Post Your Top Speed

51 mph using gps. Surprisingly the speedo reads +/- 1 to 1 1/2 mph of the gps at all speeds over about 15 mph.

Where you folks getting GPH from?

It's available on Smartcraft or if you interface your chartplotter to Smartcraft you get something like this.

55.3 gps a couple of times with me and the wife. full capacity still runs 48mph and thats with 8 people!

Gallons per hour:

Gallons put in to fill the tank / hours added to boat since last fill up.

Admittedly, I've had a few and a cigar after hanging at the marina screwing off but am I looking at the DEVIL in the pic??? was I supposed to see Merphastofolise (sp) or Beelsobop?? if not, I'm setting down the beer, and getting a better computer (actually looking at the Imac 24 tricked out.......)

55.3 gps (gallons per second?). What is that thing, an F-22?

What engine/drive combo do you have on your 185? I had an '04 200 Sport with the 4.3L on it and was only able to get about 49 out of it. But, it didn't matter how many people/stuff was in the boat. If anything we'd lose 1 mph.

60 mph in my 2000 280 SS. The sun sport is like a sundancer but with a smaller cabin. So we get a lot of speed and the deck space of a 32 but the cabin only sleeps 2...trade off. We still have the head, etc.

My buddy hits 62 mph in the same boat and we both have twin 5.7's with 600 hp total. I do not do this often though. For a 28 foot boat with a 9.6 beam I think we're doing ok. However....there is no need to go that fast in a boat...unless your wife expects you home in 10 minutes and your still anchored with a beer. It's good to know you can get there if you have too.

48 mph w/ GPS with only me and barley any gas or equipment in the boat (just a cooler of beer).

Spring is here and everyone is getting excited again about boating (at least here in the North). What is the fastest speed you have recorded in your boat? How did you measure it (GPS or speedo.)?

49.7 mph (gps) yesterday in 1-2' waves, into a 15 mph headwind with just me in the boat, and minimal extras. I'll try it again when it's calm and no wind and update this. Air temp 62, water temp 51.

The real test of a hull is not how fast it will go in good conditions, but how fast and how comfortable it goes in snotty conditions. We go 41mph in ideal conditions (1-2 foot chop, full fuel, water, waste, 2 people and 300 pounds of gear) but no one runs that way. We run 21 knots in 1-3 foot chop head seas and are comfortable. 23 knots in a 2-4 foot following sea. 18-20 knots in quartering head seas that are 2-4. 18 knots in real crap on Lake Michigan. At each of these speeds nothing opens down below or pounds. Windshield wipers are needed only in head and quartering head seas and don't run much.

UPDATE - 45 MPH in 1-2 foot waves feeling quite comfortable thanks to my new smart tabs !WOW!

51mph on GPS in my old ass SRV 190 with strock prop. It was at 4550rpm, has a 188hp 302 with a set of flowed 351 heads. It is pretty darn fast for a 190!

I know someone here in North Texas with a 280SS with t350 Mags' as well. He also does 60 MPH on GPS on a good day. Amazing for a boat that big.

I thought I'd already replied in this thread, then noticed this was a new one.

I haven't pulled a GPS out in 2-3 years I'd guess. Last year was a near bust for boating in this part of the world anyway. We cruise easy 99% of the time.

The 65 MPH Speedo buries at somewhere around 60 MPH and I haven't been in conditions or load that it won't do that in. It's like a tank. Actual best top speed by GPS is around 65-66.

And maybe this year I'll get the props right. Finally got it on a propshaft dyno and confirmed I'm giving up 200-300 RPM. But I messed up a brand new rear prop last year and haven't worried about it. I doesn't bite like it did but it works great for 99.9% of our boating. And the best part is the cruise speed anyway; especailly with fuel cost this year!!! :smt021 :smt043
