No special tools, just regular mechanic tools. Pulley can stay on. A real bear to reach though. 3-4 hours labor and $60 in parts seems typical.
Batteries - once weak always weak. Replace them with good lead acid batteries and you will be fine. Never use the " both" setting unless both batteries are weak and you need to combine them to start the boat. That goes for running or on the hook.

The one thing I could not find in the wiring diagram is how the batteries are connected to the Alternator. I would assume that the alternator bypasses the switch and is connected to both batteries, but I have also been told not to switch the position of the switch while the engine was running because it could short the alternator out.
Do you have a diagram that shows this?
One of the Batteries is only a year old, I should get money back for that one.

What you are saying is that you are always on one battery or the other, running or stopped, and therefore you believe that they are both being charged when the engine is running independent of the switch position?
Just trying to make sure I understand.

Alternator charges the battery(s) selected on the switch.
Problem with running in both, is if one battery is bad it will prevent the other from charging also. You can move the switch while running as long as you do not cross the off position.

Thanks Paul!

Also, I'm not sure that the alternator, alone, will fully recharge your batteries - not unless you're making really long runs. What I have learned, partially from paulwagelock, is to always keep them on the smart charger.

Will someone see if they can find a DOT number on their 270 SLX walkthrough windshield? Thanks.

After six months of construction, my boathouse is finally done and she's hanging high!

Geeze LawyerMan...That certainly doesn't suck... Looks Awesome. You can color me envious. I see the Winch Hangers and rails are Through Bolted with plates. Well done sir! I think a boat house with a lift is the Ultimate way to enjoy a boat. No slip hassles, no Tow motor soot/scrapes, no rush-rush-rush at the dock to get things loaded/unloaded, you get to operate when you want to, for as long as you want to.

Now if you have a lake house too...Well then....

That's totally my dream. A lake house with a screened in porch that overlooks the lake, a boathouse with a lift, a nice patio to grill on, and have a Cigar/adult beverage, that also over looks the lake, and a really nice boat, well maintained and clean year round.
I'm working on it...

You built it wide enough to fit the 350SLX, right?

JK, looks very nice.

43 hours this summer and hit my first real mechanical issues this weekend. So sad. Ruined a fun day today. Luckily it died at the dock.

Started Friday night with an overheat alarm (which I think was separate. I think water intake was blocked). Worked fine after we let it cool down.

Then Saturday I noticed a rough idle. Stalled shortly after that, got back to the dock and it stalled just as soon as I kicked it into neutral at the slip. Tried to restart and would turn over 1-3 times before I'd hear a metallic click and it seemed like the starter wasn't getting enough juice to continue to turn over. Definitely not a battery issue as I checked both batteries. Left it alone overnight and came back this morning and it would turn over if I kept key turned past the stopping point and would crank over roughly. I gassed it and she started but still running very rough. Kept it running long enough to move it to the lift at the marina so they could pull it out and play with it this week while I'm out of town. We'll see...but I doubt it's gonna be cheap

Sinks drain into gray tank if you have it, most don't. Drains overboard otherwise.

rggale - sounds a little like water entering one of the cylinders. Hopefully that is not the issue.

On the 300 SLX, the cockpit sink goes directly overboard. The head sink, however, goes into a gray water box and gets pumped out when the float switch raises enough.
