT equipt with headlights" I gave up. Turns out the morons slip at my marina! Bastiges followed me all the way home. I gotta find a new place to watch the fireworks next year!

Yes, weathermen suck, until they get it right :)

After more than 12 hours of rain here, they have now updated the forecast to "heavy rain" for today. YIPPEEE! They looked out the window!!!

Maybe now it will be sunny.

Mark, which was the commercial, the clip for Arkansas tourism or the clip for AccuWeather?

I don't tune into a particular channel for weather because it has the hottest weatherbabe or the coolest weatherboy. I just want information -- the radar picture here and to the west of us, the current barometric reading and its trend, the current temp both wet and dry bulb, and the wind speed and direction. Put the babes and boys alike in foul weather gear, and then let's see which ones can deliver serious, accurate information. Oh, and Gary's right, put a window in their studio, facing west.

Not a bad few days at the National Harbor. We arrived thursday afternoon. Got a little rain yesteday evening, but the storm passed so the fireworks could go as scheduled. Raining this morning. Two bored kids on the 420. Guess we will tour the Gaylord, the Westin, and whatever else we can find to do, then perhaps take the water taxi over to Old Town. Boat is running fine. After 20 years of dealing with the USAF weather detachments which support the Army I am never too surprised by what the actual weather does compared to the "forecast"

For a change, they were wrong for the better here. Got to Caladesi Island State Park on Wed, 60% chance of rain predicted. Same prediction for the balance of the holiday weekend, but gradually got better and Friday there wasn't a cloud in the sky; turned out to be great beach weather.

What I find most annoying is that when they completely blow the forecast they come on the air the next day and pretend like nothing happened... it would be nice if -just once- they acknowledged that they f***** up.

I actually think that meteorologists are lawyers that couldn't finish law school.

All I did was read the title and laughed in agreement. So true for us as well. We got soaked on the water yesterday.
