Rear view mirrors on 400 Sedan Bridge

All bridge boat owners have the same problem.....I can only see the port quarter......A camara would work, but this is what I do....

It is all about the feel......I open her up (transom door), I line myself up, before I slowly move myself into her (the dock), I stay as tight as I can (port side of the dock), continue to move in slowly so I dont bang anything (boat) and when I am just about to be in all the way (stern to dock)...........I pull out quick (quick thrust forward with my throttle for 1/2 a second).......Then I am done and I turn her off (boat).........You guys are so gross!!

Sound like one of Tiger's text msg.....

It is also a good idea to wash the salts off (the boat) and clean up (the boat) before zipping up (leaving the boat)

OK.. now that was funny.

It depends on the boat. The 480DB doesn't have anything behind the captain's seats and I can see my cockpit and backend of the boat just fine from the helm.

I can see people throwing up over the edge from the comfort of my helm chair:

The newer 50/52DB version of this hull, Sea Ray added a seat behind the helm and extended the bridge so I assume they killed the view of the cockpit area. You can see here how my 480DB helm chairs are against the back:

Some of the bridge boats put the helm in the forward area of the bridge... but not all...

She sure is purty Gary!

Gary, your assumption about the 500/52DB is correct: the bridge extension compromises rearward visibility.

I was with 15 people on cruise on a 52. Oddly enough, no-one found the urge to sit behind the helm and stare at the captain's butt...

I understand the original intent of this thread, and I agree with the premise.. but damn if it is not still hilarious at the same time.

So some of you just need to make sure you read the thread in the same vein. :smt043:smt043:smt043

Different boats dock differently so maybe if one wants rear view mirrors? ... The last thing I was aware of is? It is your boat? Do what you wish with it.

Different strokes for different folks! (I couldn't resist) :smt043:smt043

Boy, Ridley, if you didn't get a "Welcome Aboard" back in July, you certainly did today! :smt001

I like the camera idea. Obviously, it will depend on your specific chartplotter - if it has the inputs. But, many do.

What if you mounted it up on your arch? I'm only looking at pics on SR's site, but that seems like it would give an awful good view. It's plenty high, and would likely give a good bird's eye view of both sides of your boat. Using a small Ram-Mount might not be a bad idea - it'll give you added flexibility for aiming it.

Cameras for this purpose are readily available - and not too expensive, either. I installed one on my truck and absolutely love it. As I'm driving, I'll send the feed to extra monitors I installed for the kids - they get a kick out of watching vehicles behind us.

Thanks to all for your great mirror and other ideas. I already have the mudflaps and curb feelers. Regarding the mirrors, I'm going to go hide in the woods now. I simply didn't realize that 10 mirrors on the flybridge was overkill. I'll cut back to 6. I'll bet a nickel that no one has a nice, big hammock hung on the foredeck like I do. I have a big blue tarp from Walmart hung over it and 2 lovely plastic palm trees being held up with duct tape on either side of it. Is this cool or what...

Nice bunch of fellows we have here on CSR. Although I personally couldn't see any benefit from mirrors. I have the seat behind the Captain seats on my bridge but I have never had a problem seeing to dock. Hell your 10 feet above the water.

Jack

You just might fit in here....

And you are too late on the palm trees. Another member already has them:

That's the way that humor and boating are supposed to mix....all work and no play is boring.....

And kudos to Ridley for being a good sport about it...

Now...about that polytarp hammock...

If you look real close at Brady's knee, you'll see that I am not so much a brady fan, but I do like the crush.

It didn't take much thinking to understand you are not a Brady fan. I don't figure there are many in your area. :smt009
