I finally got my two hatches back from gelcoat and they turned out perfect. I then called on my decal/sticker guy to put the name on the hatch to match the work he did on the hailing port decal. With the original name that I put on the boat, I gave the company the dimensions and they produced the decal. I found that old invoice and sent the dimensions to my new guy to produce and install. Dummy me, I did not confirm the dimensions before sending it to him. He sent me these pictures showing it is too big. Now he has to make it the correct size and install it and I get a very large decal to put in my shop at home. o_O On a positive note, my new aftercoolers are being painted this week and should be installed by the end of the month, just in time for the season. :)

Bummer, got my fish box lid back yesterday. Also came out great and now made of coosa, not wood. Gonna need some cut and polish on the rest if the transom locker to get the finish to match up!

Just crossed from key west to Marco island with no issues. Once I get to Clearwater I will do the troubleshooting listed I gave all the busses a once over and seemed fine to this layman. I will check water tonight to verify levels but batteries are less than 6 months old. REALLY appreciate all the input. Will stop over in Captiva mon-tues. hoping to see Jack when I pass thru if he’s still there!

Electrical update:
Batteries are good (AGM)
No draw after turning off battery disconnects.
No (unexpected) draw after disconnects back on and switches turned on one at a time.

Almost have convinced myself the starter switch (or something along that path) may be acting up? Had the starboard startup issue again. Hit the start switch and the bridge voltage meter went to zero, no start on the engine. Didn't touch a thing after it failed to start and went to the interior distribution panel. Checked voltage there (with the DC power switch) and at the battery with my volt meter. All showed 12+ volts. Went back to bridge and hit the start switch again and it fired right up. Bad switch? Bad starter? Bad solenoid?

Thanks again to everyone for their input. I plan on making the hop from Clearwater to Carrabelle this weekend, weather permitting.

@Forrestkk, still owe you that beer. When I get closer to Destin, will contact you.

I would guess the switch on the bridge. Could swap the port and starboard and see if the problem follows.

That said, you are correct that you have two more solenoids. The one on the starter, and the contactor near the starter that is controlled by the switch on the bridge to energize the starter solenoid.

Being that the guage is going to zero, my money is on the helm switch.

Weather is garbage up here in Destin, heavy wind out of the north east.

Safe travels!

Happy Easter everyone! I made it down to the boat today to inspect the final product on the new lettering. I took a couple of pictures of the fish locker lid to share. I’m happy with the results!

Another update.:) My mechanic called me on Friday the 14th and gave me the good news that the aftercoolers were installed and the boat was ready! We made a trip to the marina on Saturday and did a shake down cruise over to the Queen Mary and listened to the race cars at the Long Beach Grand Prix. No problems with the boat other than the starboard engine was running a few degrees higher than I remember from 6 months ago. When I say "a few" it was maybe 5 degrees. When I got back to the slip, I checked the coolant and it was a little low. I'm guessing there might have been a bubble in the system. I added coolant and will monitor it closely. Great to be back on the water. :D

I noticed this 450 is for sale, "Third Times A Charm" with the large cockpit engine room hatch. I want to say it was for sale in the past. Here is a quote from the listing "The only 450 constructed with zero balsa wood coring and oversized cockpit engine hatch." List price is $350,000, located in Stuart, Florida.

Man, that hatch. That would be a dream...but I could have a 560 for that money.

I have seen these boats with speakers in the foot wells and they leak over everything. Hull may not be cored, but there will be water intrusion issues on the bow.

Grabbed a shot from the air on my way home.

Nice shots! Weather in this pic is MUCH nicer than when I passed thru a couple of weeks ago!

I finally made it from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Gulf Shores, AL. Two fairly long open water crossings and only one crab pot line wrapped around the prop. Didn't break anything and no mechanical issues! Put approx 45 hrs on the engines and about... well, let's not discuss the fuel price...
I love this boat! Plan on spending the rest of this year along the Gulf coast exploring and doing some upgrades that I've been saving for. Hope to see some of you on the water!

Question #1, why did you have to rebuild the engines??? Looks clean though.
We were already thinking about selling the boat. I discovered the Port engine had a cracked exhaust manifold and the head looked iffy, so I replaced them along with doing the turbo, injectors, fuel pump, cooler and heat exchanger and replaced all engine hoses. Basically the whole top of the engine. Along the theory what one engine needs the other might not be too away, I put on a new aftercooler and rebuilt the Turbo. Essentially did a 1000 hour service on the both engines. She's ready for her new home!

Art, are you looking at another boat to purchase?
