Tax refunds

Exactly!

I got $15 direct deposited from the US treasury.

I keep telling my buddies who are getting refunds that I want my money back.
You don't have any idea what your talking about. Your buddies are getting refunds and you think they're getting your money. You need to take the time to find out how things work, it would benefit you greatly.

I thought it was the people with the bigger boats send their extra money to the guys with the smaller boats so that we can get bigger boats and join the big boat diesel club.

Just a dumb fireman here but a good deal of this "Stimulus" money is going to people who didn't even pay income tax or those who paid significantly less than I did... and I'm not getting any "stimulus" money.. Guess I'll just continue to stimulate the economy the old fashion way... I'll work a bunch, spend my money and if I need to, I'll work more to buy what I want. Oh and that's all while paying for my mortgage to avoid asking for the government to bail me out and saving for retirement to avoid asking the government to bail me out. Woody, if I'm missing something please help me out here:huh:

If I were to get one, it would be a christmas present. I have had to file extensions for years now for one reason or another.

Tax refund or Stimulus check, it doesn't matter what you want to call it. It's just the Gov giving you back money you already earned and gave to them during the year.

It was your money in the first place!!!
Its a fuel subsidy check.

Yea Woody...You're going to have to help us out here. I'm not sure where else that money is comming from.

The OP labeled this thread refunds but it was clear he meant the economic stimulus. It was apparent by the posts of some others that they were confusing the two. I took Tims post to be about his tax refund for this year. If that was not the case I couldn't tell. I doubt that the rest of you guys need a lesson on withholding.

MXer, You guys had some excitement up the coast with the shark thing. Do you have to be watchfull in Misson Bay also?

Well, probably not. I usually go to the beach just about a mile south of Solana Beach (where the attack took place). As far as Mission Bay, I've seen Seals and Dolphins in there so I imagine a shark could wander in there. The bay is only about 10 to 15 feet deep so, we dont worry too much about Great White sharks getting in there. But the day after the attack we were on the bay...and none of my kids were getting in that water.

I read another attack took place today just south in Mexico. The young American died from blood loss. Terrible.

I live about 15 minutes from where last Fridays attack took place.

I got a cousin that lives by Ocean Beach Park and he's big into surfing. When I heard of that attack I had to wonder if anything with teeth ever eyeballed him as he was paddling around. That's part of the reason I sold my place in FL, large bull sharks were hanging around and it made me nervous. I never saw one while I was in the water but did see them a few times from the docks.

I think the cap was about 150,000 joint AGI somewhere around there, I know me and the admiral were pretty close the to cap.

ok, i'm no economics professor but i was only 8 credits shy of an economics MINOR at St. John's! we need to get our semantics ironed out..
1. you get a REFUND b/c your employer withheld MORE than you had to pay to the IRS. the overpayment will be refunded to you. it is YOUR money. as a side note, many feel that you would be better off getting NOTHING back, since that means you did not overpay and give the gov't an interest free loan for 12 months or so.
2. you get a STIMULUS CHECK because of the wonderful bipartisan plan that our leaders dreamed up to try and stimulate the economy out of the doldrums. the cut-off is $75000 if filing as a single (then you get $600), $150000 if married filing jointly (then you get $1200). added bonus!!!! if you qualify, you get an additional $300 per dependent child. if you made more than that, i believe there is a sliding scale that will get you LESS money.

chew on this... if folks who have no debt and piss the money away on a big screen TV and booze, will that spending "trickle down" eventually and actually improve the economy, or is is just a big waste of money that could have been better spent on a liberal (marxist?) agenda? i dont know. personally, i'd rather have tax cuts instituted, esp for small business, than a block of government cheese.

can we write in chuck heston in november? oh crap, that's right. he's dead. :smt009

Write him in anyway. Even dead, he makes more sense than some of the nimnuts we have in there now.

I just wish that the responsibility for sending in the taxes were not with the employer. We should all get our full pay, and then have to write the check to the gov't every week. Some people have no clue how much they really give away. At least making them write the check every week would provide some visibility to the issue. I'll bet even the folks in the lowest tax brackets would start squealin' like stuck pigs.

Having employers take the taxes out before people have a chance to hold it in their hands is the government equivalent of playing "hide the salami".

(yeah... I meant it like that....)
