Recent events affecting CSR ??

I've noticed the slow traffic too.
I do check regularly but post little. I'll be posting stuff in March, after digging through the snow, when I start replacing some interior structure before the thaw and boating season.

I stop by daily.....been busy the last week or so. Just put the winter cover on two weeks ago. Some snow blows under the boat port (car port 20ft high) and it protects the gel from sun exposure 5 months a year. It has not been so cold in PA yet....no full days/weeks at freezing temps yet. We had some nice rain a few days ago....glad it's not snow, Mike.

I'm on most days but feel bad posting about 80 degree weather and having fun on the boat. Most people have thier boats winterized or lost them in Sandy.

You want to pour a little bit more salt in the wound?? (Grin)

I got it and responded that same day?....check your inbox again.

Here was my response:

"I believe the pic you saw is of the "free" air filter they sent with the carb. It was a special they had going on. I do not think it was a marine approved air filter. I gave it to a friend.
I just used the spark arrestor that came off my old carb".

Thanks for the info and No I did not get anything my inbox is empty, not sure whats up with that

Simple exlanations to the decline:
1.) It's winter for most of us, hard to get much boat talk motivation.
2.) Boating message boards are dying a slow death, they will not go away, but too many have gone the way
of "social media" outlets , rather than specifically boat talk. Just look how many sites have added forums for "Dockside Chat, Miscellaneous, etc.

With the evergrowing resources available on the internet now, it is easy to get many answers to questions without soliciting an
opinion from a stranger on a message board. True that much of that knowledge out there came from message board interaction
amongst it's members, but it's not like it once was, and likely will never be again.

What other social media forums do you look to for boating information. This is the best one I've found so far.

I think of this forum as a sort of club that I have made many friends from. I don't just come here for boating info, although it is great for that, but also to check on friends projects and make plans to get together. I really like seeing the progress on Alex's a/c upgrade as well as his spreadsheets (Haha) and thank the lord that I will never have to do a project like that!! I don't see it "dying a slow death" but just having natural ebb & flow. It's the holidays, people are busy. It probably will pick up a bit in Feb. as people start to look forward to spring projects or wrap up winter ones.

I bought an industrial sewing machine and am attending a week long school in January. I am making a new bridge enclosure.
I will be documenting my saga and starting a thread soon.....exciting huh?

One winter we all raced around the world in a virtual sailboat race. I think this forum came to a halt for 6 months.

I live vicariously thru you guys regardless of the time of year. My boat is in Naples but my home for now is in Ohio. We get to Naples a few days every 5-6 weeks, not nearly enough. I'd think the Florida section would be chatty with all of the Sea Rays there but honestly it's more interesting at THT or FS...of course I fish offshore. Cruising is great but a cruise is pretty much the same time and again...always enjoyable but you read about one and you've read about them all. Fishing on the other hand....

Several posts have referenced the economy. I'm still angry about the "distribution of wealth" with Obama. He's not my president. A lackey supporting lackey's. I feel bad for those who have lost their jobs.

Fuel cost is ridiculous. I shouldn't afford it. I'm to blame for buying the stuff instead of not buying it and instead demanding more refining and demanding more effort for alternatives and NOT DEMANDING THE BOATING INDUSTRY TO DO BETTER!!!!

All of that said, the vast majority of posting members on this website "seem" to be from seasonal boating climates....which leads to less boating enthusiasm. I think every boating and fishing website with regional sections experiences slowdowns in the seasonal sections.

One other thought. I bought a 175 Sport in 2009 and somehow stumbled on this site. I posted a little but the boat doesn't have much to it so there really wasn't much for me to say/ask. I did read a lot. Then in 2011 I bought the 300DA. I was new to cruiser boating. So I proceeded to run roughshod over the "300 Sundancer Questions" thread as I tried to figure out how things worked and tried to fix things that didn't work. I'm just about through all that now and I suspect my posting will cut way back other than to "chat" or to answer questions of things I've learned.

So my conclusion is there may be a big downswing on people getting into boating for the first time - thus, not a lot of new questions, thoughts. Same old long time boaters that kinda have it figured out may be what's now the norm on these sites.

That's awesome! Another needed skill!

I think some of the CSR slowdown is due to the time of year, but also due to the bottom dropping out of the cruiser market, and the high price of gas.

I did a great 4 day cruise/anchoring with other Sea Ray boats to Capers Island north of Charleston two weeks ago, and I'm headed to the boat tomorrow for another cruise. Friday is forecast to be sunny and 62 degrees and Saturday is forecast to be 67 degrees and sunny in Charleston. I'm on my boat almost every chance I get and after 14 years with an easy single engine and 1.6 mpg average I still love it! No boating blues here!

I am on the site daily, but don't post as much. I own my own business and have a team of people. I feel like I am working harder than ever - plus the boat is winterized. Almost everything that could be discussed has been on the 320. I don't plan to upgrade boats in the near future. Plus there has not been as many new boat purchases on the site. I think it is the maturation of the boating marketing due to the economy and people on this site are not upgrading as often. I owned my first Sea Ray 1.5 years, the second 4.5 years and this one is 6 and I am not looking to upgrade. If I had a bullish outlook on owning a small business (Not a political comment - I think both political parties suck) and my boat felt like it had more value - maybe I would be dreaming of owning a bigger boat. Don't get me wrong I would like a nice mid-40 foot Sea Ray diesel. I just don't think much about it. My boat serves me well and I intend to own it for quite some time.

we need to talk neighbor!

Is there anything you are not afraid to try?

One winter we all raced around the world in a virtual sailboat race. I think this forum came to a halt for 6 months.

That was fun. Remember the thread here that went along with the race. We even picked up a few new members because they wanted to join our race.

The $4750 quote I got to replace my enclosure put me over the edge.

Let us know how much you spend on equipment and materials and also include how many hours you spend making it. I don't even want you to count the schooling to learn how to do it. The quoted price starts sounding better after that.

I want to obtain the skill and be able to make a little gas money here and there.

I just want to add that I have really enjoyed my short 6 months on the site. I read the threads at lunch break and it is a nice escape from the business world. There are so many great folks on here and I really appreciate all of the help offered. This is much more than a boating technical resource and more of a great boating fraternity of good friends.

I check in most days but I'm real busy at work (working harder...making less) and I'm building a 17' wooden boat in my garage at nite.
