Question for Boaters around Barnegat Bay

Found it on Bingmaps. What river is that on? It's cut off on the chart, even on the Great Egg Harbor River chart inset on 12316. Middle River, Tuckahoe River? They've got a website with lattitude and longitude, but no mention of the body of water it's on. Good grief, you'd have to be Magellan to find this place.

Looks to me like Oyster Creek... See this chart:

Hi All! Looking forward to our first season with our Sea Ray!
We would like to meet some people in the Barnegat Bay area.
Those with young kids would be a great as we have a 2 year old.
Our boat is out of Forked River.

Joe,

I had a '95 175 as out first Sea Ray... It was a great boat. We went everywhere it. We even went to AC and back from TR... In the Barnegat Bay you have to be very careful with the wakes in a 175... We once took a wave over the bow next to the Seaside Bridge. My sister was sitting in the front with her baby. The wake covered her and the baby... Just pick your days when you go out... The best place to go from Forked River, I think, would be Tice’s Shoal. You can get in real close with a small boat... I will post a notice when our group is rafting up at the “secret spot” for all who may want to go through the initiation and join "Ron's Gang"....

Rod, that doesn't look quite right, esp if you go by the GPS coordinates from their website. Also, if you follow Maritime Matt's directions, it doesn't add up. I don't see any Motts Creek on the chart and Oyster Creek appears to be only charted creek that could support life down that way.

continue on the ICW into Great Bay towards AC. When you get to 139 marker head North. Run a few hundred yards off the marshes on the West side and look for Mott's Creek on the Chart.

Heading north from 139 takes you into the middle of Great Bay. South of 139 I see Main Marsh Creek, Broad Creek and Oyster Creek.

Here's the GPS coordinate map from the website. It appears that Motts Creek may be the south point of dashed purple line 1, where the Flashing Red "2" marker is found...

Ron,

We should plan a "club sea ray" land trip to this place... It looks like it could be a cool place, and maybe water destination on an inside trip to AC...

Hey Joe,

Welcome to the board. We have great memories with our 175BR. My daughter grew up on it. We're north of you, but visit Forked River several times during the season. I guess, the easiest place to hook up is Tices. Let us know when you're up in north.

Sorry, been real busy. Mott's Creek runs almost parallel with Oyster Creek. There on the western most side of Great Bay. Not Great Egg Harbor Bay. Thats way further south.
Coming from North, run the Intercoastal to the 139 marker. That will be on the South side of Great Bay, or the Brigantine side. At that point you can turn North and you would be heading towards the Mullica River thats a little ways further North, which by the way is deep water and protected and has some nice overnight anchoring spots, and stay a couple of hundred yards off the marshes on the West side of Great Bay. Look along the shore line real good and you'll see the day markers or sticks showing the channel into the creeks.
I take my boat to work on occasion through Round-a-Bout Creek, Mystic Island, to Nacote creek Marina which runs off the Mullica.

Hey Matt
The problem seems to be that Motts Creek is uncharted (like Gilligan's Island) and every road map I can find doesn't label all the creeks down there. I think I know what you're talking about now. Sounds like a challenge trying to find it from the water side, esp. for the first time.

OK, scratch that last transmission. Mott Creek is charted on the Mullica River inset on 12316. The creek is just south of the mouth of the Mullica River. Never been down that way in my life. I'll go on Rod's boat. He'll find all the good places to run aground.

Actually, by Jersey Shore standards, that's all deep water in there - nothing skinnier than 4-5ft.

Hmmm...if an island is uncharted, does it really exist..........do the Walton's spend too much time saying goodnight?????

I should be getting one of my smaller skiffs in the water, perfect for a lunch visit to Mott's. It's gonna be a while before the S/R goes in.
I'm located in Nacote Creek Marina on the Nacote Creek which is a deep, Yes I said deep water creek, which runs off the Mullica. Stop in the marina and say Hi. Just look for the Task Marine trucks and my little office. 609-812-5195. I love to talk about boats. Its addicting.

Does your marine have transient slips? Do you have any pics? Looks like you are close to Smithville... Might be a nice stop on the way to AC...

Interesting how the deepest part of Barnegat Bay is by far the Mullica River. In reading the Waterway Guide I see that they build Viking Yachts in New Gretna, which is located up the river. Depths range from 11-35'. The Guide doesn't list Mike's marina but there are 6 others listed, all of which have transient slips.

I stayed a weekend in the marina on route 9 next to Viking Yachts... It felt like being in south, and I don't mean south Jersey... We liked High Bar Harbor better on LBI... I would not mind a Barnegat Bay Boaters ... "Escape to High Bar Harbor":smt038... summer 2010... We can all bring our bikes and have a race to Kelly's ice cream shop by the lighthouse...
