Ripping up carpet and install Alure flooring in 80s era sundancer 300

Is that bilge paint or gelcoat? Look great just like that. Is that a deck inspection fitting in the aft cabin filler piece?

Yes that is an inspection plate. Where I have brought the floor level up in the aft cabin, I wanted to be able to quickly see if there was ever any water in the cabin, and since that is the lowest part...... I used Interlux bilge coat enamel on the floor. It dries hard and fairly quick. Hey thanx for the comps. Quint, I tend to over do everything I do....Guess its a sickness. LOL

Well finally got a little workable weather here in New England! I got the new larger steps installed, the removable aft cabin floor filler with inspection port installed, and got everything sealed up and ready for the floating floor. Hopefully next week, I want to get the water tank back in before the floor goes in.

Great job Dave wish I could be doing some work today it is 32 snowing and windy but I do have over a week to finish the swim platform and it will be done by then. It's not Like I have a real job to slow me down

I just noticed something in your pictures. You and I have the same boat, same year and we both have the factory generator but my AC controls are mounted up by the speaker in the corner by the electrical panel. Where your controls are for the AC I have a vent there to allow heat or AC air into the main cabin. Weird that they would build 2 identical boats but mount the AC controls in a different spot and add a vent.

Ken

Yea thats weird about the A/C controls. Do you have the big square vent up in the corner where your contols are? Shoot me a pic. if you can, Im interested in seeing yours. The weather is strange here today too. I got the boat opened up to air it out from painting inside, sun was out...nice. I started doing to mix up some resin for a project for a friend....and it started raining again. Close up shop...I give up, I'm out !

Hmmm. two boats the same, but different a/c controls location. Sea-ray, I give up. That light colored carpet looks great, really lightens up the cabin. I like the cushion color as well. bye bye 80s ! LOL

One of your boats probably had a/c added after the original purchase.

Good point Glen. I have the orig. hand written build sheet from the dealer when the orig. owner ordered it. It lists the a/c on that sheet. Kinda cool having this peice of documentation, it lists everything right down to the speakers. This boat was purchased with every available option for 1988, including two seperate sony stereo systems, the raritan ice maker, nutone blender and built in coffee maker. The only option it did not have was the euro lounger seat in the cockpit. Oh, the price paid for the boat back in 88 was $87000.00 with options as ordered.

Mine is also all original but I do have the Euro Lounger option.

Ken

Ken, I'd like to see some pics of that Euro lounger seat, I've often thought about that being a nice modification for exta sleeping space on the aft deck. I have no idea what it looks like so a few pics would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

That eurolounger is pretty cool. Its a big area to lounge on. The downside I can see is, it must be in the way when you open the hatches. I have my hatches up every time I fire the boat up. I like to check the oil, look at belts and hoses and look for any leaks. My dock neighbors are always asking .....whats wrong, do you have a problem? I tell them NO, and by giving everything a quick look over before leaving...I might forsee a potential problem. They dont get it. Most of them never lift a hatch untill something is broke !! And its usually on the weekend, and they don't get to go boating.

Same here Dave, I always do the "sniff" check for gas fumes before starting the engines, even though I have a fume detector, I like to make sure. I know lots of people who never sniff, never run the blowers and just start up. I cringe when I see that and have told a few people they should at least run the blower. A few have thanked me, some have been indiferent and a select few have told me I'm crazy.

You know, now that you mention a fume detector.... I have a brand new fume detector and high water alarm with in dash gauges that I bought for my 268 and never installed. I should install them in this one ! Oh great.....another project for the never ending to do list ! Thanx Chris. LOL

The Euro Lounger is nice but as you have mentioned it takes up a lot of room and it blocks the hatches. Now you can still open the hatch by the generator as I do and have a sniff and you can look around of course if you don't have a generator then you have lots of room in that area. When we go away on our yearly 6-7 week trip I take the seat base out and use plastic boxes under the seat. This allows me to take the hatches off by removing one or two of the boxes. It is a lot nicer than the normal rear seat and I would leave it in all the time if we just went away for weekends every so often. Here are a few pictures.

Boy that is much larger than my little fold up seat. You could take a nice little snoooze on that. Here is a shot of my rear seat for comarison, quite a difference. Thanx for sharing Ken.

Wow, I like that lounger. I may build one of those for the family trips and just take it out when fishing. Thanks for the idea! That is very cool.

That is only 1/2 of it, if you look at the base you see that it is double, the top slides forward drops down and makes into a double bed. Nice to sleep there when it's a real hot at night while anchored out. I don't have the cushion that goes under the top cushion but it would not take much to make it.

Dave I see what you mean about being different in size. Mine you can sit 5 adults on in comport 6 is a little tight.

How's it coming Dancer? Can you do the Risky Business slide in your socks down in the cabin yet?

Not yet. The sun is finally out for a few hours, but going to rain again later, and for the next few days. Have not had a 70 degree day yet. I am all ready, the floor is prepped, I have all of the tools and supplys in the boat, just need warmer temps. What a crappy spring it has been !

You could say that again! Here in Cleveland, we've had 40's and 50's with nothing but rain. I think we've had 1 day over 70, a handful of days in the 60's, and very few dry days. I've had enough of the "April Showers"!

I haven't even cracked the shrinkwrap on my Weekender yet. I did, however, get batteries charged yesterday. I also changed spark plugs, fuel filters, and gear lube in both outboards for the 14' dinghie and 16' Lowe. Those are ready to splash.

Definitely looking forward to seeing the finished product!
